Queensland Reds 2024

Sir Charles

Fred Wood (13)
Who knows - what I can say is TH Props are hard to come by, 21yr TH Props that can hold their own at scrum time are even harder to find.

Obviously the Rebs are stacked for Tightheads this coming season (Tupou, Pone, Talakai and Eloff who can swap if needed) but it's interesting that he seems to have been unceremoniously let go without another contract from anywhere.
I would have Eloff as my number one option for recruiting, and have held this opinion for a couple of years.

I would love him in Red before he wears Gold, which will happen as soon as he is eligible.

Any idea when Eloff will be eligible for the Wallabies? Having him come off the bench for Bell will be a brutal 1-2 punch.

Assuming everyone is fit, we actually have a pretty strong side coming into 2024.

1. Hodgman
2. Faessler
3. Nonggorr
4. Smith
5. Blyth
6. Wright (cc)
7. McReight
8. Wilson
9. McDermott (cc)
10. Lynagh/Creighton
11. Petaia
12. O'Connor
13. Paisami/Flook
14. Vunivalu
15. Campbell
16. Nasser/Asiata
17. Ravai
18. Toomaga-Allen
19. Daly
20. Uru
21. Thomas
22. Creighton/Lynagh
23. Flook/Paisami

Obviously injuries will happen, but I'm pretty happy with our current depth with guys like Asiata, Fa'agase, Vest, Anderson, Creighton, Grealy, Annan etc as backup to what is most likely out best XV. Early days but excited to see how we go with the new coaching staff and a few experienced guys being brought in, plus the younger guys having been around for a few seasons by now.

Yeah, when you consider our big losses in terms of departures are Tupou, Hoopert, Jones and Daugunu we aren't losing a lot year on year. Daugunu was the only one of those guys to play any minutes last year and while he finished the season strongly he wasn't exactly consistent throughout. Bringing in two international props to strengthen the scrum and the number of young guys we have who should be better for another year sets us up really well to improve on last year.

That said I do think there will be an adjustment period with a whole new coaching setup, and I'm a little worried about discipline given both our and Les Kiss' history there.

Really glad we’ve stuck with Mac. I see his game really maturing. He’s one that has benefitted from a lot of club rugby game time. It would have been easy to cut him considering he’s been there for a few years now.

really excited to see how some of these players respond to a new coach. I’ve been hearing some really positive reports on Kiss.

Honestly I think we're a bit lucky to have held onto him - he's got heaps of talent, should be getting interest from around Australia and could probably make plenty in Japan. I expect that's the one year deal from his part, he's still very young but he'll be keen to be getting regular game time at this level now to move his career forward.

This is the most excited I've been about an HC since Link. Great to hear about those reports. I couldn't have greater anticipation to watch where Les takes this crew. Not exactly "preseason premiers" more a thirst to see how it goes and to glue myself to the journey.

i had heard he was a done deal at the Force. Maybe a new coach swayed him.
