A team of kids versus a team that's been together for a couple of years plus a host of players poached from the same club. Throw in a 100 cap Wallaby on the bench. What other score would your expect? Not worth 20 cents./ Yeeah. Great chat.

Geez the Souths crew this year are a bit sensitive. Coming into the game everyone thought Souths would have been far more competitive and you knocked Brothers off the week before. And btw the not worth 20cents chat is in reference to a comment made by someone at Souths a few weeks ago, so yes, great chat.

20c was a bit harsh but Jeeps only had 3/8 from last years pack. 1 new face and the rest played 2nd grade last year - at jeeps. I don't know where Ratu Vio comes from but he would be hard pressed if Kibble and Gicquel were available.

The 3 new backs have certainly added spark to the Jeeps backline but I still haven't forgiven Souths for pinching David Codey all those years ago. What goes around comes around. Interestingly ex-GPS premiership winning prop startied for Souths.

what happened between Brothers and Jeeps? Was there a big reshuffle? Did Souths play at another level or did Jeeps play at another level? Don't know that Will Genia added a great deal of firepower but that was good skills in collecting that ball for his try. he was probably a bit rusty after a long break. Would the score be any different without him? probably not.

Absolutely do not want to take away from Souths win over Brothers the week before but the Brothers team did not respect Souths. And even though they dominated for most of the game, Brothers did not convert dominance into points especially rejecting umpteen penalty goal attempts in favour of going for the try.

Don’t forget when GPS pinched the Faainga twins.

Seems like no loved lost between the 2 clubs. I honestly don’t know where each club stacks up on the rivalry totum pole for each other but as a casual observer seems like there’s something there.

I don't keep up with all the numbers changing at clubs, but GPS have been in a strong position for some years, & good luck to them. It's always a shame seeing players leave one club en mass to another no matter which club suffers the loss. It undoes years of culture. Interestingly some of the better ex Magpies are yet to play prems for one reason or another.
I think it's great seeing ex Wallabies giving back to their roots & don't begrudge Will one bit. But just having his aura would rub off on the rest.
I don't think a lot is expected of the young Souths team this year & last week against Brothers was a nice surprise start. There are some positive aspects to their play that belie their 20 cent tag though. Strong lineout & rolling maul & pretty good kicking game to begin with. They'll take a lot from playing a more experienced GPS in the 2nd trial match, especially some of Genias professionalism. Hopefully they'll be upgraded to worth two bucks worth of chips by the next round.

For the record Penguin I actually have a lot of respect for Souths and great things to say about Dammers.

I thought Doubles was being a bit overly cheeky when he referred to Kerevi was not worth 20c a few weeks ago and I would give some back. The young Souths team will no doubt improve each season that they stick together.

In terms of players leaving en mass - I agree it sucks, but I don't think many clubs would go out deliberately to gut another club. I could be wrong, but having coached at GPS for many years there were never agendas to go after one particular club. Circumstances change which can cause mass shifts, for example things like a new coach, which is what has happened at Souths.

Ah. I see where your banter comes from. Fair play. Missed that barb, worthy of recourse.
I don't think GPS went hard after the Souths players, it's just how the cards fell. I have no insight into the trappings. Just what I read here & other snippets. There are a few more ex Maggies scattered here & there.
Kind of shocked to hear QC (Quade Cooper) is training down at GPS with Genia& Ioane. But maybe it's just old amigos hanging out, riding out covid.
I was just sticking up for the young blokes. Hopefully this will be a big learning year & they can stick together & become contenders. There's definitely some talent there.

I think this forum should get off Todd Dammer's case.

He really copped it on here when he was at GPS, he's gone back to his junior club done a great job with their colts and is now taking a number of those colts through to premier grade - they need to be given a fair go this year. Consistency will be what they are after this year but regardless of who they"re playing they'll have a crack.

They will be better in 2021 but be careful with them in 2020.

On the basis that 5 wins is the magic number in 2020 - Souths get wins over Bond, Snbk, Nths, Wests then they only have to snare one upset against the rest to make the four.

Same could probably be said for the aforementioned clubs.

So is Genia turning out for GPS for the rest of the year? If he's got clearance from Japan does that mean Quade will play? They are both signed to the same Japanese club.

Its been perfect weather for footy all week... but it looks like it could turn a bit wet over the weekend.

I think GPS will be fine there current fly half is the Fijian flyhalf.

I was of the understanding it was a one-off so that Will could play a game with his brother. I dont think he has clearance to play the rest of the season. If it did, it would probably result in Nigel playing 3rd grade. Plus is Malolua would come back from the Reds and into second grade. Nice problem to have but somebody's feeling would get hurt which would probably result in more club hopping.

Pretty funny, the club hopping would have come full circle if that occurred - Will originally left the club after his 2006 Colts season as he wasn't given the Premier Grade starting spot over Sully after Genia's first season with the Reds.

Agreed. Moloney should have been next to have a go and would have held his own. Pretty sure he isn’t contracted anywhere, just overlooked for younger kids.

If Will just played a one off game with Nigel - which is a nice thing & great to see Will playing QPR - BUT did GPS get the appropriate clearance and was he registered properly otherwise GPS has played an unregistered player for which there should be a penalty (usually loss of competition points). The clearance/release would have to have come from the Japanese RU not just permission from his club.

It can be a long drawn out process so one wonders whether it would be worth the effort for a one off cameo.

There is a history of clubs being punished for playing unregistered players.

Did GPS/Will pay the RA/QRU registration fee?

Sorry this might be nit picking but proper registration is a very important part of the competition otherwise some clubs would fly in all manner of players for cameos.

Just last year Ben Mowen was unable to take the field for Easts until his clearance came through.

This delayed him taking the field for a few weeks, then he couldn't get enough games in, to qualify for the semis.

Rules are the rules and the QRU registration rules are quite strict.

Having said all this I would be surprised if GPS would compromise their 2020 campaign by playing an unregistered player or were they just taking advantage that the first two rounds were essentially trial games.

The QPR can take any points away that GPS earned from the win over Souths.
