Once again the QRU have out done themselves. I'm hearing the Reds are doing an internal match on Friday and have ruled out majority of players from playing club on the weekend. So the Match of the Round game which will be shown on Foxtel which could have potentially had ten or so Super 15 players running around highlighting a quality game is now 6th v 7th with no Reds players taking the field and hardly something to rush home to watch. Great way to grow your brand!

This is ridiculous.

Did you know that the clubs have to pay the RA player registration for the Reds contracted players aligned to the club?

Quite often a club might pay for a player who never turns out for the club.

Surely they are insured under employment law as employees of the QRU/RA.

The media arm of the Reds were only last week spruiking how great that the Reds were returning to club land - they have an opportunity to turn out for their clubs this weekend and they arrange an intra-club scratch match?

Can someone please explain why this is a better "rugby" option than having them run around this weekend for their club?

Just as much chance of injury in the scratch match - potentially even more in my opinion.

It is just a kick in the guts for QPR by the Reds. Sadly the Reds ceased to be a representative team of Qld Rugby a long time ago.

It was good enough for Lurkan Tui to play reserve grade only just a few weeks ago!! What has changed in the last few weeks??

Is the Sunnybank No 8 who got red carded last week actually playing tomorrow? He produced a late massive shoulder charge to the head on an opposing player, right in front of the grandstand, and was deservedly directed to sit out the rest of the match. Was a magic wand waved over the judiciary, and if so, can the other clubs get a hold of that magic wand as well?
On a different note, does anyone know what dispensation was granted for Lukhan Tui to play Reserve Grade - in accordance with 8.1(1) of the Competition Rules. Seems unusual to play a Wallaby and Reds contracted player against Logan Reserve Grade, who appear to have enough difficulties already.

Just seeing that tackle on Rod Davies in a Uni jumper - didn't he also play a season or two for GPS?

Check out the last play of the Souths v Norths game last week on QPR highlights, no arms head butt from an off side position in Connor C face, broken Jaw. Judiciary ... An accident, nothing to see here.

See approx 1hr57:30 mark - would have been different if it was a Brothers player

What do you mean "it would have been different"? Do you mean that the decision - penalty and yellow card (resulting in loss of the game) would have been different i.e a Brothers player would have been let off or are you just saying that QPR refs are biased?

Maybe the inconsistency lies at the citing officer level - if a player is cited by an opposing team then it is up to the citing officer to determine whether the player needs to front a hearing.

I think there has been inconsistency at that level this year and I think that the penalties dished out by the judiciary panel have also lacked consistency from one incident to the next.

The main issue I see is that it is all done behind closed doors and we the supporters aren't privy to who is in front of the judiciary and what penalties are imposed - which I think is wrong.

To avoid the spoon Brothers will need to beat Norths and snag another win somewhere.

And hope that Norths don't grab another win - I wouldn't be surprised if Norths have another one or two wins in them.

Might be theBulldogs vying for the spoon now after their loss to Norths today and Brothers upset win.

Highly unlikely West will get the wooden spoon. Good win to Norths today they deserved the win , great kicker, but gee they play a boring & slow style ( stop start , wasting time etc) of rugby hard to watch. Wests gave away to many penalties and to much-dropped ball.
Great to see
strong prem grade comp

Saw it a bit differently, west’s made a heap of busts around the 3/4 n ruck. Norths defence pretty sold especially on their line where West’s turned it over atleast 6 or 7 times when they had prime scoring opportunities, credit to Norths forwards they had a real dig and their scrum dominated in the top 3 grades.

Also Norths was down to 13 with 2 boys in the bin, so you do slow it up as a result. Interestingly two no arm tackles by Wests in the first 20 min and two penalties in front to Norths 6 points, 2 no arm tackles in the following 20 by Norths and two yellow cards. Lord , give us some consistency !! Hopefully it’s on the audio, but the refs explanation to Reece hewat as to why ours were yellows was laughable. Jerimah lynch had a cracker before he got injured, how he’s not playing professional footy somewhere is a mystery. Just out of interest, watching weekly QPR highlights and the last time we played Wests, why does Wests not play their hooker in a 2 jersey, it’s always a reserve number, is it a club thing?

Projections 2018 - snip.PNG

These are my projections for end of season - in the above post - I have pretty much projected wins for the higher ranked sides except for Rnd 17 Norths v Bros and Rnd 18 GPS v Easts - just to show how tight it will get at the end of the season in the race for the top 4 and the wooden spoon.

I think at the end of H&A
1. Souths
2. Uni
3. GPS
4. Easts

9. Bros

I know Bond are doing well but my bolter for the 4 is Norths - if they were to win all remaining games they would finish on around 44 points and a game/2 dropped by Uni, GPS or Easts and that brings both Bond & Norths into contention.

Interestingly Norths will have a real bearing on the make up of the top 4 (& the spoon) as their remaining games are: GPS, UNI, Easts, Bros, Bond.

And so to Wests who finish: Souths, GPS, Uni, Easts, and then probably the grand final for the spoon v Bros in round 18!!!

A win over Brothers in round 18 at home to give them the spoon and Wests the Pilecki/Shaw trophy (in the year of Stan's passing) would make for a bearable summer!!!

We can’t rule out Sunnybank for the spoon. They’ve lost 4 or 5 games in a row. They had a nice result on weekend losing by 3 to heavies but I can’t imagine the culture too good down at Oldmac with the losing streak.

I’m not ready to make any predictions myself on minor premiers/wooden spooner until I see what Reds will be coming back to club footy after the super rugby season.

Maybe the Reds will arrange some scratch matches between the end of Super Rugby and the NRC so that they don't have to play QPR??

An example of why "high performance"/"player workload management" has gone mad in this country - its not restricted to Rugby mind you.
