I’m surprised Naiavalu is still playing club rugby given he has already signed for France

probably doesn't have a RA release. He'd still be in broader contention for a Wallaby spot I guess, if there's injuries.

He was a real handful yesterday for Easts - very hard to stop, great to see, and fantastic to see Ben Mowen out there in the 2nd half, looked in fantastic shape and lots of enthusiasm.

But if the referees continually let scrum feeds go like yesterday, the GPS scrum will be de-powered considerably. I thought I was watching league yesterday. Check the Sunnybank feed at the 48 min and 53 minute for case in point as the scrum is almost straight in line with camera. The ball is at the No. 8's feet before GPS have even pushed.

Agreed but it wasn't only those scrums it was every scrum that Sunnybank fed. Good luck to them for using a tactic that neutralized the dominate GPS scrum but if that is the way the scrum is going to be refereed in future then we may as well do away with scrums and restart with a tap.

So wests pathway is a bonus point victory and easts losing their next 2 games?

What’s the tiebreaker when teams finish on same competition points? Assume total wins is stronger tiebreaker then fir&against?

Who of the Bro v Uni returning cavalry stood out?

i saw the opening 5-10mins and Hockings appeared a handful. Also makes it easier to standout when you're 2 foot taller than the rest.

What a round in the tipping, I've never been happier not to get a result with the Uni v Brothers game :)

Robbitybob manged the perfect round, so congrats.

Poor Reg took a risk, tipped a draw in one game, and resulted in 0/4. This hasn't happened much this year.

My understanding is that the first criteria is number of wins, then F&A, which puts Wests at a disadvantage with 6 wins todate despite a very handy F&A.

But with a BP win over Souths, Wests could get to 39 points which could well be what Uni & Easts end up on. Bond could also get to 39 with 2 BP wins.

It seems that QPR always gets down to the last round to determine the top 4. It is a great competition.

Pity you don't get points for a bye!

There weren't that many returning for UQ , Hocking and Campbell played the week before against SB , but no ASY (Angus Scott-Young) , Korczyk ,Nasser or Oats from U20's , plus Tate's still in a moon boot.

Wilson and McReight were strong and busy , but Hocking I would say had the biggest impact, the last lineout steal to save the game probably summed it up. Still can't believe Brothers didn't take the penalty for the win with Hocking being so dominant in the air.

Fantastic game of footy. Hockings and Campbell stand outs for Uni, McReight and Wilson for Brothers. Boy they work hard, it's the Thorn touch I reckon these guys play their guts out. Cannot wait for next season.

Toupou looks like he has potential, needs some conditioning.

Tough call at the end, Brothers between a rock and a hard place: killer wind, scrum getting smashed by Uni and a young 8 foot tall Eales impersonator in their way in the lineout.

EDIT: two EPIC games coming up for jeeps. Should be some great footy coming into finals.

Isaac Lucas looked great nearly every touch he had for Sunnybank, as a GPS supporter he gave us nightmares. Looking forward to see how he develops for the Reds over the coming years.

Magnay wasn't as involved as I would have liked. He easily got over the advantage line with his runs but didn't go looking for work too often which was shame. DP de Lange looked to be hooked or injured with 20mins to go and they moved Jono Kent from the wing to flyhalf (?)... just another example of some of the weird back line decisions. Jono played well at 10 but again no consistency with playing positions. Have also heard Hergarty is probably out for the year as he had a minor surgery, although not confirmed.

Re Hegarty off for surgery - seems that is the modus operandi for the Reds is get them into surgery ASAP to maximise recovery time before Reds season/pre-season which is fair enough though.

Interesting thing is that whilst he is contracted to the Reds the club (in this case GPS) probably pays his registration fees (unless the player pays but you will find most clubs pay the registration fees regardless of whether they actually run out for the club in the season).

who was Wests 12?

don't worry. I know who it was...

