Darren Lockyer is retiring so the Broncos will have a shed load of money

What are the chances of Quade heading across after the RWC? No change is scenery, stays near his girlfriend .............

Seems a concern to me

Big concern, I'd rather Barnes be lured back to the Broncos

The NRL defensive style might be better suited with him as he can charge up to the attacking player with 3 other defenders and simply swing his arm out like he does now...

Let him go. He can be replaced. Both JOC (James O'Connor) and Barnsey are playing as well and we will see how Kurtley does this week. Remeber he has Mundine's manager now and I would hate for him to carry on with the drama that other clients have - SBW and Inglis. make him an offer and if its not good enough let him go nice and clean

if he plays the code switch card i hope the ARU smile and dont up his offer, he has already done it once, him and crazy mundine management can cause a storm in a thimble. A couple of years in league might actually make him a better defender since those int he know at qld seem hell bent on not trying to improve it.

Maybe he could fight Money Bill Williams?

Do they have enough money for him?

I think it depends on how we go come rwc. In any case a year or two in league wouldnt be so bad for him. But he would be a great loss to the game if he didnt find his way back.

Realistically, how much per year, could they offer?

Perception of league pay seems wildly over-estimated to me (usually done by talking about a "deal" that totals over 3 years).

Eels couldn't even match the $600k QC (Quade Cooper) was already on at the bottom of the ARU payscale last year

I think it would be a fucking catastrophe if Quade went to league - and I noticed no Reds supporters have posted in here yet. Quade Cooper, the most important player at the QLD Reds and arguably for the Wallabies - one team totally goes down the drain and all game plans out the window and another loses a player who should be playing for another 8 years at least.

The Reds have built everything they do around Quade Cooper, and if he goes, so do the good times. Ditto Wallabies IMO. I hope he stays, I really do.

I've never understood the constant trashing of Mundine and Co. It seems to me like all they've ever done is excel at a a number of challenges while standing up for themselves at the negotiating table. Keep in mind the Mundine to boxing switch and the SBW to Rugby/Boxing switch weren't, despite them getting their proper value, money-based. They had openly-discussed goals that they backed themselves to meet. Why should they do any different for the sake of a bunch of board members in suits? It's their lives. If Quade truly wants to go to League then let him, his life. Australian rugby will be undeniably poorer for losing him and no one can deny he's doing his absolute best while he's here.

Agreed, and to be honest this 'freed up' money will quickly be absorbed by other players in the team, Broncos have a youthful side of very talented players, most of the money from lockyer's contract will go to them in upgraded contracts.

The real concern is the new NRL team which could start in Brisbane, signing a player like QC (Quade Cooper) on big money is a real option.

Its centred around Mundine, and at least from my experience it seems to be because he would often come out and say he was the greatest thing since sliced bread but never really beat any of the top boxers. It's part of the Australian psyche - don't talk yourself up, its not for you to tell people you're the best - if you show them they will say it for you.

I don't respect the way SBW walked out on his team mid season. But I respect the way he realised that if he wanted to play all blacks he had to train hard and become a world class player, which he did, and now he will reap the benefits he deserves.

Cooper is obviously a very talented attacking flyhalf but he's not the next Stephen Larkham...

The best flyhalves can generally tackle...

I vaguely remember him saying when interviewed that he left in protest of the Bulldogs treatment in taking advantage of some of the younger islander players? (opposed to the media's "Money Bill Williams" alternative, remembering media pretty much run the NRL). When leaving France, IIRC, he also turned down the largest contract offer in Rugby history to pursue an All Blacks cap. I've always found him to be a pretty humble and committed professional.

JO'C is getting plenty of wraps, so it's not like it's the end of the world for us should QC (Quade Cooper) goes to league...

At least JO'C can tackle...

Bear in mind, no one in life is ever indispensible, but we have at times forgotten this...
