In 2011 Easts lost 4 games - i.e. had 14 wins the same number as the minor premiers(Uni) and one more than the 2nd(Bros), 3rd(Snbk) & 4th(GPS) placed teams (13 wins) - yet missed out on the semis.

I am not crying poor Easts I am just saying that you can't afford to be lazy in the first half of the year and then expect to bring it home later in the season when the horse might have already bolted.

On reflection, you're probably right, TT. However, with Souths and Sunnybank underperforming this year thus far, Easts have a wee bit of breathing space. I wouldn't be too worried.

Filth I am not worried we have 3 pretty easy games ahead over the next 3 weeks GPS, Bros & Snbk(!!!!) followed by Bond, Souths, Wests, Norths - we win all of them and we'll then start to get Placid & Gunn back and then we'll get Turner, Toua, Quirk back just in time for the semis!!

How are your Ladies Day preparations going? - will Matho be wearing Pink on the day??

Perhaps he might be! Good, quite a few will turn up for the game. Good luck against GPS.

Above is the first time I've ever seen a Norths team coming first. It's good for the competition to see this, but hopefully the mighty Brev will upset the applecart.

Filth did you notice who is sitting on the bottom of the 2nd table with no points?

The performance of the lower grades at Easts must be a real concern for the Board. This isn't just something of a 2014 phenominum this goes back a number of seasons. Prem Reserves are currently sitting in the top 4 for the first time in about 4 years.

The reserves win last weekend was a cracker. They are doing well, especially given a lot of players moving in and out every week.

Let's just say veterans of the Premier grade comp will recognise more than a few faces in Norths 2nd grade, Filth.

Yes Cat, that Norths 2nd grade is essentially the same team which won the 2012 4th Grade Premiership at GPS, had a few issues at Yoku lately so decided to head over to Norths. Can't see them losing many games this year.

I've often thought reserve grade premierships are the hardest to win- the side is surely the least stable in ANY club, unless finals are out of reach for both Prem grade and 1st grade (formerly known as 2nd grade).

Us old fellas have got to play somewhere :)

It has been great for our club having some new faces around. Injecting some enthusiasm and of course allowing our playing group numbers to increase, so much so that we are able to field a 3rd grade side for the first time in a very long time. (respective grade)

AGM was last night, a BRAND NEW committee was elected with a real focus on the future and not dwelling or living in the past. A lot of these new committee members have been involved in the club at various levels but have been unable to get involved for a few reasons.
Now they have the opportunity and everyone is excited.

There is a real commitment to bring the club up to the level we need to be, to be a successful club for not only the short term, but 10+ years.

Things are going well down at Shaw Road off the field for the first time in a very long time and I do hope our on field results across the board will start to show this.

We are making steps in the right direction, which is a real positive for us, and the players are aware that you don't get to the top of the 'ladder' by jumping up from the ground. It needs to be stable, and you need to take it one rung at a time.

Cat_A - is James Herbert injured or just been pushed out due to Kerevi & Jonhson?

Has Zangary been put on the wing as a specialist goal kicker?

Jets I notice one A Anae is listed in the dragons #2 for this weekend - you must be happy to see him pull on the green jersey again?

TT - I think you'll find Herbert has been pushed out due to Johnson and Kerevi coming back and therefore should be starting in Premier Reserve.

Strange selection of Zangari on the wing. Im fairly sure Sam Johnson is the first choice goal kicker so it wouldn't be for that.

Also does anyone know who Paul Brown is? I know he plays at my club but I have no idea...

Sorry Big Dog - I meant to address this query to you not Cat_A as the finger on the pulse GPS guy on this forum!

It will be a willing contest this weekend - the Easts backline should perform a bit better than it has been with the inclusion of UJ Seuteni @ 12.

That will mean that only 8 of the Easts side started in last year's GF - Paraka, Sanday, Enever, Mullins, Brandon, Wilder, UJ, White.

And for GPS I think it is only 4 - Kite, Ellis, Zangari & Kerevi.

This game has nothing to do with 2013 but it is an important result for both clubs from a 2014 perspective.

I have no idea who Paul Brown is? I thought you had some young gun half back in your colts? Clearly Sam Grasso has moved on now - is that right?

Cat_A => what is now 1st grade was most recently referred to as 2nd grade but back in the good old days it was 3rd grade - which is exactly what it should be called and Colts 1 should be called Colts 2.

So in Grades you have Prem, Prem Res, 3rd, 4th, etc

In Colts you have Prem Colts, Colts 2, Colts 3.

I know I am old fashioned but doesn't this just make sense and people can understand what you are talking about - the worst one at Easts with mixing the names of the teams up is Pat Richards.

To be honest TT I don't know who Tom Christie @9 is either?! Haha good clubman I am.

The young gun colts halfback you speak of is most likely James 'Bobby' Tuttle who is playing 10 for Prem Colts at the moment, I think he was an Aussie Schoolboy player in 2013. Fairly handy player but i'd be expecting the first GPS colts to move up to Prem Grade to be Campbell Magnay the center, apparently he's been killing since he started playing a few weeks ago.

RugbyReg - Marco has been great for the club this year, brings a great sense of professionalism to the team and is one of the loudest and most aggressive players I've seen in a while. I think we have the Smith twins to thank for sending him our way.

Big Dog enjoy Ladies Day I hope you make lots of money for charity but I hope Easts come away with the points we need them.

The GPS v Easts game at Yoku was a thriller last year lets hope both teams put on a similar game but with a different result. I think it was late tries to DK and Frisby that killed the tiger last year.
