Qld Premier Rugby 2024

Strongest team Souths could field bar Bryant, you would think they would be favorites for this game - UQ should win the other fairly comfortably.

Be good to see how Ripley goes .is his new colors.

Just watched 2 of the 20 min reply’s of the weekend games on Stan. Watched Souths and GPS. Souths do look really good and I think they are definitely top 4. I then watch the Easts and Brothers game. East will be lucky to win 3 games this year however on the other hand Brothers played a wonderful brand of rugby and they will be hard to beat. Two players Paddy James and Billy Bully were outstandin. can’t wait for Saturdays game Brothers V South.
Billy Bulley is a deadset freak. It’s a shame he is a little injury prone otherwise he would definitely get higher honors.

Brothers team is largely the same as the premiership winning side from last year and based on last weekend results they have lots of depth through the grades.

They’ll be hard to beat, particularly if they get support from the Super Rugby guys again at the back end.
Largely the same??? Definitely not…..

Didn’t think Souths were that impressive last week. But highly rated HMP could be the difference. Brothers still favourite.

LOL took care of their opponent handily against a GPS outfit that toweled your tigers the week before.

think all souths did last week was continue to establish themselves as a genuine top 4 outfit…

If they can win at brothers - that will be a huge scalp

Really? I thought they were very impressive and rolled an always fancied, if somewhat rebuilding GPS. Still a lot of experience down at Yoku Rd.
Magpie Forward pack is on song and a dangerous back 3. The 12 is in beast form to.

What is Kohan Herberts current contract status? Someone told me over the weekend he wasn't in the Rebels extended squad anymore (which sounds right as I think hes been in Brisbane all year) and was being looked at by the Reds.

He's been very very good for Souths this year (and last). Obviously main things going against him for a Reds squad spot are McReight has a mortgage on the 7 jersey and he probably plays a bit too similarly to Wright.

I think he is worthy of a spot. Plays the house down.

unfortunately teams don’t really carry reserve open side flanker specialist. We saw that with McReight suspension and Brad Wilkins hamstring injury.

Teams seem to be content with a versatile backrower option like John Bryant etc.

Herbert was only really in the mix for the rebels because of Zac Hough ACL injury (give me Herbert over Hough though fwiw)

I've been pretty happy with his performances, but from an administration POV it's probably been cheaper for the Rebels to have Nabolakasi as the EPS player and not being required to pay for relocation etc. for Herbert, even if you'd get 15-20% more out of him as an individual.

I feel like it has to be something like that, otherwise I would've thought he would've slotted straight in for the Rebels when Wilkin was injured.

On the Reds side of things I could definitely see him taking Anderson's spot for 2025. I like Anderson but he hasn't really kicked on (partially from injury) and his spot looks the most vulnerable. That said with Bryant coming through from the EPS and Wright the only other backrow off contract I'm not entirely sure there will be room for Herbert even if Anderson isn't re-signed.

Pretty sure hes a new stars player, probably somes up why he is not in the Reds system already.