Was is Ikitau who got the head knock the other week? Pretty sure Isaac Henry is out for at least 2 more weeks with fractured rib

The line outs were shocking by BBC but whilst number 13 was excellent, he was given excellent field position by the 10. I think 13 and 10 have some of the best defence I have seen in a while. Anybody know if coaches told both teams to not kick it out? With BBCs line outs I can understand why it happened for them.

Found them.

Thought country backs were very good but huge disparity in forwards favouring city for the 2nd and 3rd thirds.

Isaac H is at junior wallabies training squad camp, not sure about Liam.

Carter made a few errors that everybody seems not to notice (probably comes with the aus schoolboys reds academy rose tinted glasses), but hopefully hunter and Isaac will help him mature. I will say he seemed to stick to the game plan quite well.

Wests will only be threatening if their 10 learns to stay in his lane and take the line on at least once in a game. Their kicks in play were shocking (just kicking it up in the air to allow Brothers lovely open play). They didn’t use 12 enough, who was one of the only level-headed ones with plenty of talent. I just don’t know where their heads were at. I know they were up against a good side, but panicking like they did won’t win them games.

Just a thought. what happened to player merit? Why do all contracted reds players seem to be considered automatically better than players who may just have gone unnoticed? I’ve seen some really great kids miss out on starting spots because of this shit.

I won’t mention names, but let’s just say I have inside info that some players have been slotted into positions at the expense of others (who have been loyal, strong players for the club) merely because they have a reds contract of some sort. The talent certainly isn’t any more impressive.

More than 1 club I believe.

He is number 12 Isaac Henry. He is 24 from 24 this year so far I was told on Saturday.
The rugby au website doesn’t show the breakdown of scores, does anybody know where we can get more detail of the games??

Aussie schools really doesn’t matter at all. Nor does whether a player has been contracted quite frankly. The question is whether they have selected the best players in the squad. I don’t believe they have. There a lot of boys selected based on being there last year etc. and some great players from the NRC/URC have been overlooked. Not to mention the noticeable even spread of states seems a bit fishy to me.

The 10,12 and 14 are strange to me, but I wasn’t at the training camp.

I must say I have been told by some ex wallaby players that the coaches don’t really know what they are doing with the under 20s.

Well, I have some theories. Boys make the Aussie schoolboys teams and their names are permanently out there. Boys who may have been injured or just didn't make the schoolboys teams have to work twice as hard to get noticed, and even then, they don't seem to get the go ahead for positions, regardless of whether or not they are better than those who have played in green and gold before. Then they bring boys back from league, or over from 7s and put them in the side because they went to such a lot of trouble to get them to union.

I was under the impression that the URC was supposed to filter into these selections but clearly their minds were somewhat made up before this comp.

7s is a different game, although I do get your point. I think everybody should have an equal opportunity to get selected, regardless of their connections, schoolboy history etc. Obviously a quality player that was injured during URC should still be considered. However, there are players who have been selected who were at URC who I think are a little bit over rated. I don't think they have picked the best 28 we have. I think they should watch players at club etc. leading up to Argentina to get a real insight into who should go.

NRC will be interesting this year. I'd be picking some boys in QPR over some of the contracted reds players by far. Some great prospects for the reds have been turning up week in and week out.

Damn the young West's backline is good.

Henry has also trained on the wing and centres in Aussie u20s camp. Aside from Gordon and the two 9s, the backline is pretty versatile

Yes, Carter showed his youth a bit. It only gets harder from here for Wests. I'd be playing Isaac at 10, Carter at 15, Hunter at 12 and Jordy Petaia at 13 when he returns for plan B.

Why not give one of the QPR 12s a go at 12? Try the pathway out

Isaac Lucas played 10 for Brisbane City in the U19s last year and Isaac Henry played 10 for Queensland Country. Both Isaacs born in 1999.

Look, it's just great that we have a place like GAGR to push our respective barrows - or family members...
