Poor display at Sunnybank yesterday. Sunnybank prop red carded. Then a fight in the car park involving parents of players after the game. Some not so friendly chat being hurled at players throughout the GPS half. The language was a absolute disscrace. Sunnybank has turned into a absolute joke.

Sounds bad. How bad was the altercation after the game? Will police be involved?

About 4 parents involved. I’m hearing it started because one of the parents had a crack at a player about his deceased dad. Horrible. I’m not sure if police were involved.

Dalgleish played well. Not sure I would use the word standout. He is a quality player but hard to judge as his forward pack spent the afternoon going backwards. Is that Uni’s best scrum ? Two pushovers, one from 10m out. Uni absolutely no quality ball at scrum time, they were smashed. However, Brothers line out inconsistent. Uni slightly better. Could have been a larger margin if not for 2nd half changes. Fraser McReight easily best on ground. Hard to not see him in a Reds run on jersey soon. Allowed Big win for Brothers in Reggies.

The doggies have recruited really well this season. It was great seeing Daugunu out on the wing in a whole new revamped backline.
The Forward pack also has got a lot bigger.

The most intriguing recruit I will be watching closely this year was Carter Gordon. The BBC flyhalf fresh out of school. I don’t know if he will be playing colts football being a reds academy player but playing 1st grade football on weekend, he did look good.

Big test this weekend against Souths whom I heard have also recruited really well after many offseason departures.

Assuming west’s easily accounted for their opponents??

Yes obviously other teams might of recruited just as well.

But Easts were one of the better teams last year & on limited viewing I thought the bulldogs looked good against the Tigers on Saturday.

Would of thought Isaac Henry or Liam Moseley would be ahead of Carter Gordon for the Doggies.

Word is Liam Moseley on recovery trail from off season shoulder surgery. Looking to get back into top grade come early rounds.
Isaac, not sure why he didn't play. Yes, he's with Aus 20s squad but that didn't prevent Joe Cotton and Will Deardon having a run around.
The young bloke at fullback was Cooper Whiteside, handy player.

The Fonz (Aka: Alfonso Horomia) won't like starting on the bench (potentially reserve grade) that's why he left Sunnybank and Easts!!

I don't think he'd start in prems at Wests either but credit where credit is due he did a job for GPS last year (get them over the advantage line) and he did it well.

Pretty handy GPS side though. Pity the Smiths can't run out for them. Where is Tuttle?

What's happened to the Fonz's brother?

GPS SEASON PREVIEW

2018 WRAP

2018 was a memorable year for GPS, with the club breaking a 22-year drought to claim their first Hospital Challenge Cup since 1996.

The side defeated the University of Queensland on Grand Final day, marking the second consecutive year the rivals have met in the big dance. The teams also met in the major semi-final, where UQ were victorious 24-21 to move through to the decider. The Gallopers went on to trounce Easts 52-14 in the preliminary final, before overcoming the Students 23-16 to lift the Hospital Cup at Ballymore.

The premiership win has seen a host of experienced names leave the club, including veteran prop Ryan Freney, and premiership winning backs Albert Nikoro, Jaye Thompson and Tavita Davis, while last year’s assistant coach Elwee Prinsloo has taken the reins as Head Coach in 2019.

The Gallopers will also likely be without James Tuttle and twin props JP and Ruan Smith for much of the season due to injury and St.George Queensland Reds duties respectively, making their task of winning back to back premierships all the more difficult.

The side has recruited well, snaring former Queensland and Australian schoolboys Tuaina Tualima and Maile Ngaumo from Sunnybank and Souths respectively, while New Zealander Jethro Falemiand Matt Lieder from the Sunshine Coast have also joined the ranks at Yoku Road.

No side has won consecutive titles since the now defunct Canberra Vikings in 2003, can GPS break another drought in 2019 and win two on the trot?

THE INSIDE WORD

“We’ve recognised what we have done right over the past few years and now it’s about building on that. If we play the same standard of Rugby we played last year we won’t make the finals, so for us it’s all about improvement.

“Preseason went really well. The boys all seem to be in a really good headspace and are looking really fit after a good hit out in the trial matches.

“Of course going back to back is our end goal, but it’s not something we talk about a lot at training. We know we have to shift our game to improve and that’s our focus.”

- Elwee Prinsloo

PLAYER TO WATCH – Matt Gicquel

After a breakout 2018 season, Matt Gicquel will be a key factor if the Gallopers are to go back to back in 2019. The Sunshine Coast product was a revelation for Jeeps last season after making the move south, winning the Alec Evans medal as player of the final and earning National Rugby Championship selection with Brisbane City. Gicquel played five games for the City side in 2018 and will bring back newfound experience and skill to the Queensland Premier Rugby scene in 2019.

KEY RECRUITS

Jethro Falemi – West Harbour (New Zealand)
Matt Lieder – University of the Sunshine Coast
Tuaina Tualima – Sunnybank
Maile Ngaumo – Souths

Chris Kurindrani – Honda Heat (Japan)
