So Ready being away with the 20's will have a big impact on the Tigers. I think it's between him and Maile for an EPS spot at the Reds. Whoever is the starting 2 for the 20's probably has front running for the spot.

Haven't seen Ready play, a least haven't watched him closely, so wouldn't want to make a call. I've been really impressed with Maile and how he dealt with playing Premier straight from school.

I have seen Ready play (not this year) and found him solid but not outstanding. But by all reports he has really stepped up.

I haven't any of Maile though.

How big would you say the lad is?

& East Coast Aces how big is ready these days?

What about Mitchell Wade?

He came to the Bulldogs (before he left for the Gallopers) with a supposed half decent résumé, part of an academy? Could he be in line for a EPS position?

Doubt it he is playing reserves for GPS and was less than impressive in the norths trial

Speaking of hookers who deserve a run in Super XV, what about Andrew Coady? Musashi Prize pack winner twice last year I think. Regardless of the bias, I would put him in before anyone else, if chibs or saia go.

"For all of the class of the Easts backline I really feel that their forwards have been weak for the last two weeks and unlike last week the backs couldn't compensate against a worthy GPS backline.[/quote]

Sorry but cannot agree with that.

Just quietly, what happened to the Breakers today? Put up the white flag?
Stallion it wasn't so much white flag just purely imploded! I think they are being short changed by some of their more experienced players who just are not pulling their weight out on the park! They were in the game for most of the first half but a couple of costly mistakes and the game was as good as gone as heads went down and senior leadership went missing

So how do they dish out these academy spots & how frequent?

It's very surprising to me that Mitchell Wades last 3 clubs he has had trouble solidifying his spot as the undisputed premier grade hooker, is the ARU going to keep giving time to this flanker project turned hooker?

I wouldn't be surprised if GPS unleash Wade this weekend against his former club, but with Saia Faangina in no way figuring into any of the wallabies mix there should be a good dose of Wade in reserves this season!

PS: I think j.Butler could be a good flanker turned hooker project. Not quite tall enough to be a line out option for me & not quite scavenging enough like Gill or Beau to be a menace at the breakdown. Butler is a strong ball runner and looks like he has phenomenal strength with that frame of his. But I don't know if they prefer stocky/short hookers, who is the tallest hooker going around? I could def see him playing hooker at the next level. (Dependent of him being able to add another 10-20kg)

After the National Academy trials this year Wade was selected for the combined Academy team behind Hugh Roach for the Pacific Rugby Cup matches. Wade then got the number 2 spot for the Queensland based academy, Maile went and played for Force A and Ready played for the Reds College so we got to see all three perform at higher level.

Wade is better than Ready but it's very tight between Wade and Maile as to the next best outside the current Reds squad.

How old is coady i got the impression from previos comments that he is a little on the grey side

I don't know Thierry, but for the Reds to over-look him is unfair, he is a good player.

I definetly agree that Coady has been one of the best Hookers in the comp for a number of years. I was surprised when The Rebels signed Tessman a few years back and think Coady is a better option. Rebels obviously didn't think Tessman was worth keeping as I doubt the Force chased him as first choice when they have Nathan Charles, a future Wallaby Hooker.

I have thought Wade to be a good Prem Grade player but never got the impression he was upto the next level.

I don't know the age of any of these players nor do I care. Harvey and the Force copped alot of flack but I thought he was a good example of picking older players to have a crack at the next level. Not everything needs to be about building for the future, lets just win this week and go from there.

And SouthernX I have no idea what your talking about. Butler at 186cm is 1cm taller then Latimer. Whilst he is the same height has Stephen Moore (who is taller then most Aussie props) he is a dominant baller runner with an offload and plenty of speed (i.e. can defend wide of the ruck). These are not player attributes of a hooker you need. It is much more suited to the 6 and 8 position.

Only 1 of your backrowers needs to be a geniune (not part time) lineout option and in the reds they have this more so from Shatz, Quirk and Samo.

East Coast Aces At the time, Rebels wanted Tessmann because he was a "front rower"- he had played prop almost exclusively at Uni, then at Eastwood I think he went to hooker almost full-time. The Rebels wanted one person on a bench who could cover the 2 specialist positions. And on the bench he stayed.

Crusher Do you think the four day turnaround was a factor for the Breakers at all?

Also Tessman isn't exactly young. I played grades with him almost 10 years ago so he must be around 28 now.

Agree about Butler though. He's not worth shifting to hooker as he's developing quite well as a backrower and it would take a few years to make the transition and he'd probably end up being a solid club player. He has potential to play as a ball running 7. Think he'd suit a South African team to be honest.

Probably not the place for this but how good was the TSS team that had Wade, Butler, Simmons, Slipper, Lance, Morahan x2, Taps, Swaneploe etc. Tatsy Taylor as coach too.

Agreed- Tessmann is the same age as Moore, Mitchell, McMeniman et al. He's been around some blocks.
