Just of curiosity TT, which club do you dislike most? I get different vibes each week?

So I congratulate GPS on a fine win and install them as favourites and that equates to my dislike of them - please!

From the form of previous seasons Easts have to win the Grand Final this weekend. Many questioned why Mullins was named captain of the Easts team but the coaching staff have picked up on the trend. If you want to win the Premier Grade Grand Final you need to have a captain that went to Terrace. in the last 8 years almost all of the captains have been from Terrace.

As a GPS supporter i'm feeling more confident rather than nervous after yesterday's win, despite the result of the semi final the previous week. I doubt Easts will be able to keep GPS tryless again if Samu plays to his potential.

Gorman faces the judiciary tonight I believe but word is the club has conceded he probably won't be playing in the Final after the red card a few weeks ago.

Seems to be a very good year at the club with Premier, Reserves, 3rds and 4ths all playing in Grand Finals this weekend.

Interesting observation Jets (I don't know whether entirely accurate though) - can you fill in the gaps in the list below?

Where did Jono Ellis,GPS Captain (& good guy) go to school?

As for whether Mullins should be the Easts captain - I didn't think you were allowed to question other clubs on this forum?

I think the Easts Team/Coaches rest easy with this decision. Easts have strong leadership capacity given Luke Bertini (2011 Capt) & Matt Brandon(2012 Capt) play support roles to Mullins. Mullins was Captain of GT(2006), Easts Prem Colts Grand Finalist (2008), and is well respected by his peers and all at the club - so it came as no major surprise at Easts when he was given the gong this year.

Easts have three survivors from their 2008 Premiership side in Bertini, Brandon & Lachlan Walker(Bench) in their current squad. The GPS side is not without experience and leadership capacity in Ellis, Frisby, Kite, etc

Tigers Tale you're allowed to question other clubs as long as you aren't just slinging mud in the hope that it sticks.

I'm not questioning if Mullins should be captain. If you look back in this forum people questioned why he was captain at the start of the year when it seemed that others made the decisions on the field. It was pointed out that he is great value on the drink and fits into the Easts culture (this is me taking the piss and should not be taken too seriously).

As for my comment about the Terrace captain issue it was just something that was mentioned to me. I notice 4 of the last 8 went to Terrace. If anyone could clarify who the other captains were it would clear it up. I may have exaggerated a little.

If Easts do win I'm sure all the other clubs will make sure that they have a Terrace old boy as captain, just in case it's a factor.

We really need a sarcasm font for this forum.

The thing is Jets - I think we are more similar than you think - I too say things here simply to see who bites - I wish fishing was this easy!!

Tim Sampson `- captain of Sunnybank's 2007 side is now the backs coach at Easts - fine player, fine human being. fine coach.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Adam Wallace-Harrison and Tim team up somewhere down the track as a coaching double act.

AWH might have been worth considering for the Reds job that Stiles was given without any application process. Surely a Mick Heenan, or a Pat Richards should have been given an opportunity to apply for such a role. I don't know whether either of them would want the role but at least they would appear to have been involved in more successful sides than Stiles has been over the last 5 years. Good luck to Stiles - I hope he has the Reds forwards firing when Feb 2014 rolls around, and I will happily be proven wrong.

Did he play Juniors at GPS - if so thay would be a great thing for both GPS & Easts to have their sides lead out by true Juniors of their respective clubs.

I know he definitely played at GPS for Colts so I can only presume he was there since juniors.

I think Wests 2006 captain was John Roe, I'm probably wrong, would have to get SouthernX on this one to confirm.

Stiles coached professionally in Japan & was a interim coach at the force last year.

Do you know for a fact that there was no selection process or did you just feel the need to put your precious Pat Richards on a pedalstil?

Gorman? the 2nd rower got off, so he is able to play the GF on the weekend. Everything is going smoothly for Gps. Can anyone from Jeeps tell us if there is a positive vibe like at Easts at the moment about winning?

Did he use the same defence as Mr Carter - second intentional action against Easts this year and both culprits walk free serving only the mandatory week. Easts will be happy to see him on the GPS 15. No complaints lets get on with it.

Yes job not put to Qld based coaches. I only used Heehan & Richards because they are prem grade prem coaches from past seasons still in system. I'd be happy for someone like Pat Byron to work his way from Prem grade to the Reds.

How well did Stiles team in Japan go? I heard that Kef had to go back and clean things up.

In regards to Nick Stiles, I would say that I think it is pretty unfair assessment to say that he didn't deserve his crack.

After 90 off QLD caps and 10 odd Test Caps his coaching career started

- DOR of UQ
- Forwards Coach Kubota
- Head Coach Kubota
I think this was a 5 year period, then returned to the Force as assistant coach.
He is a Queenslander through and through and while the Force weren't a success during his period, the forwards as a group improved, you can't ask for more than from an assistant coach.

I would say that he is more prepared than 2 part time coaches. Nick won't win many popularity contests out there, hell I have heard the saying that even his mum doesn't like him! But this is a profession and not a popularity contest...

Didn't QLD go down the pathway of appointing from within previously?Mark McBain, Jeff Miller, Andrew Slack, Damon Emtage, Phil Mooney...All did not serve any type of professional rugby apprenticeship and look where that landed the state rugby system... In tatters!

Let's hope that Stilesy goes well and is a success as we have a young pack who will need an experienced coach at that level!

I have no drama with there being no selection process for the forwards coach job.. If you take into account there was no selection process for the head coach job.

Back to the Grand-Final.
I went back to the past games between GPS and Easts this year. The results were:
20/04/13 Easts 20 lose to GPS 29 at Easts
29/06/13 GPS 38 win over Easts 33 at GPS
Semi Final 24/08/13 Easts 21 win over GPS 6

When Uni played GPS in the preliminary final last weekend, it was a close game until Uni lost their full back yellow carded for 10 minutes for a shoulder charge just before half time.
In that 10 minutes, GPS scored two tries and were never in doubt of winning for the remainder of the match. So what?

In the previous weeks' game, the semi final between GPS & Easts, GPS's lock Gorman was red carded for a large part of the game. Was this the major reason for GPS's loss to Easts?

In the grand-final, assuming that both sides don't lose any players to the sin bin, the past performances would have to favor GPS to take the pennant.
But then again, it's really a case of which side is the hungriest on the day.
