I see posts today confirming that all senior and junior rugby has been postponed until at least June 1.

I think its time to cut the cord and allow clubs to think of measures to prepare and recover in 2021. No matter the length of any competition this year, it won't cover anywhere near the costs they need to recoup, they need to be pooling their resources elsewhere rather than holding out for a miracle season to start.

I would argue the opposite - even if it a severely shortened season - any season is a good season. Gives teams a chance to host home games and seeing as clubs would have ordered, paid and received their seasons worth of playing and supporters kit - it would help put some money in the bank to be able to survive the off season with no activity.

I definitely would love to see some rugby, but regarding your points, and I have posted something similar before:

- the likelihood of having crowds allowed at suburban grounds at all is very slim, therefore takings at home games probably aren't a financial incentive this year. I imagine if any rugby is to be played it will be from Ballymore and probably just Premier and Premier Colts.

- playing kit isn't going out of date, they can hold onto that kit and distribute it next year.

That is true - but if you have sponsors that committed this year and can't next season - then have new sponsors it becomes a nightmare.

I am glad I am not charged with any decisions. My club plays in the Sunny Coast comp - so keeping crowds out is a logistically nightmare!

In this case, the biggest reasons would be for the money, many of the clubs have fixed costs and overheads that they'll need to pay, QRU/RA wont be in a position to help.

If, and its a big if, they could find someone willing to pay for the broadcast of live sport with a a bit of a premium charged on top, then it would offer a bit of cashflow for the clubs to avoid insolvency.

But this is the same predicament faced by every sporting club, and code at the moment, an no one has found a solution for it at this stage.

I have heard it all now - Rugby League is apparently an essential service - please!! The community needs it??

Mind you Covid-19 has certainly shon the spot light on the financial viability of a number of codes none more so than Rugby in Australia.

I think the clubs will come out of this but I don't know about the professional level of the game in Australia. If it does I think it will need to re-embrace Twiggy's Force.

I don't often agree with Greg Martin but he said recently that it is going to become increasingly like soccer with the elite Australian players all playing abroad.

Maybe the National Club comp is the way the game needs to go in Australia.

hearing clubs are possibly preparing for a single round competition and the idea of a grand final of 1 v 2. This would allow each club 4 home games and around half the revenue usually recouped, allowing them to possibly still be viable.

In order to complete that portion of the season, the competition would need to restart around early July.

I’ve heard a similar plan but it would likely only be two open teams (Prems and Prem Reserve) and Colts 1 and 2, no juniors in 2020.

The reason I’ve heard for this is because based on two full size fields per club, they would only be allowed a maximum of 100 people on the grounds for training purposes and limited crowd numbers on weekends. Possibility of lower grades training on different nights but at this stage from what I’ve heard they just want to get the first plan off the ground. This is second hand knowledge so others here may be better informed.

Wests must be doing it tough. Their bread and butter has always been event space for hire. Bdays, weddings, conventions at a centrally located site.... that’s all dried up for the foreseeable future. Thank god for the rent coming in from the tenants that lease space at Sylvan Road.

As I understand it Brothers have a DA lodged and this has been funded (the lodgement) and is still proceeding. What happens when approval is obtained is another matter. I suspect any building works will not commence until things resume normality.

The bottom oval (field and lights only) renovation is scheduled and funded to happen in Oct/Nov this year. I assume this will go ahead.

Awesome. Glad it will proceed. But I still think the covid spanner in works may affect the timeline and being able to play games at Crosby road... i really wanna see the Nudgee Filth on Saturday out at the wallaby factory

Brothers playing out at Nudgee - how do they deal with liquor licensing? I would have thought that this could cause some issues on school premises - maybe they might have to play home games at another club e.g. Norths, GPS or Wests and come to an agreement over the days takings.

Or play out at Kenmore like Wests did during construction. Easts played on the crickey club field when their main field was out of action going back a while.

I'd think Btothers could set up on the lower oval but wouldn't be able to charge entry!!!

No problems at Joeys with their famous Jacks Bar at Hunters Hill. Ditto for home games at King's, Shore and Scots. I realise these schools are in Sydney, as a holder of a liquor licence in New South Wales and a former resident of Queensland, the licensing laws are a tad different, but, they aren't that different. Queensland does/did have a booth licence for shows/fairs, etc., surely Nudgee could be granted one of those for Brothers matches.

Fairly certain all (most) GPS schools in QLD had liquor licencing, but it was revoked back in 2005/06 after the huge old boys brawl that erupted at a Terrace v Nudgee 1st XV game out at Tennyson. There may be other arrangements in place now as that was some time ago, but they definitely weren't able to sell any grog on school premises for a while.

Fairly certain all (most) GPS schools in QLD had liquor licencing, but it was revoked back in 2005/06 after the huge old boys brawl that erupted at a Terrace v Nudgee 1st XV game out at Tennyson. There may be other arrangements in place now as that was some time ago, but they definitely weren't able to sell any grog on school premises for a while.

Most the GPS schools are back having post game drinks , nothing served during games , but there is a near stampede towards the serving areas on the blowing of the full time whistle.

The top of the grandstand and the grassed area in front of the function room at Tennyson are great spots for a beer whilst still having a good view of the field. Have drowned many a sorrow there with likeminded people in recent years after Terrace’s on field performances.

I wouldn't be too worried about the psychy. The fact is we haven't had the cattle to produce the wanted results against better opposition, Castle and Deans had their own (very different) demons but they can't make guys catch and pass better.

Considering this is the Premier Rugby forum I should say, for all Castle did and didn't do, I feel like she did have a broad arching plan to care for more than just the top line players. She seemed invested in making junior, school and club rugby the pathway it once was. Hopefully whomever steps in now can keep working towards that goal.
