Queensland Reds 2024

The nursery that says “you’re not good enough and took small. Go look somewhere else”.
Just a truly masterful stroke from Wessels. "Oh, i have this super talented young player that's actually from the team's home city? Best get rid of him and cycle through some on or two year import also-rans"

Settle guys

Hunter was also involved in an off-field indiscretions and charged for assault, that would have influenced the contractural situation. As was Pone, however he had just signed a new contract whereas Hunter wasn’t. Most clubs would have done similar including the Reds.

anyway, that’s all in the past he seems a quality human being these days, but I just think it’s a bit disingenuous to ignore that critical aspect when talking about another clubs retention/recruitment.

Putting aside the Nightclub incident, there WAS clearly a RSA influence on Wessels and (to likely a lesser extent) Foote's player recruitment and retention in sticking with 6'2" Meakes, 6'3" Hodge, 6'2" English and 6'4" Magnay as centers and pushing out the 5'10" Tuipulotu and Paisami.

Fair enough. In either case, happy he is at the Reds and retained in Australia for next 2 years, even if not first picked Wallaby the depth is critical

Probably for the season if off to surgery now.

When is Uru back? Bryant has been playing well so I think if we can get Uru back soon we have pretty good back rower coverage.

Anyone see how long Wilson will be out for?

He's posted on socials he's off to surgery so not ideal .....
Guessing he's got a plate.

You'd be thinking he'd be lucky to be back in 6 weeks and I've got no idea if they have to take the plate out before he can play i.e. another 2 weeks on top of the bones healing.

Hopefully Cormac isn't far off returning to allow Uru to go to 8.

QRU Media Release: Harry Wilson Undergoes Surgery

Queensland Reds No.8 Harry Wilson has successfully undergone surgery on the broken right arm he sustained against the Melbourne Rebels last Friday night at Suncorp Stadium.

Wilson had surgery on Saturday and it is estimated the recovery period will be eight weeks.

With back-to-back wins, the Reds will name their side on Wednesday for Saturday afternoon's clash against the Fijian Drua in Suva in Round 13 of Super Rugby Pacific.

Another Reds tour game set to be announced tomorrow....

Not the early next year UK one either.
Still expecting this one today or is it going to be another "make sure you're in your seats early" before the Force game next weekend?

The Queensland Reds women’s and men's teams will travel to Tonga on July 26 to play historic international matches against Tonga's Ikale Tahi national sides at the Teufaiva Sports Stadium.

The matches are part of the ongoing support of Tongan rugby by the Australian Government, Rugby Australia, and the Queensland Reds through the Australia-Pacific Rugby Union Partnership (APRUP). The partnership helps bring our nations closer together through a shared love of rugby union.

The men’s match will be the second international game in a week for the Reds, following the game against Wales at Suncorp Stadium on July 19. It will also be the first time the Reds women have played offshore in a history now spanning 28 years.

The Tonga tour adds to a blockbuster series of post-Super Rugby games against international and elite club opposition, including Japan's Saitama Panasonic Wild Knights in November and the northern hemisphere tour in January 2025 against European sides, including English club Bristol.

The tour will also provide vital match experience for the Tongan sides ahead of the Pacific Nations Cup and Tonga’s qualification for World Rugby’s new WXV women’s rugby tournament.

The tour has the support of the Australian Government's PacificAus Sports program and will include community and high-performance activities in Tonga ahead of the matches. These activities include coaching clinics, women in rugby leadership sessions, and community school visits to enhance inclusive rugby pathways in Tonga and further strengthen Australia and Tonga’s close ties.

This will be the first time Queensland Reds men have played Tonga since 1995 and will be the first-ever match-up for the women.
