Qld Premier Rugby 2022

Ignoto

Uru looked a level above for the whole game, his ability to maintain that effort over 80mins was immense. That’s what we want to see from the super rugby blokes who play club level.
Only poor thing I saw Uru do, was that quick tap where he botched it and kicked it into one of his own players......

Dangunu didn't really do much to make any selector think they've mistaken not selecting him. I feel like todays trip was his second one this year as he did it in recent memory?

Absolutely cracking day out at Suncorp, impeccable vibes, it feels like the club game has gained new life in recent years. Whether that's due to covid, stan or something else I'm not sure, but I fell like the return to Ballymore next year is going to be one hell of a party. Cannot wait.

Oh and congratulations Wests!

Huge congratulations to Wests from a proud Uni supporter- you out muscled out enthused and out classes a very good Uni side who just didn’t get the final touches right but tried their guts out - great season - looking forward to next year.

I actually thought he had a pretty solid outing tbh, particularly his first half performance. Some good runs and a few big tackles, including one that could have been a potential try saver.

Wouldn’t read too much into the trip either, it’s purely a reflex.

Was disappointed with how Campbell finished the game. Obviously had some key involvements early for UQ, but then seemed to drop off. In the second half he actually made a few errors which Wests capitalised off. He's been running around with UQ for a number of weeks now so I would have thought he'd be the most 'glued' with his teammates.

agreed. He's also been training with the Wallabies so perhaps the intensity of that plus travel and the fact that there's got to be an adjustment period for your first time in a national squad (living in camp etc) it could purely be a fatigue factor. He'll be better for it eventually.

I thought it might've been a case of him (and also Tate) feeling the pressure and trying to do too much to get UQ back in it

Just got to watch this game, what a nice salve after Bledisloe 1. Pretty expansive rugby from both teams. Gordon managed to have an understated game in a team that won with 44 points. He's a great tackler though for a boy his age and size.

For QPR watchers, what's the go with Dobbins & Uelese? I've read here that people rate Dobbins more? Is he going to be super contracted, or do you guys just think Uelese hasn't performed (until this weekend).

Yeah, Uelese has really struggled to slot into that Wests side at times so things like lineout throwing were a real issue for him. It's definitely a much harder position to just drop into in a team you haven't really trained or played with much before, so it's not surprising it's only at the very end of the season when he should've finally had a bit of time with the team that it clicked.

From what I saw of wests this year Dobbins was one the best in the comp and probably in contention for the Alec Evans medal. Not contracted as far as I'm aware but should get time in the challenger series against the Reds development XV. From there he might pick up a spot in the squad, but it probably depends on where they see Blake fitting in and whether or not they want 5 hookers in the squad

Dobbins definitely feels more like the 'modern' hooker you see running around these days. Is great over the ball and linking through the park.

I think Nasser came on really well this year for the Reds, but I still feel like he plays as a prop turned hooker, as in does similar work to the props but is a bit more mobile.

Will be interesting to see if the Reds find space for Dobbins.

Probably the most skilful Hooker in the comp - great hands and a very good reader of general play

Read an article where Nick Stiles says how much having the rebels players sticking together in one team will help them come next year. Why don't they make a play to put in a team like the Canberra Vikings did in the early 2000s and send their team down on a Saturday for games. That would have to be better for them as opposed to sending them to multiple clubs?

Why would they bother now? The team with the most Rebels just won the QPR.

If they were to take ownership of their own team it would increase their admin needs and costs significantly, running training sessions, branding and promotion etc.

Right now all they have to do is book some flights/accom for some blokes and the rest is all sorted.

Agree. Now the problem with Nasser at hooker is that in the last three years he has played only around 10% of the game time that Dobbins has, when he is still learning his craft.

Dobbins is light years ahead of Nasser and any of the props converted to hooker in the Reds through his game time played at such a high level.

I agree on Dobbins - standout QPR hooker - should get a super rugby opportunity somewhere

Over who? I'm a Wests fan and he is a good player but I don't really see him being head and shoulders above any of the pros. Maybe in the academy progams

Reds - Asiata, Blake, Nasser
Brums - Lonergan, McInerney, Pollard
Tahs - Latu, Vailanu, Porecki
Force - Faainga, Kaituu, Winchester
Rebs - Uelese, Mafi, Rangi
