AJ Gilbert still baffles me. He was a superstar at U19 level out playing Pocock in the final and then he just got his contract torn up and thrown in the trash. What did he do? and is he dominating for souths or what?

Gone to league.

Hynes played a couple of S14 games at 12 as well. In that Jones year. In that fantastic 6-3 loss to the Brumbiezzzzz and against the Blues the following week.

He played well for Souths, but he didnt exactly standout to much, he mostly played at number8 when playing for Souths as well, the bloke always looked overweight although he did have potential, maybe he just didnt have the motivation.

Hear tell that Jake Schatz is playing a full game on Saturday - 6 in first half and 8 in second.

Sounds like some youngsters are getting solid hit-outs and the chance to impress.

Great to see some pressure on incumbants mounting mounting and mounting. The Reds need just that. Players from below putting pressure on those in the team to perform EACH week

Evidently 2 teams each playing a half with an odd few playing full game.

He missed all of last season thru a shoulder recon - I don't know where he will end up, he was great as a schoolboy but surely he is too small for senior stuff up front.

It seems they have signed up Joel Faulkner too early. Didn't impress me in Sydney, nor in the few matches I saw of BSHS this year. Maybe I just saw off days, but hell that is a lot of off days.

That right?? Woo-hoo. I mentioned him on the old schoolboys thread. He was picked for the Oz Schools 1st XV as a no. 8 in 2008 with year still to go at school. Couldn't wait to see him and a NSW guy, 7 Michael Hooper, return in the 2009 tournament, to see if my suspicions that they were both S14 players in the making confirmed.

But both had operations that excluded them from the 2009 Schools tournament and the Schools EOYT. Hooper is in the Brumbies stable as the long term replacement for George Smith and now you have mentioned Butler as having an Academy spot.

What is your source that he has an Academy contract? [With Qld, I assume.]

Tomiki's still listed on the Carcassonne website, has he returned or is he staying in France?

Yep - was given a Reds Scholarship last year and is definitely in Qld Academy - saw him on Sat at Reds training (and kiddies day) and wearing Academy gear - Issue as somebody else posted will be his size and position - may have to end up at 7 - Size also issue with Liam Gill (wish his size matched the size of his heart and agression)

is it a misprint that jono lance is only in the wider training squad and not the academy? because he was definatley in it last year so that would mean he has been demoted?

the Reds have him listed as :

18. Jono Lance (QAS Reds Academy)

tis interesting that Tim Walsh has been preferred to him however.

And he's a damn good size for a prop too, espeically one who just finished school. Be interesting to see how he develops technically, and if he makes the U20 side this year how he goes.

Plenty of flexing going on in that photo!
