Watched GPS V Sunnybank yesterday and am still scratching my head wondering how Jeeps pulled off a win as were many other old Jeeps hardheads. On saying that the Bank didn't finish off on numerous chances and should have won by at least 10.
It really was a brutal defensive game, I got hurt watching!!
Some years ago Jeeps would have lost this type of game but at last showed what can happen if you are fit and can continue to hang on in there.
It was a great day too with Ladies Day, plenty of pretty ladies and a good crowd in general.
As Sunnybank completed their warm-up and returned to the dressing sheds past the huge Ladies Day marquee with ladies spilling out of the tent and some seemingly falling out of the clothes my wife quipped, " I think Sunnybank feel like winners even if they lose"

Does anyone know what's happened to Pettowa Paraka? Is he injured? Can't help but think he would've played a lot of super rugby this year.

He missed the first day of Preseason training as he was in PNG. Stiles got straight on the phone to Kirwan Sanday and offered him the available spot on the training squad.

Unfortunately for Peraka, the correct decision. Why in the world would you miss the first day back at training, unless of course it wasn't high on his priority. There would be many players at club level that would do anything just for a chance to train with the squad.

This also puts Stiles' recent decision to send Frisby and Ready back to their Clubs for a while. Ready must be wondering when/if his banishment will be over.

With the Reds having a bye this week will we see the players heading back to clubland? The reds website has the following players listed at these clubs. It would be great to see them all play and boost the local competition.I assume some of the 20's boys won't be allowed to play this week.

Brothers:
Sam Talakai
Taniela Tupou
George Smith

James Slipper
Cadeyrn Neville
Hamish Stewart
Alex Mafi

UQ:

Hendix Tui
Duncan Paia'aua
Phil Kite
Reece Hewat

Easts:
Andrew Ready
Isaia Perese
Michael Gunn
Izack Rodda
Kirwan Sanday

GPS:
Nick Frisby
James Tuttle
Campbell Magnay
Chris Kuridrani
Eto Nabuli

Souths:
Samu Kerevi
QUade Cooper
Jayden Ngamanu
Chris F-Sautia
Marcus Vanzati
Caleb Timu

Sunnybank:
Rob Simmons
Jake McIntyre
Henry Taefu

Wests:
Leroy Houston
Lachlan Maranta

Highly unlikely to see all of these players this weekend but who can we expect to turn out for what clubs? The teams on the bottom of the ladder like Norths and Bond could really use these guys

I wouldn't expect any of the starting XV to play and likely a few of the reserves.

Yes it would be disastrous if the starters played for their club and you ended up with some serious injuries. It would be good if they had a presence at the clubs though - be around helping out, running water as Ed Quirk used to do for Easts when he was part of the Reds, chatting to the supporters and juniors etc.

On Samu Kerevi and playing club rugby - it's a real shame GPS didn't get over the line in 2013 when he was playing.

It was definitely the best opportunity they had over the last decade with the likes of Kerevi, Kuridrani, Sean McMahon, Frisby and Phil Kite all having significant impact throughout the season. Most of the mentioned players have either left the club or are playing professionally at a level where they don't get much club rugby.

I'm quietly confident in the team they have put together this year, but again I feel like it may be the only year they have a lot of these guys together as the guys who have come over from Perth especially are playing at a high level that could warrant professional contracts elsewhere post-season.
