Anyone with knowledge of Uni rugby able to comment on what Anthony Mathison is doing? Latest word from GPS is he applied for our Premier Grade Coaching position. Apparently Shane Arnold is still going to be involved as well but in a smaller capacity.

Apparently also was in the frame for Brothers

Cant comment on Brothers but i'm fairly sure GPS finalized their coaching staff for colts and grades today so will know more in the coming days.

Big clean out down at Yoku with virtually all new coaches across the club from what I hear.

Easts put up a training squad on their website, with none of our Reds squad members.

Good to see the Cox boys names there, and Greg Riley going at it again.

With no Parraka, Ready, Gunn and UJ named, it might indicate that they are involved in the Reds College/Academy.

Andrew Manu listed as centre? #2 to #12 is a risky move! Understand his throw isn't great but surely it's easier to work on than this?

Manu is wasted at hooker. His damaging ball running, footwork and surprisngly good ball skills will be much better suited to the centres. Look forward to watching his transition and feel sorry for any aspiring centres at the club.

What's his measurements these days?
I thought he played flanker at the national schoolboys trials a few years ago?
Is he a too short to make a good fist at at 6?

My guess would be around 185cm, so probably a tad short. If he was fit enough though he could easily don the 7 jersey. Easts are lacking opensides...

I was only joking about lacking of 7s, there is an abundence.

No doubt Manu is a good hooker, but would love to see him in a bit more space where he can take full advantage of his strength, footwork and believe it or not speed. There's probably no future for him at centre in premier rugby, but in colts I think he could be devastating.

It will be interesting to see how the Brad Wilkin hype plays out next year. I haven't seen the kid play, is he a legitimate Premier Grade option? Regardelss, he's got a tough act to follow after Gunn's debut season and can't see him pushing Gunny for a start. If I was him, or any other flanker at the club for that matter, I would be praying that the Reds take a shot on Gunny this year and that he doesn't see much playing time with Easts.

Tigers have some great depth in the backrow so not sure opportunities will come along too easily. In saying that, Wilken is better now then Gunn was at this time last year. He obviously flourished at a rapid rate & had an exceptional year for an 18yo. I'd say a Reds EPS is on its way.

I also heard Wilken might spend some time with the Aust 7's?

That's interesting, is he as athletic as Gunn? If they're looking at him for 7s then I guess he must be close. Keeping in line with my love affair with Gunn though (strictly based on footballing ability I promise), I think he too could be a real talent in that form of the game if he doesn't get picked up in the near future.

I believe Wilken played Aust 7's @ the Australian Youth Olympic Feastival earlier this year.

Wilken should go to Souths, too many open sides at Easts and they are going through a strong period at the moment. It'd be a bit like George Smith v Phil Waugh at Easts in regards to the Openside position in Premier Grade, with both of them.

Also heard University and Wests have got quite a few of the Grammar XV down there for next year.

Which BGS boys have Wests got? Not sure those boys will enjoy getting towelled up week after week...

Latest out of GPS is that because Shane Arnold will only be involved with Aus20s in an assistant capacity he will continue to operate as head coach of Premier Grade. Shane Drahm (I think thats his name) has moved from Brothers and been appointed head coach of Reserve Grade.

Also friend of mine said he spotted Phil Mooney in Brisbane today. Is Japanese rugby season over? Anyone know if he'll be heading down to help Wests out?

Post for information purposes only I'm not getting back in the game lads - Tiger to lead Wallabies at Twickenham this Saturday.

Yes we proudly claim Ben as a Tiger and he still has strong links to the club.

Before that old string starts again - do Uni still claim Big Kev & Sqweeky Moore as Students?

Just one to get some tongues wagging - I've hear that Easts could field two of the fastest men in Australian Rugby on their wings for a few games next year. Depending on S15 & 7s commitments.
