Queensland Reds 2026

Red Runner

Alfred Walker (16)
So do we know how our squad is looking?

I think we have three hookers signed and I assume Blake will just be back up.

Plenty of props there I guess with Sef back and King promoted? Assume Hodgman is gone

Locks seem way short with only LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) and Canham? I hope Vest is replaced but I guess we need a body to do it. Uru might end up back up lock considering our depth at backrow remains. Just no word on Liam Wright?

Scrumhalf is fine and Werchon looks good over in Italy. Maybe Martens is covering Tate for depth but maybe doesn't get a full contract yet?

Carter basically comes in for Mason but HMP isn't announced yet? Adds to the rumours I guess.

Flook, Hunter and Dre (and maybe Daugunu) are the centres but I'd assume Frankie G will be there. Not sure on Henry.

Back three is light with only Lipo (counting twice!) Jock and Ryan signed from what I can see. I'd expect ANderson to be there. I assume MUrray because we need more fullback cover? Or does Will McCulluch offer that?

And then a whole bunch of teens - Uys, Ross, Armistead, Slater, Taka, Pritchard, Conway, McKay. Of those perhaps Conway and Pritchard get a run next year, v Saitama or something? Maybe Mackay>?

Anyway, still gaps. When are the two Saitama games? That may help. If Vest and Henry are there then I guess they are still around.

Great for the Reds, but a 3 year deal makes things tricky for Lynagh (if he can get his head right)
Brilliant for the Reds and good for Tom, competition will only make him a better player. He needs improvement and hopefully they can get have a healthy competition. Surely injuries will play a large part too.

I read that Werchon had a really strong game on the weekend beating one of the Saffa teams no less. Might be difficult to keep all three now that he has a taste of being the #1 at a professional club.

That is great news for all of Rugby in general (a player returning to ranks) and especially Reds AND RA, more options for Wallabies and Reds is alaways good news.

I reckon the only way we hang onto HMP is try and loan him to Benneton next year like we've done with the other boys. I would suggest Lynagh to play with his brother but he'll be on Wallaby duty no doubt.

Returning with the prison tats to prove he spent time in jail (rugby)

It will be down the line, but he's signed on for 2026, and stands to get good game time this year with Tate's injury. We probably will lose him after that with Kalani signed to 2027, but that's far from the end of the world with Martens coming through. There's also the possibility he pushes ahead of Kalani next year, in which case we might be able to keep him and end up losing Kalani a year later. Not a bad spot to be in, earlier this year I thought we were certain to lose one of Werchon or Thomas for 2026.

Those tats are the trendy cafe vibe. Rolls up a beanie a bit and wears flared chinos that show the ankle.

I tend to think a 3 year deal will have someone like Lynagh at least exploring his options after 2026. A Wallaby starting 10 whilst wanting to win the job also won't won't to sit on a bench. Signing CG for three years will tell him something. I also don't see CG as a genuine option at 12 regardless of his frame. He's a Flyhalf

The tattoos smell more of BurnCity than NRL

Loosehead for the Reds is interesting. Hookers are set, and tighthead has Zane, Massimo, Jeffrey. Loosehead has Aidan, Sef, and George? JTA (Jeffery Toomaga-Allen) played loosehead for a large period of 2025, so is George Blake kind of the 4th option at both loosehead and hooker? Its a shame because he has looked good in the little chance he has had. For example, the Force only have young Marley Pearce and a half-fit Harry Hoopert.

Outside of Sydney, Tom will have similar issues to overcome at the Force and Brumbies.

Given how much Tom has been injured and same with Carter, I would dare say there will be a lot of game time both are getting next year at the Reds.

Carter coming back on a three-year deal is good news for the Reds right now.

Need to navigate risks/deficiencies in all our contracted 10s over the next 12 months so we don't end up putting all our eggs in the wrong basket.

Lynagh - head knocks clearly a concern and he still isn't grabbing the starting job at the Reds/Wallabies with both hands
Gordon - spinal issues but hopefully have been resolved and is still a bit of an unknown after being away/injured
HMP - holds the least power in this situation, most likely to leave ASAP, still hasn't proven himself as Super Rugby level first option

Exploring options is all over the world... WC probably keeps eyes domestically at first but pros want starting money. Not sure the Reds would also want two 10s on starting salaries.

I reckon he gets first dibs on it next season. CG has played bugger all footy recently even though fit now. If his back was an issue the Titans wouldn't have shoved him out there.

Reds have updated next year's squad online and removed a few of those confirmed departures(Blyth, Smith etc) but still a few players and re-signings that are unclear. All of these below were reportedly off-contract at the end of 2025 but are still listed on the Reds website:

Max Craig
Will McCulloch
Lachlan Anderson
Isaac Henry
Frankie Goldsbrough
Harry McLaughlin-Phillips
Liam Wright
Connor Vest
Sef Fa'agase
Alex Hodgman
Trevor King

Noting we don't have an update on the severity of Jock Campbell's injury, Carter might find himself returning to rugby at fullback, especially noting what Les Kiss had to say about him:

"Carter is a quality player who no doubt deepens our playing options in the key positions of flyhalf, fullback and inside centre"
