Do Sunnybank still have a strong juniors program? During the 2000s their teams regularly featured in the finals across most Division 1 age groups and had a number of players who kicked on to become pros.

As a player there was a genuine sense you were going to drive out there and get beaten up (legally on the field) pretty much from u13s onwards.

I dont think its a money thing as some of these lads were only juniors....SB doesnt seem to have the same culture as it once did back in the day, I remember watching James Sua playing for SB when they won the competition. I do not think I have seen a more dominant player like that since, he was a special human being on his own level.
Yeah he was a gun. Was still running around for easts 4th grade last year and can see he's still got it.

Ollie Ovei was another one i really liked from Sunnybank. Really mobile for a hooker which back in those days wasn't really a thing.

I think that was due to the usual poly boys being bigger than everyone in juniors scenario

What the heck is wrong with Sunnybank? Is it an attitude thing at the club? Do they have cultural issues? You'd think for a heavily cashed up club they'd be doing a hell of a lot better across Colts & Grade. Even their junior numbers are falling away.
Meanwhile Souths go down to 5ths in seniors and 4ths in Colts with probably enough for a 5th team.

I think James Sua still holds the record for most trys scored in a premier rugby season

I’m picking Sunnybank for the win this weekend.

think the “club night” drama for south’s last week might have disrupted preparations this week plus Sunnybank have shown a bit of fight in their contests recently - only to be let down at the back end of games

I'm not originally from Brisbane so am looking for answers I know the demographic of Sunnybank these days is more akin to badminton than rugby but was it always the way? Where do Sunnybank rugby players come from? Do they come from Logan? Where are Sunnybank headed? Are they still a premier club in the next 5-10 years?

I played there during the 90s and 00s, I’d say this was peak Sunnybank and I remember announcements been made during players days about been the largest juniors club in QLD.

It went from a pretty unsuccessful club to one which was competing at the top and winning across the grades, I won half a dozen premierships in my time there. We had a massive influx of players from other clubs like Logan and South’s over this period.

There was also a cultural shift with the added success evolving from the legacy of those who built the club through the 90s, I think Sunnybank struggled with the changing demographic of its catchment; pokies in the club house and the cultural shift with the increasing % polynesian players. I think it lost its rugby community feel when the club/pokie renovations occurred, it became a bit sterile and enough wasn’t done to embrace the polynesian influence and build on that culture. I haven’t been there in over a decade now, most of my era shifted to South’s.

On field success might be a reflection of that, or a causation. Hard to say.

wow pretty impressive considering he was a backrower. Don't know who he was behind at the reds but you would of thought he would have had a few more caps.

He was with the Aus 7s I believe and I don’t think 7s program was linked synergy wise with the super rugby franchises where you could chop and change/week to week…. like it is now

What games we looking forward to this week?

I see the wests team line up has 6 changes from last weeks game. Has wests ever had the same team from one week to the next?

I get you want your best team on the park that's available but surely the chop and changes aren't good for team chemistry and continuation?

Wests certainly aren’t on wood but with 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses the powers to be would certainly like wins over Brothers and Sunnybank to turn for home with 5.5 wins. Turn with 4 and a half wins means that they need to win 6 from 8 in the second half of the season - still manageable but not leaving much wriggle room.

West obviously not taking Brothers lightly - 11 contracted players 12 if you include Tauakipulu, lets see what happens

1-Johnson Tiumalo (Reds Academy Tier 1)
2-Ngauamo
3-Tiko (Fiji Drua)
4-A.Smith (Rebels)
5-Faifua (Reds)
6-Maiava (Rebels)
7-Anderson (Reds)
8-Tauakipulu (exReds)
9-Werchon (Reds)
10-Whiteside
11-Vudugo (Rebels)
12-Paramore-Naea (Rebels)
13-D.Vaihu (Rebels)
14-Tupu
15-G.Vaihu (Rebels)

good contest out at Crosby road today. Brothers looked like the better team going into half time but wests were just too clinical in the 2nd stanza.

wish Brett Cronan mic was working… the gentlemen is going to the World Cup as a TMO for excelling at the technical intricacies of the game.- would of liked to hear his reasoning on the live mic.

Souths this year know how to win "ugly" which hasn't been the case over the last few years. Sunnybank played well but not well enough. Souths have 25 points(4 wins and 9 bonus points) so they are really in the mix this year and it extends across the whole Club. They are leading the Club Championship.
