Queensland Reds 2024

Lots of media out of the Reds this week.

Les Kiss on 4BC:

Zane Hilton interview:

Jordan Petaia:

and Peni Ravai over at rugby.com.au:

Really great to hear from Les Kiss in particular. I'm still a bit worried about how he's going to get our discipline right, but I've been impressed by him every time I've heard from him. Hopefully he can keep that going when they take the field.
Thanks for sharing the 4BC interview.

50 minute deep-dive interview with Zane Hilton here:

Great to hear more from the broader coaching team. Particularly impressed by the way Zane talks about including the players in the process and empowering them to make decisions and drive the strategy. Sounds like a real student of the game, great to be bringing some of that rugby IP back to QLD.

I might have missed it previously, or just forgotten but Alex Hodgman is Aussie eligible

Yeah, stand down period served as of November last year. That said, I think he also qualifies for Samoa (via his mother) and possibly Fiji.

Not the first time Petaia and the NRL have been mentioned, a lot harder for a center to transition then a wing, but i think Petaia and Kotoni Staggs (who i'm a big fan of) play a similar style and have similar attributes.

The Reds media department is doing great work on YouTube right now. Tha interviews are fantastic.

Geez Alex comes across well. Brilliant that he ended up with us. Looking forward to seeing what he brings, unlike many I really like the scrum. physical in the ruck works well too.

Bloody hell watching the content Jeff puts out along with these interviews, the recruitment team needs a back pat on the back.

Perfect role models for the young front rowers we have.

The last time we recruited a pair of kiwi props it worked out horribly for us, everything coming out from them has been gold.

Dunno what level of BS, truth, or contract negotiation lever should be attached to this rumour, but flagging it with the QLD brain's trust for views.
Hmmm Intresting. Probably a Center in League although he could be a good finisher on the Wing. He’s been better injury wise but I think he’d be really risking the body doing it.

Has he played much as a junior? Limits the FB option with how much responsibility they have in a league team.

The Petaia NRL rumour is pretty predictable.

Probably some truth to it, but also trying to secure some negotiating leverage under the new coach. You’d imagine he’s definitely not the first choice 13 anymore (Flook) and he hasn’t exactly blown our socks off as a fullback. Very talented but also just as likely to get injured or push a dumb pass.

May as well float the NRL card early on and see what happens.

I liked him at 15 more than Campbell last year tbh...

The Reds really do have a glut of versatile backs, so it'll be really interesting to see how Kiss & Co. piece it together. Don't think it's been done for a while so, for the sake of it, this is how I'm sitting after a couple of Friday beers:
9. McDermott
10. Lynagh/Creighton (can't split them at this stage)
11. Vunivalu
12. JOC (James O'Connor)
13. Flook (although Paisami will likely get first dibs)
14. Campbell/Grealy
15. Petaia
