Maybe Fogarty will bring a front rower over from GPS to Norths to compensate for the loss of Tonga or will they somehow try to entice Tasi back from sunnybank? Would be tough with sunnybank being grand finalists and tasi arguably the man of the match in a losing side.

They would be best off investing in young front rowers Garrath Ryan and Bart Ritchie as those 2 will be very good players in 2-3 years IMO. But another experienced front rower would definetly help the eagles.

Also what happened to Jake Milne this year? Didn't see him running around at GPS. Was he injured or overseas?

Taylor Bridge is great mate. I've got 4 nephews playing there and they love it. Coaches, mangers & community are all top notch as well.

I suspect Trainer GB was perhaps being a little circumspect and in a round a bout way pointing to UQ Rugby's not having a junior club.

To my knowledge there is only one Brisbane Club that has broken (agreed) ranks and actually paid the ARU $200/team impost. And it is the only one without a junior club (hence much less teams and much lees cost) and sits beside the river at St Lucia.

Happy to hear to the contrary.

Michael Lynagh played junior rugby at Brothers and he is probably UQ's most respected rugby player. Ben Tune also played for Brothers juniors before heading to Jeeps. David Croft played for Souths juniors before heading to Brothers Colts (mind you, Crofty's old man is a Brothers stalwart).

My whole point is that playing junior rugby at a club means fuck all. A lot of Brothers juniors later play at UQ (more convenient with their studies, etc.)
One of the main reasons is that parents out of convenience (short driving distance) take their kids to the closest club. Then once they get older and can drive, those young men play at a different club, mainly due to their mates, etc.

I honestly feel the pain of Wests. It must really annoy some of the stalwarts who keep seeing these former Doggies juniors running around in red jerseys. But, Wests will rebuild and hopefully become a top 4 team. I honestly miss the close games between 'Us & them'.

Loyalty is redundant nowadays, unfortunately. Obviously this is due to the game becoming professional. Tonga is a great young player and see's his best option for going further is to play for current champions in UQ. I can't blame him. But with Picone going to Souths, and player movements becoming more common, I reckon we are in for a some awesome times ahead, rugby wise. I just hope those new Reds recruits go to the bottom three clubs to make it more even.

A little murmur down in Sydney that former halfback Ed Brenahan will head back to QLD under Todd Dammers for 2015. That will have me to believe that Todd will bring in a few new faces. Great player Ed, spent some time in the Australian U20s set up and at Sydney University before heading over to the Golden Lions (majority Currie Cup games) franchise.

What does that mean for Sam Grasso? He left Bros to play more Prem grade and he'll now be the no.4 halfback at GPS behind Frisby, Tuttle and Brenahan.

Grasso has been a bit unfortunate. He left Brothers because Campbell came over (I think), then Jeeps had Frisby come through the rank then to the Reds. Everywhere he has gone, someone has always taken the lime-light. Coming to think of it he should have stayed at Brothers.

It's disappointing because he is a very good player and was Nudgee's best back in 07 or 08.

If I recall, Grasso actually came to GPS when Frisby was already a fringe Reds player. I think some people touted the move as odd due to that fact. Frisby ended up playing quite a few games at fullback when he was available in order to keep Grasso in the side.

IMO Christie was the superior halfback at GPS in 2014, when given his chances in Premier Grade. If another good half is coming to the club then surely if guys are looking for consistent minutes in Prem Grade they will go elsewhere.

Christie was one of the best when Jeeps beat Brothers at Yoku Rd this year.

I really think Jeeps are in a very strong position heading into next year.

You've got plenty of front-rowers, good locks, a decent back-row, good young halves combo, awesome centre pear and a quick back-three.

I really can't see why Jeeps can't make the final next year, I understand they're several factors.

I've just experienced the most horrible, horrific and horrendous thought of a GPS v University Grand-Final. It'd be a case of who do you hate less. Let's just hope Brothers get in to make it redeemable.

I like your optimism Filth but I have a feeling the Gallopers may have missed their chances in 2013/14. With some major personnel changes happening at the club, most likely resulting in some player movements, it may be another year or so before things settle down again.

Also judging by current NRC performances it may be a while before Frisby, Kerevi and Kuridrani are all playing down at Yoku together again.

I have no doubt the boys will be sniffing around the top 4 in 2015 but probably not as confident as previous years that they can take it out.

That just isn't true. I'm pretty sure a few clubs have paid the money.

Filth I was well aware that your shot related to the '08 GF but if McKibbin had kicked that penalty you would have Avery different view of that game.

As for Grasso maybe a return to Crosby could be in order. Will Dave Campbell run around in 2015 - he's a quality #9 & leader.

you will find that Grasso left brothers to take up an offer from Todd Dammers to play for Sydney Uni. Unfortunately he had a horror run with injuries that year and played few if any games. He returned to play for GPS as he was being managed by Picone. Campbell returned from playing in Ireland and found himself in reserve grade at wests. He found that his old crew that won the '06 premiership had mostly disappeared so he went to brothers to play with his former school mates. What a pick up for Brothers.

On the topic of Dammers, it will be interesting to see how many players he does bring in. Some people closer to the sources have suggested that Dammers has always coached with solid cattle and an open cheque book (Nudgee, Sydney uni - DOR, Japan and Spain) all on the back of knowing Todd Louden and having free reign on players he wanted coming in. If Picone takes a lot of players away to Souths and the core of reserve grade leave, I think it will be a real test of his coaching ability if he and Herbert don't see eye to eye on things.

I've found with Rugby the link between school and senior club is greater than the Jnr and Snr club. I played at Kenmore when I was very young but when I attended Terrace I started playing at Ascot Clayfield (I refuse to call it anything else). Probably 80% of my school year played at UQ and 50% of the juniors at Ascot Clayfield went to play at UQ. That exact trend continued for about 4 years with said school and club. I put this down to from about year 8/9 onwards most people tend to only play Rugby for their school. They therefore become tighter with that group rather than people they player rugby with until u13s.
