Queensland Reds 2024

I’m leaning towards

10 Lynagh
11 Petaia
12 Paisami
13 Flook
14 Vunivalu
15 Campbell

with O’Connor and Lawson off the bench.
I’d like to think Grealy is next in line because he was excellent for us late last year and is showing real development.

the faith in Lynagh being the starter is odd. Do you have any mail re: preseason form?

he hasn’t done anything relevant in almost 12 months.

I hope nepotism isn’t at play here simply because of his last name - HMP has the runs on the board when it comes to the younger of the 2 prospects showcasing their skills in actual games.

He's a good young player. Has he benefitted from his surname? Yes. But, he has done nothing yet to say he is out of place in the arena and being kept on because of it.

HMP is a very good young player and has shown it. Don't think anyone has forgotten about him. His minutes at last years JWC were top notch. For me I think a guy like Grealy ends up under immense pressure in that utility type role.

What, you think Reg might be undergoing nepotism on the back of his proposed Trial back line? Or that Reg was secretly providing a back line from Les but without mentioning it? Lynagh has been set up from start at the Reds to build for the role. Creighton showed less than we would want in trial #1, but I'm hoping we're not done with him yet.

I would think that Creighton will be given another trial half and given time. HMP got a chance last week and really ran with it. I'd like to see Lynagh in the next trial if he is fit.

How they role into the season will be seen. Nepotism seems a pretty early call.

PS I don't at all disagree that HMP put some runs on the board last week.

I know who Reg is fellas…

I’m talking about nepotism at the reds. I hope HMP is getting a fair shake of the sauce bottle here because he doesn’t have a father who’s a iconic Queenslander

HMP along with David Vaihu were the 2 standout backs for me at last years u20 tournament.

Tom Lynagh should have been at that tournament as well but he got a token nomination onto Eddie preliminary RWC squad and never heard his name spoken again in 2023

Sorry my apologies everyone. reg was positing next weeks trial match prediction.

which makes sense. I thought he was having a crack at starting lineup for start of season.

nepotism allegations can wait another week.

In comparisons to Creighton and HMP's performances last weekend, I think a few aren't factoring in the first 20 minutes of an abhorrent attacking breakdown from the reds. Really slow and messy ball stopped the majority of go forward and meant Creighton had to kick on the back foot. I thought we had a lot more structure and ball movement in attack and when the chance came to execute we were stalled by the quality and speed of ball.

When HMP came on the breakdown had been addressed and the reds were on the front foot in attack. He was much more damaging with ball in hand because of how quick we were able to play. Striping the force with speed instead of structure. I think this is how we've put most of our points on the board over the last few years.

I was genuinely impressed with how the Red's seemed to display they have the ability to shift their style of play and am very intrigued as to whether we end up with a Creighton (Irish like style) or HMP (All Blacks like style) under Kiss.

no. I was suggesting our best backline for the first comp game. I think Lynagh’s games at the end of last year were terrific. I’m picking him on the basis of that really.

Creighton was my original pick but I thought he was really poor on the weekend. Of course Lynagh could come out this weekend and have a shocker but I’ll wait until that happens to reselect.

I think HMP is fantastic. But I’m not picking him to start Super Rugby at 10 just yet.

That would be their best backline Reg I agree

If he is still practising his goal kicking then he should start. I think taking 3 at every opportunity will be vital to our success.

I think he won us a game with his boot last season with 100% success if memory serves me correctly.

Big step for HMP to go straight into Reds, would expect Creighton to start as the experienced campaigner (steady but not flashy and unlikely to break a game open) with Lynagh on the bench. There will be injuries in the first few weeks and HMP will get his shot but needs more big boy games under his belt before he gets the keys. As Reg said Lynagh has earned his shot first, was very good at the end.

This is looking more and more likely Reg;

And now, Paisami’s revelation that inside centre was set to be his home in 2024 appears to have thrown O’Connor into a four-way contest for the coveted No.10 jumper.

“It’s my first-ever preseason of training at 12 full-time ... it’s pretty good to actually train at one spot,” Paisami said.
So Lawson to cover 10, JOC (James O'Connor) to cover 12, 13 and 15 with another outside back?
