One aspect of his game that needs attention was an apparent reluctance to get involved at the breakdown. This was most apparent when Giteau made a break for the line in centre field with Cooper the only player close enough to provide support when Giteau went to ground.

The consensus of the pommy crowd around me was that he was dangerous. Always looked ready to pop an offload (although as mentioned he didn't force it) and his switch of counter-attacks down the blind worked really well.

He also, and I can't believe I'm typing this, made a dominant tackle, and hit a few rucks.

Agree Bruce,

If you had the ball and got tackled, it was pointless to expect QC (Quade Cooper) to get in there and help you out. He sort of just strokes the ruck for a sec, then runs back to 10.

Unfortunately that's a small demonstration of what bugs me about QC (Quade Cooper) - tackling technique is consistently too high and, like Beale, looking to rip the ball. Last night he also shouldered someone who was falling in a tackle early in the game and I thought Nanny Lawrence would ping him for it. Lucky angle.

I remember him doing it in the second half as well.

If it is the occasion that I am thinking of then Giteau had his hands free and QC (Quade Cooper) stopped looking for the offload but it never came. The ball was then turned over.
I agree with what someone else has posted a page or so back that Giteau was thinking to much instead of playing what's in front of him.

I thought Gits was good. Ran the ball twice when he should have passed but was very controlled - kicked well both in general play and the dead ball. Lots of Gits bashing going on but he steadied our backline all match.

I'd also think Gits got well over the advantage line but received no support on one occasion . He also looked up for an offload but noone was there. Moody turned it over as a result but our centres should have been right behind him.

Spook I hope you are joking. Gits was terrible. It may not have been obvious on television but at the ground he was clearly the least effective member of the squad including those on the bench.

Good to see Cooper not get over-awed by the occasion and play his natural game, as well as hold his ground in defense. Having a Reds team mate beside him in defense and another firing passes to him in attack would have helped with his confidence no end. I noticed him getting the job of kicking for touch from near or behind his goal line early on in the game, which he did reasonably well and would have steadied his nerves, and kept the Poms guessing in attack. I think he played a good game by wallabies standards and an excellent game by his standards.

On Gits', in the tri nations he scored (2 or 3 times?) from running, and tried to again from almost the identical spot on the field last night at least twice, and mentioned his preference for running in the press. Johnny and his poms did their homework and knew exactly what he was going to do, so it didn't work. The one time he was at 10 and he passed in two consecutive phases, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) ended up scoring. Mix it up more please Gits and share the load!

To say someone is terrible is pretty strong Cuts. What did he do wrong? Got turned over once. I thought he was solid but not spectacular. Gave us good field position with his kicking. Mixed it up nicely with Cooper. Nice pass and delay to AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) for the try. Superb defensively. Won a turnover at the tackle. Kicked some great penalties/conversions.

Gits chose to run it too often, his decision making was average.

Got turned over twice. Ran at Johnny twice. The first time he should have looked to pass as we were hard on attack and was always going to get shut down. There seemed to be no communication as the backs seemed to be waiting for the ball to come.
Didn't do a lot of kicking most done by QC (Quade Cooper). Did kick some good conversions and penalties but was more effective running wide. A pass mark at best.

I dont think QC (Quade Cooper) isnt willing to get into the rucks, most of the time he isnt very effective but i think thats just a size and strength issue. I did notice just before the genia try tho that he cleared the ruck very well!.. probably only happened once in the game but it happened !

Coooper made 11 tackles and missed 1. That's pretty good.

if that's accurate, that's pretty astonishing

I'll say, and not just the 1 missed, but making 11 tackles is pretty high for a 2nd 5.

Does that include "assisted" tackles, wherein Cooper likes to drag a players jumper down when one of his teammates has hit the ball carrier low.

Exactly. As the vice captain and a senior player he had very little impact on the game. Gits pass to AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) didnt exactly create space did it? AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) ran straight into 2 defenders. What created that try was AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)'s leg drive.

That hardly constitues "terrible" though when you look at his whole performance.
