I've been hassling them to publish the game times on the website but apparently that's too difficult.

Really intrigued by some of the lineups for round 1. Brothers looks a very weakend and young team with 20's and Reds A players missing.

Norths seem to have a very young team, front row especially, those 2 boys were standouts in the colts comp last seaons and very unlucky not to be in that 20s squad, so a point to prove for them no doubt.

Interesting to see the Wests lineup. Pat Byron has obviously done some recruiting with Danaher, a lower grader at brothers coming across. Very interested to know how he got hold of Sam Caslick and George Morseau (both former uni players with prems experience), if he gets the best out of those two, wests could ruffle a few feathers. Gillespie and Greene are big losses. Greene could perhaps have shown more loyalty to the club who gave him a go originally, at another club last year, he perhaps may have spent most of the year in colts.

Lachy Duncan starting at 10 for Bond, former Aus schoo boy from TSS and possibly one of the few coast boys who has stuck around post colts, Im sure he'll be on the Tigers radar soon enough though. Great prospect.

All in all makes for an interesting round 1.

Re the point about Brothers - anyone else here old enough to remember the days when 1st grade sides consisted of mostly 23yo+ men and the absence of U20 players didn't have a huge effect? Aaahh the nostalgia of old age!

And Wests - I'd imagine Byron got hold of Sam and George the regular way - a phone call or two. It may have helped that Sam's sister Charlotte - now a 7s superstar - has been playing at Wests for a while.

I think I remember Devyn Smith at Uni as well (although not in Prem Grade) and I think Ben Wedlock is running around at the Bulldogs too? Is Pete Uebergang injured at the moment, or is he having a run in Reggies? And is that Morea Pease ("Peace" in the program) who was an Easts reserve grade player/fringe Prem player in 2013?

Anyone from Wests able to give me a heads up on the available burger and beer combo deal tomorrow? Albany Creek's $10 for a burger and 500mL Heineken will take a lot of beating.

Lachey Duncan couldn't land the #10 jersey in prem colts for the best part of last year, talented player but not prem grade level at a competitive club. Eason was far more robust.

The player got a head knock and was too dazed on the field to rule out potential neck injury. Brothers medical staff were fantastic in not moving him initially, and immobilising his neck. Basic and essential protocols were adhered to.

Cases like these are why we (medical-related people) take precautions that can seem over the top and they almost always are. Almost. And cases like these are why the colour of the jersey someone is wearing doesn't really matter a single bit.

Cat_A another great piece on the quality of people involve in Qld Rugby.

It is not great that the young lad has to experience this but great to see he was cared for professionally and is now on the road to recover.

Yes that is Morea PNG national & Churchie OB. I think the move to Wests was an endeavour to play Prem Grade because he has ambitions to represent PNG.

Does anyone know anything about the Sydney Uni side?

Not household rugby names but I'm sure that they are going to be quite tough, but the longer the Tigers stick with them the more likely they'll lose interest and as the Bottomley crowd gets behind the team they'll grow in stature and desire.

There is a real desire at the club to repeat the 2009 result, and send Sydney Uni packing with the tail between their legs. (Sorry no pun intended with tail - Tigers Tale)

Tell ya what, with all the extra rep stuff going on, depth will surley be developed this season. Short term it'll suck not seeing your clubs best players week in week out, but come next year the talent pool will be much better for it.

I'm going to miss seeing Gunny smash people and Jonah do freakish things on a regular basis though. Two incredible talents, and that's not just through my blue/yellow glasses.

Easts were good today and probably a little unlucky not to snatch it at the death, all looks in order for a tough clash with with Souths in the traditional local derby. Easts do not look as though they are suffering any hang over and will be very keen after today to kick the season off with a win v the Magpies.

I think you've raised a very valid point about Sunnybank, TT. However, today in areas, specifically when spreading the ball from side to side they were dangerous. I'm definitely not going to write them off at this stage. They were a bit ordinary at the breakdown I thought, Bros got several pilfers in the game. Rex Tapuai played well I thought. Strong ball carries from the front-rowers, but I think errors and the breakdown really cost them. I know Jets will think differently, but I thought Bros deserved the win.

What about Easts, anyone star?
