Queensland Reds 2025

A pairing of Vest and Uru scares me. Would be close to the shortest locking combination in Super Rugby.

If we lose Blyth, we need to be bringing in another as one injury to Lukhan or Canham sets us back considering.

Disappointing if we can't retain Blyth, absolutely criminal that the Tahs get more lifelines. I sure as hell don't remember RA coming to our aid during the dark years of 06 - 2009 or 2016+.
Hardly a lifeline when Blyth was barely getting a start. Tahs have spots available as they are losing both Sinclair and Felix Kalapau... not to mention Gleeson and Leota. Wouldn't be surprised to see Angelo Smith there next year as I think he's playing in the Hospital cup atm. He's a quality Super Rugby standard lock.

Didn't realise Smith was kicking around in QLD. He's the perfect 4th lock for the Reds.

Reports last year was RA would be sharing the costs of LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Canham and Daugunu and other Rebels players. 2026 will be an upgrade on 2024 for the Reds. I don't think it's something to get too worked up about.

LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) in particular - his contract wit hthe Rebels, which the Reds picked up, didn't include any RA top-up, and now it does (surely....)

No idea what his contract situation is but I've said it before and I'll say it again, we should be moving heaven and earth to get Hockings back, especially considering we now only have two out and out locks in the squad.
Hockings would be nice to have but I don't think he'd be an efficient use of our resources with Salakaia-Loto and Canham already on the books. It'd have to be RA sponsored to happen, but even then I think it'd leave us very top heavy in the locks and would hurt our ability to retain the rest of our tight 5 talent coming through.

Nothing to support this honestly. He's playing well in Japan but hardly winning player or forward of the year over there. Ships sailed.

RA will have zero cash left for top ups to bring blokes home anyway, especially after keeping Tom Wright which has recently been announced.

The Reds have got their fair share of RA sponsored players already, I can't see anyone else joining the 2026 squad who would be considered a big or shocking signing.

Financially I thought that RA bailed the Refs out at least twice in that time.

I also thought the tipped in to help secure the likes of Hunt & Vunivalu. And retaining Cooper at one point in there. Unfortunately the first two didn’t really work out.

Really disappointing to lose Blyth but on the plus side for him the timing of the announcement if it does proceed should be in enough time for sentiment towards his Wallaby prospects on here to swing around :)

What a generous god RA is!

On paper both Hunt and Vuni looked like proper good signings in my opinion. I don't think anyone can doubt their athletic ability and success they had prior to coming to the Reds. It's just a shame it didn't work out.

I don't actually mind that the Reds and RA dropped that cash bomb on Vuni the first around, what bothered me more was re-signing him (on likely less money of course) when he didn't warrant it.

Oh yeah. I was extremely happy when they signed both of them.

I still remember the day I read Hunt had been done for drugs and the disappointment - although to be fair to him the fact that I was bunkering down waiting for cyclone Marcia to hit probably makes the whole thing stick out in my mind.
