Queensland Reds 2024

Don't virtually all the Super Rugby franchises bar the Brumbies?

Tahs running primarily with guys like Holloway and Hanigan and only having got in the raw lump of Amotasero, Rebels losing two genuine locks in Phillip and Hosea for the comparatively light LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Force continuing to run with a chaotic mix of Journeymen and Rodda.

They are so highly valued elsewhere.

Skelton, Simmons, Douglas, Arnold, Arnold, Philip, Hosea, Hockings, Stohlberg - all would add huge value to Aus teams.

Adam Coleman, Tom Staniforth, Lopeti Timani, Steve Mafi, Steve Cummins, man mountain Manny Meafou who'd likely be in the Les Bleus if we still had the 3 year rule instead of the 5 year one: all running around the URC or Top14 as well, even if some of them are playing with different National Jerseys.

Yes I was avoiding the no-longer aus eligibles.

It's a big list and it's where our Super Rugby teams struggle

Queensland Rugby Challenger Series Law Innovations

Time compliance
  • Use of a shot clock on set plays (goal kick, penalty goal, scrum, line out)
  • Additional referee required to manage initiating timer
  • Use of a hooter applied when team exceeds time limit
  • Addition of a 45-second restart following goal kick
  • Free kick for non-compliance at point of restart.
Ruck
  • Greater focus on effort to roll easts or wests
  • Players can be sanctioned for intentionally preventing players from rolling
  • No players can join attacking ruck one referee calls ‘use it’
  • Free kick for non-compliance
Lineout
  • Teams cannot add numbers to a maul established from a lineout
Advantage Law
  • Advantage over is adjudicated following four phases of play, significant line-break or executed kick with positive outcome
Mark
  • A mark can be taken anywhere inside a team’s own half
  • Knockdown
  • No intentional knock down
Referee Dissent
  • 20m advancement of penalty mark
  • Dissent inside attack 22m allows for penalty option in front of posts
  • Reoccurring dissents results in a yellow card

Great set of variations and some interesting names in those teams. I'm a bit surprised Zander is being used given he's not being given a contract, I don't mind too much but would've preferred Harry Lloyd had a run. Great to see Toomaga-Allen coming in early (and playing for Norths), George Francis getting a look in and the return of Josh Nasser. Will Sankey an interesting one too, I had thought he might have picked up a contract os after leaving the Force, this looks like he'll be in the frame for a spot for next year, given he's in the Reds development squad. Maybe Minimbi as well who must be off contract with the Drua. No Upfield might be a sign he's gone, unless he's injured.

Also love that Wright and Campbell are taking on coaching roles while they rehab injuries.

I hope they call use it before players form a caterpillar ruck and I think taking the kick should be the advantage, not the result of the kick

Hah a mark can be taken anywhere inside your own half will be interesting to see. Guess it's to help stop box kicks?

Nice to see them clamping down on backchat to the Ref. I've always taken pride in our sport not mirroring other codes and crowding the Ref.

Anyone notice in the article along with this state that there is only two challenger games now???

Ted Fahey (11)
Yeah but in the previous article they chucked up this year they said there would be three.
i wouldn't trust what they upload too much. Half the time this year players have their name spelt incorrectly.

I mean even in the team naming post they got Charlie Tupu and Jordy Carriera spelt wrong lol unless there's another Charlie Tupou and Jordan Carera playing lol
