QLD Premier Rugby 2021

I feel like Petaia will either be unreal as a fullback, or just not look good playing back there, similar to how some wingers clearly shouldn't play fullback. Probably get a games grace to find his feet again. But the bloke was a walk on Wallaby last year, if he's going to make a fair crack of 15 I think he should be touching up the guys at club level, similar to how DHP looked a class above in his short stint at GPS.

Mate you’ve been very critical of Petaia over the season.

I know he joined the reds with big wraps and when he’s been healthy he’s lived up to the hype.
I think a lot of the frustration stems from his injury but you were one of the early table bangers saying he needs to play club rugby to find some mojo after a early season butterfingers stretch.

Hoping he proves you wrong. :)

Yeah I'm hearing inclusions from: Gibbon, Uelese, R. Haylett-Petty, Hosea, Vunivalu, Fa'amausili, Lomani, Petaia then the usuals like Gordon, Vudogo, Sorovi, Vaihu, Drohasese.
Have heard potentially Rob Leota too.
Josh Kemeny would have played however injury last week has haulted that.

Not to mention the potential they could have had with Paisami, Henry and Daugunu too.

Again my opinion has been expressed in this. Great for the comp, not great for some of the players, but thats footy I guess. Have heard rumours QRU are not budging on finals eligibility rules in which case only the reds players plus Gordon, Vaihu and Vudogo would qualify (Still incredibly handy for them).
I suppose its a catch 22 for the coaches. Theyre super rugby players, you aren't going to say no to them, however at what cost if you can't have them in finals.

On another note, where are the Waratah Wallaby squad members playing club rugby with no shute shield???

There was a GPS Colts 1 team (or maybe an Under 17 team...) a number of years ago (I'm talking 10+), a few of the players were mates with three blokes who would go on to become QLD Maroon regulars and they used to come down and watch the games.

Eventually the three were granted a special dispensation from their NRL clubs to play 5 games for GPS. The team destroyed their opposition for those next 5 games before being turfed out in the first week of finals because they couldn't play without their guns! Anyway not the same situation but it's in the same vein.

I hope he does too.

I think my criticism is fair and I don't think he's a bad bloke or anything.

He has been provided every opportunity and pathway available and I don't think he's lived up to his expectations yet, injury has played a large part. I disagree with the notion he's lived up to the hype when healthy, his ball security and overplaying his hand during the season were hallmarks of his play style.

As a Reds and Wallabies fan I really want to see him thrive but he's got a ways to go.

That’s cool Phil.

Your entitled to your opinion. I think every time he has stepped onto either super rugby or test field he’s had a moment in the game where he’s looked like the best athlete out on the field. But footy isn’t about moments it’s about 80 minutes.

I’m just hoping he puts a good performance in clubland this weekend so he can give his skeptics a bit of belief

Tipping for this week is HERE

Was tempted to handicap Wests by 60 but have too much respect for Bond, and it's Wests, they could still loose this.
Brothers UQ and Easts are the other favourites.
UQ v GPS will be a cracker, have given GPS a 5.5 point start.

Hat off to Universitie on their backline this year. The one name to play GPS is very young & still developing but how good will these player be in 2-3 year?

That might of actually just happened as the Wests teamlist doesn’t feature Jordan Petaia anymore.
Agree , the bench is now named and no Wallaby squad members on it .

The “name withheld” at 4 for Bond might be Angus Blyth , he’s been missing from QPR for a few weeks now. Would be an interesting battle between him and Hosea.

Actually think Bond might be up for this . They were good for a large part of the game against UQ last weekend. If they can maintain the rage for the full 80 , they are a good chance .

Yes Angus Blyth is starting lock, will be partnering his young brother.

Fraser McReight has been removed from the Brothers lineup as well.

That’s a impressive win by GPS. I would say the best of the round.
Closely followed by Wests victory on their best match of the year on the back of a red card 14 on 15 for 40 mins of the match.
& can’t count out the biggest score line of the year with brothers putting 83 on the Bank.
Shame for Easts they playing some great footy but left their charge to late…

Prefer the former definition. Watched the Bond and Wests, and then the UQ and GPS’s replay and thought Spencer Jeans and Bobby Tuttle were miles ahead.
