Not sure why my comment smacks of sour grapes? I have no affiliation to Brothers.

I stand by my comments that the road is long for Norths. Kelevi isn’t the first coach to head there who was seen as someone that can make a difference. As I’ve mentioned before we have the same conversations on these forums year after year and they keep ‘showing promise’ but nothing ever eventuates.

For any real change to occur the timeline needs to be long. You don’t build a club culture and depth over a few years. Does anyone honestly believe Norths would be up to the standard in 1st grade of a UQ, Brothers, GPS etc within 5 years?

It would be a miracle if Norths were up to speed consistently with UQ, Brothers and GPS within five years . But before they get anywhere near that ambition, they need to get themselves off the bottom of the table to be a solid mid table team that has the ability to press for finals.

Can’t see one coach taking them from wooden spoon to finals , it will need to be done in stages . Their Colts 1 team this year was a big improvement on previous seasons . Hopefully heading in the right direction ……….

Which brings the question who are the clubs on the move ?

Any spring to mind ? Up or down ?

If Norths are on the way up , who do they leapfrog?

^Its a good question. About the only Clubs you might say that Norths might surpass at the moment are Souths and Sunnybank - both of whom are on the slide.

Or if they aren't sliding - then other Clubs are doing more to widen the gap (Brothers, Easts, Jeeps , Bond , Wests, and UQ)

And I'm not sticking the slipper into poor old Norths but I reckon a lot of the feel good chat is based around a desire to witness progression and success more so than it being based on substantive performance evidence. I reckon the call is to cool the jets.

Granted the 1st grade is a work in progress but it is hard when Super Rugby franchises pick the eyes out of your developing players e.g Theo Fourie(Rebels), Andrew Romano(Force). However, having 2nd grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade and 6th Grade in this year's Grand Finals and two premierships is hardly a Club on the slide. I am reliably informed that 70 Colts have already signed with the Club for 2022, several months out from season start.

Sorry to disagreei Warhorse but Souths are not well run. 5 wins in two seasons is a terrible return as is retention. When a former club Captain moves elsewhere (2nd generation player) it is not a good sign of how the coach is regarded.

Some good talent available for Colts next year so if they can do well and then stick around in the subsequent years for grade rugby, success is not too far away for the Norths men. Certainly would be good for QPR.

As GPS showed this year with their Colts team, some of these ex-AIC boys can play. There were 10 Marist College Ashgrove starters in the Colts 1 XV that took the field in the Grand Final and 13 in the premiership squad.

A few of them will be on the interstate Super Rugby talent scouts' radars.

A big influx of Villanova old boys into Norths over the last 2 years complemented by the usual Padua and Pats alumni.
Some good talent available for Colts next year so if they can do well and then stick around in the subsequent years for grade rugby, success is not too far away for the Norths men. Certainly would be good for QPR.

I remember when he first came to GPS and then was snapped up by the Gold Coast Titans, probably back in 2010.

I see Pat Byron staying on as Head Coach at Norths, with Kelevi joining as an assistant.

Expect more of the same from Norths in 2022. Tacking on Kelevi to try and bring talent in won't help their cause much in the long run. I assume Kelevi is too busy with other commitments to fully commit to the Head Coach role there.

What’s old is new again at UQ with former attack coach for Prems under Heeno , John Slater , named as assistant coach for Colts 1 under Matt Ingram who has been the DOR at UQ this year. Don’t think missing finals went down too well.

It’s a pretty solid coaching set up with 1st and 2nd grade unchanged for next year.

He definitely needs to be playing First grade, too many Reds’ nines at UQ for him to get a crack.
