The livestream seems to show Souths rely very heavily on getting the ball wide as quickly and by any means possible to their speedy outside backs and hope they can run around the opposition. When this doesn't work they don't appear to have a Plan B. The forwards were average and poor scrummagers and the inside backline play had little flair. They really missed Cooper in this regard. I wouldn't rate Souths a benchmark team unless they can show more all around capability from 1 through 15.

While it didn't affect the eventual outcome, I heard that Souths Reggies went to uncontested scrums at half time however their 3rds were able to play contested, meaning they must have had qualified front rowers on the bench to replace their struggling Reggies starting front rowers. Perhaps the competition rules should be adjusted to include some form of penalty in lower grades (already exists for Prems) and the QRRA implement a system whereby the referee from the immediate lower grade match advises the next higher grade referee if the lower grade playing team finished a match with contested scrums - thus hopefully being able to remove this uncontested scrums blight on the game.

3rd Grade plays before 2nd Grade.

If it becomes a pattern where they are constantly going uncontested then so be it.. throw the rulebook at them

But just because they were able to contest in 3rd Grade doesn't mean we know the circumstances as to why they weren't able to in 2nd grade. A prop could of been injured or unavailable to bench due to prior commitments.

GPS went uncontested in 5th grade and 4th grade, from kick off, so there is obviously front row problems in both clubs.

And you would think that that is how it should be in the lowest grades if you have front rower shortages. The issue is when you have contested scrums in lower grades (and therefore competent trained front rowers who can bench for higher grades) but somehow then can't find front rower reserves for the next higher grade. For Reggies you would think that you would have the three fourth grade front rowers who sat on the bench for 3rds, the three 3rd grade front rowers, and if a competent Colts 1 program, three front rowers from that game - who should all be there when Reggies commences as they have just finished their commitment. if you can't find three front rower reserves from that group of nine then your club has had a very bad day of injuries with front rowers or there is something else amiss.

Anyone get to the Uni Vs Wests game. Was the scoreline reflect of the game? UQ had young tight head prop playing how were scrums ?

Nasser's scrums seemed solid enough. Also scored one of the great THP tries from turnover ball 50m plus out. Check the highlights when they pop up on-line.

His scrummaging really struggled...it didn't go well for him against their big loose head. 4 or 5 times he got the lofty treatment but I think that would be his first time in Premier grade so it would be very harsh to judge him based on this. His ball carrying was strong and obviously the highlight was the long run in for the try when he reacted quickly to pick up the loose ball with Wests on attack.
The game was quite tit for tat for long periods, Uni up 26-15 at HT but it was 33-29 with about 4/5mins to go. A beautifully constructed try to Dalgleish and then a try with the last play from deep in their own half to make it 45-29.

Nah wasn't putting down Norths, just saying they didn't forfeit, even though they were getting flogged.

Good win by Jeeps, still my team standard for this year. Souths were unlucky, but then a lot of teams can say that.

I'd say a bit has changed over at Norths in the last few years. It didn't seem that long ago they only fielded 2 colts sides and 3 or so grades - with all getting flogged. Now they are fielding 5 grades with the lower ones all in the top 4. Prems aren't winning, but they are competitive and depth is building which is first and foremost to future prems success.

good report.
Nassr try was phenomenal.. Big poppa pinned his ears back and saw nothing but the try line 50 metres or so out... he was able to outrun Liam Dillion which is no small feat considering Liam Dillion out ran the whole Heavies backline in the first half to score first try of the game.

The game was setup for a cracker of a finish at 70th minute mark. 4 points in it. The bulldogs marched the length of the field but turned it over and UQ went their own length of the field and put it out of reach at 75th minute mark. 45-29 victory to UQ could of easily been a 34-33 or 36-33 victory to the Dogs.

Thought Foley & Gale were best on park for the Heavies and Jeremiah Lynch for the Dogs.

Great piece by Tim Mosey on the Halley Appley Cup and Legacy on Rugby News. Going to be a cracking day.

Thought your guys match should of been match of the round.

Heavies & Gallopers are 2 of the top teams yet the QRU are giving the Norths v Brothers match top billing in what can only be seen as the “participation certificate” where both teams are currently positioned on the ladder.

Perhaps the QRU gets angry feedback about the heavies being match of the round too frequent or not enough Eagles games IDK but just doesn’t feel like the real match of the round

They just have to share the MOTR around.

I think each club is promised X number of games due to exposure for their respective sponsors.

I wonder whether any of the Reds Reserves for tonight's game will be sent to their club for minutes tomorrow - from a Wests perspective there are a lot of Tigers on the bench tonight and kick-off is not until 5:30 tomorrow at Sylvan Road. Got to love a twilight encounter.

Yes, got to share the love around. Norths v Brothers is a bit of a who cares clash with both sides battling not to win the spoon but both clubs deserves the coverage. Brothers have been unlucky with a couple of close losses and Norths are trying hard but don't have the quality of players from 1-15. I'm really looking forward to the game tomorrow with both Jeeps and UQ playing an exciting brand of footy. Hopefully it will be a free flowing game with lots of points on offer. Easts are looking like a real threat at the moment and have some genuine momentum in their favour going into their match v Wests. I expect Souths to recover after last weeks loss and bounce back with a solid performance over the Bank.
Jeeps over UQ by 3
Souths over Sunnybank by 12+
Easts over Wests by 8
Brothers over Norths by 15

It appears as though the Aust u20 reps have been put on ice this weekend. I thought they were not off to Europe for another week or so.

Perhaps there is a camp? Pretty sure I read something along those lines but could not point you to that tidbit

Does anyone think Quade will head to Rebels/Brumbies to force his way into Wallabies before next year's RWC?

Or will he play the season out for the Magpies?

Will he be included in an NRC side (BC or QC (Quade Cooper))?

i hope he goes to the rebels. I don't ever want to see the brumbies prosper.

but i understand why he hasn't left. he has a contract... he moved back from overseas to live and play in queensland. asking him to pack up and move interstate is unreasonable unless he is willing.

He will play for BC... thats the team he is aligned too.
