Qld Premier Rugby 2022

What makes you think he was made a promise? That would be very unlike what I have heard about how Shane Arnold operates (effectively why Jono Kent and Bernard Nickel left)
Shane Arnold is the big reason GPS has made inroads with colts and and blokes wanting to come back to play.

Can't make everyone happy with some good guys leaving also and taking opportunities else where.

Kaitu'u just needs a bit of patience and he will be playing prems on the regular. Improving every week.

Certainly the message he gave Souths when he left.

I think there were genuine hooking shortages at the start of the season, Maile was overseas and unsure if he was returning, Casey didn't seem too keen. They actually had to pull Freney out of retirement on short notice to cover.

All those blokes are older anyway, I imagine Fourie will be long term option for Souths unless he gets a contract?

Some important games this weekend when Wests have the bye - top of the table battle of the universities at St Lucia and Easts head to Crosby for a must win game for the tigers.

GPS will be barracking for Easts there - whilst also hoping for a big win against Norths to help their for and against.

The ladder is a bit out of whack at the moment with all the postponed games, probably wont get a clear picture until July. Wests sitting in 3rd but have played two more games than the guys below them.

Isnt that because some have had the bye each week and some havent yet? Then there was the rain disaster as well.

The ladder does look weird West have played 6 obviously no bye and Souths have played 3 with two cancellations and no bye

Brother at 4 and 3 probaly in the best position as they get lots of reds back.

Easts have 3 and 4 vacant on Rugby Explorer would expect 3 to be Van Nek I wonder who 4 is.

Top of the ladder looking very tight with Brothers in 4th spot having a game in hand and only 4 pts behind UQ. Wests could go from 3rd to 5th if Brothers win and GPS pick up a bonus point win over Norths.

Easts will find themselves in 7/8th spot if they go down to Brothers with Souths taking on Sunnybank, both teams could potentially get ahead of Easts on the ladder depending on the result.

Haha QPR at their best.

Ironically the Reds could have used an experienced hooker the last few weeks, if he were signed to a contract ala Anae he would be fine. The bloke has played for GPS for the past 4 years but some paperwork wasn’t correct I’m guessing.

so what’s the deal with the player union mandated time off for super rugby players before they return to clubland?

wallabies team announced on Sunday. So there’s potentially a window for all reds players back to clubland this weekend.

Lukhan Salakaia-Loto has been a welcomed addition to that young magpies pack. Hopefully some other reds players can join him in the premier grade comp this weekend.

It’ll be interesting this year - I reckon we may only see some blokes for a few weeks. With the Aussie A team playing that tournament from July you’d think a bunch of Reds guys will end up playing in that - I’m guessing Daugunu, Wright, Campbell, Paisami, Creighton, Smith and Blythe are all good chances of making that squad. Probably some of the props as well as they always pick a surplus.

Not sure there is anything 'mandated".
I guess it is like any employer situation- take some leave when the business is quiet. players may have planned some holiday leave some may have planned to get back to clubland.
Not sure how many players Wallabies, Aust A, Junior Wallabies are going to absorb / commit but out of a 32 man Reds Squad you would think 15-20 of them would be eligible for clubs (plus the ones in Rebels colours)

Pretty sure the players get to choose when they take their "leave" . In the past some returning Reds' players jump straight back in to QPR while others take a break from footy. Imagine it would have a bit to do with how much game time they were getting during the Super Rugby season and injury status.

that’s how I remember it last year.
Players didn’t return the week immediately after super rugby season ended excluding some injured players and bench players.

I swear someone said on these forums that there’s mandated time off between club rugby and super rugby but I could be mistaken on that commentary

The players union does have rules around how many minutes or games of rugby can be played over a period of time, as I understand it.

Similar to how the QPR has a maximum amount of minutes a player is supposed to play per 24hrs, it is something like 2.5 games worth to avoid blokes playing 6ths all the way up to 1sts on the same day, that it happens much these days. Nor do I think it is policed much anyway.

good win by the UQ reserve grade team last night. Knocked off the remaining undefeated team in the filth (filth look like they might of stacked a few Prem grade players down in Reggies)
