Very tough form guide. Compass points are to blame.

Wests have now lost two on the trot.
Easts have now won three on the trot. After losing first 3.
Souths have fallen away.
Norths are just disappointing their fans.

Souths are an interesting one at the moment… 1st Grade have reportedly spent a large portion of the clubs nest egg to be back in the disappointing category & the rest of the club is struggling! There is a top 4 team there, have not played like it lately.

But more of a worry is that Souths depth over the last few seasons has dwindled to be a concern… yesterday their 4th grade got hammered by the bank.
They have an interesting end of round 1 as a full club.

Easts Prem grade shirts with the subtle light blue stripes inside the dark blue stripes might be the best looking ones in the comp.

Hope they gave the designer free tins for the year.

Have heard there is an interesting power dynamic happening at South’s currently with several of the club major sponsors aligning with Morgan specifically, whilst some of the club personnel aren’t exactly happy with the way 1st grade is being run at the moment.

Lots of Souths supporters on this forum who are more plugged in than me so maybe they can confirm or deny.

Whilst the 1st grade has struggled in the last couple of weeks, with two games remaining in the first half of the season, Souths are in the top 4 in 1st grade, top 4 in 2nd grade, just out in 3rd grade(with a game in hand on the team in 3rd place), top spot in 5th grade, second place in 6th grade(with a game in hand), top in Colts 1, top in Colts 2, in the four in Colts 3, in 3rd spot in Colts 4(with a game in hand). I wouldn't be writing off the Club in 2024, just yet.

Indeed, Warhorse.
Those ladder positions hardly suggest that the club is “struggling”.
On the contrary, the depth looks pretty healthy.

Honestly don't enjoy looking at the scorelines and seeing Norths struggle every week. People I know always mention that they respect the guys over there for still showing up for eachother despite the results not being there.
Unfortunately, it appears their 4th grade has just folded

If this is true, it is a sad day for Brisbane club rugby. We need to keep young men in the game. Could Norths switch their lower grades (3rd and 4th) to playing sub-districts (Normanby, Wyatt Cups)??
If they cant get enough numbers to play 3rd and 4th, how can they get numbers to play those divisions.

Also if they did play those grades, wouldn't it be unfair because those grades are usually 6th and 7th grade.

you should see some of the “retired” players running around on Friday night in 6th grade.

Albert Anae (former reds) has played for Souths 6th grade

Jono Kent (former premier grade player for GpS/Wests/Brothers) has played for GPS 6th grade this year

I’m sure there some other high profile guys who have played suburban rugby this year - they are just 2 of the names I’ve seen in Normanby cup this year.

the Friday night comp is for tradies and real estate agents who work Saturdays and the pissheads who are hungover Saturday morning… some good talent kicking around who just don’t want to commit to grades on Saturday.

I've seen many a former prem and rep players playing 6th grade. im not doubting theres some decent players playing 6th grade that could play higher.

But for the majority of players they are legit 6th graders and playing a norths team thats a legitimate 3rd or 4th grade would not be fair.

Yes - Friday night lights is a feast of rugby with some talented hasbeens running around. Norths 3/4 grades over the years are perennial cellar dwellers and dare I suggest that these teams are at a comparable level more than they are currently in the the senior comp. But we'll never know if they are forfeiting already in Round 1. Give them the opportunity to "transfer" to the subbies comp for Round 2 and let's play!

Such a rough look that Brothers is cramming 6 grades into their limited field space while Norths is down to 3 grades on a massive ground. Unsure how you turn things around when you're in a bad spiral like that.
