QLD Premier Rugby 2025

Lots of axes getting ground during the offseason.

I am always mystified as to why QPR players move around each one only gets one chance to be a one club player which I think is important.

IMHO if you move once its about opportunity twice is being a club slut.
Kudos to one club players but sometimes a square peg doesn’t fit into a round hole.

I think one of the most “loyal” two-club men would be Dave Campbell - Wests & Brothers. One of the most respected players in the QPR during his playing days. Ironically a #9 who went in the opposite direction to Louis Werchon I.e. Dave played for Wests before Brothers.

I think that lots of players move for opportunities and/or potential exposure to the next level. Players also want to win. Playing in a successful program or team means players are often getting the most out of their ability. Becoming a 1 club player doesn't seem to be as important to players these days.

What concerns me is when an established super rugby player (HMP) moves clubs. This is not for opportunity or exposure. That is the real concern for the magpies.

Besides obviously the lower grade guys you see it with some fringe 1st Grade players. They become legends of the joint and it's worth it. A lot of the guys with genuine 1st grade talent hold ambition to get a pro gig somewhere. If it hasn't happened in a couple seasons at one Club they'll try another in hope when the coach gets their ear. Can't really blame them.

It's still nothing but a rumour at this point though... So not a real concern unless it comes to fruition.

So, confirmed, HMP gone to Wests according to the Reds squad announcement.
On the plus side, Lukhan is returning, Vest, Bryant and King all Reds contracted Magpies. So hardly all doom and gloom at the nest. Harry is a big loss though.
Kinda disappointed Kohan Herbert didn't pick up a contract.

I had a sneaky feeling HMP would one day end up at the kennel.

BBC boys generally land at wests or UQ… so perhaps what was at play here is HMP connecting with his mates from school. (Imagine those sunny coast links also at play)

Linking up with Werchon has to be a big plus for him, both from a sunny coast standpoint and as a way for them to both push their case for the Reds selection going forward.

That's true, at least it isn't brothers or jeeps

Surely he would be looking to head overseas now? Would be another loss for Souths.

He's now had pre-season contracts with a couple of Super Rugby teams, but nothing converted.

You'd think on that merit and his strong QPR highlights reel, there would be a number of teams keen on him, definitely the MLR I'd say.

You'd think so, he has a lot to offer to a team.
