Queensland Reds 2025

How is vuni going over in France?
Only played 2 games, both last year. Can't see any mention of injury. Maybe Ronan O'Gara is a more demanding selector or has a bigger squad. They have Jack Nowell (England), Teddy Thomas and Dylan Ledds to choose from as well and they all seem to be racking up plenty of games.

Hearing aw well as Blyths likely move south, that Gibbon (knee) and Hodgeman (neck) might be medically retired soon too
Not super surprising for Gibbon given he hasn't been sighted this year, but still sad for them both. Terrible way to end a career.

We are at least still pretty well covered at loosehead with Ross coming in. Might still need a bit more cover but no one too expensive. Should hopefully make it a bit easier to lock down Toomaga-Allen and Fa'agase for another couple of years while King and then Uys come through too.

Wales look set to cut a side for next year, which may mean we have another chance to hang onto Ryan Smith. Even if it's not Osprey's that's cut there's probably a pretty good chance they'll be looking to get out of contracts with foreign players to find room for the displaced Welsh ones.

The Ghost of Raelene

He didn't seem in too much distress at the time which is a good thing if worried about shoulders and things that end up 4-6 month recoveries. Took him off quickly though so you'd think the trainer recognised a fracture to the arm or wrist. 4-6 weeks would be the absolute minimum especially at Prop where those parts are put under some pretty extreme force constantly.

So, correct me if I’m wrong but we now have Gibbon & Hodgman out on potentially career ending injuries, plus Blake & De Lutiis out for the rest of Super as well as Faessler.

Our next squad prop would be Trevor King, wouldn’t it. Great young prospect but can’t say I could see him as being an option at Super level yet. What other options are there though? And do you have a choice to bring someone else in if you have a fit prop in your squad?

That would be a baptism of fire for King!

Reds with some horrendous injury luck. There is a very real chance of Hodgman, Gibbon and Wright all joining Gordon in medical retirement. Hope we're over-speculating, particularly with Wright.

To be fair, Nasser did shift from prop to hooker but I feel like he's dropped a fair bit of prop weight from his frame over the last few years.

Someone like George Francis is a good shout to be a backfill option to finish the season and he's been selected in SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) pre-season squads before. Although I heard he was already signed overseas and would be leaving Brisbane in the not-too-distant future, so he might be out.

I really struggle to see him playing a major role into the future. There is a lot of good will towards the guy but the Reds team is moving on without him and has done for a few years. Potentially there is opportunity for him overseas if he manages to get his body right - but a medical retirement into a coaching apprenticeship (which he has expressed interest in pursuing post career) might be the best outcome for everyone

Doran is reporting we should get Lynagh and Wilson back this week with Flook back for Fiji.

De Lutis dislocated his wrist so he's gone.

Nothing about Wright or anyone else.
