QLD GPS Rugby 2021

NC defeated Churchie but the score didn't really tell the true picture. NC number 10 Smith controlled the game very well. For all the hype, due to covid the game was bit of a fizzer. Churchie kicking game was very poor. Line kicks were popguns, general play was not much better and the goal kicking was nil. NC just completed their sets and Churchie fluffed their final plays, when they had the opportunity. Both Coaches would be disappointed with how their teams played. Best on field was NC 10, Churchie 8 and Churchie 5. These two boys were everywhere. Dam shame Covid was about while I think NC would still have won, I suspect it would have been a toss of a coin.

If you think that was bad-the BBC v IGS match was shambolic. More stoppages than a UFC night.

Can anyone shed some light on the new GT number 8? Is he related to NRL player Jayden Sua?
I hear he is in grade 10.-by grade 12 he will the best player in the comp IMO.
Where was he before GT ?=Mr Perpetual Motion

There was a very good Sunnybank backrower in the mid 2000s that scored a hell of a lot of tries and was in the Reds squad for perhaps a couple of seasons.

PJ is his son.

Yep, James Sua was a man mountain. Was in the Reds squad for a few years but never cemented himself at the next level. Was devastating for the Dragon's when they were one of the top teams in the comp.

And he has put his hand up to coach , currently helping out the GT 15b's, which is great to see.

AGGREGATE GPS 'Team of the week' members by team through rounds 1,2,3 according to @qldgpsrugby on Instagram
NC: 17
TSS: 9
BBC: 5
ACGS: 4
GT: 4
BGS: 2
BSHS: 1
TGS: 1
IGS: 1

Another thing to note is that Byron Smith and Robert Toia are the only players to make the team all three weeks.

After playing both ACGS and BBC nudgee recorded 52 wins and 5 losses. A 91% win rate against ACGS and BBC. Scary times ahead for the GPS
Though on the upside two of those losses were against the 14As and 15As for Churchie. From what I can gather NC were far more 'match ready' than Churchie post the covid break. Am not sure the results would have been so strong in a 'normal' year

I expect TSS to (stop Toia) and beat NC at home on Saturday. I will be there.
I expect GT to lose next 2 matches -so NC/BBC /TSS /ACGS will all finish with one loss.
Toia scored 2 tries and set up another v BBC and ACGS. I don't think he will do that against Kaleb N.
Just shows how good the BBC effort was against NC. Only 2 players still at school in 2021 have been signed to Super Rugby contracts (Annan/Hough) and BBC played without Annan at all & most of match without Hough v NC. Put those 2 back in and they beat NC by 12.

That’s a real surprise prediction there CJ

Actually - I am pretty confident. It was a bad day at the office v ACGS. everything went wrong
But I agree with what someone else said- what NC have coming through in 16/15/14 s is frightening.
I will not be surprised if they win 3 in a row from 2022.
Footnote. Rob Toia's cousin is starting in under 15 at NC next year- and they say he is better than RT.' holy shit

A rob toia - jack howarth run it straight would be lethal

Lethal in the fact that Rob Toia would sustain a career ending shoulder injury haha... There's a 2 year age gap between them, not to mention Howarth is currently in the Melbourne Storm's top 30 side. Whilst he'll leave at the end of the year, it would have been great to witness Toia in grade 12.

Final Scores:

NC 42 - TSS 15 (Did not expect this massive blowout)
BSHS 24 - BBC 20 (What an upset for BBC!)
ACGS 31 - GT 29 (Terrace came mighty close and certainly proved that they can contend with the big boys, congratulations to Churchie for getting a much needed W after their loss against Nudgee)
TGS 7 - IGS 5 (An extremely close game that I expected Toowoomba to dominate)

Nudgee were too good, and too strong at the fish bowl lats afternoon. While TSS shut down Toia, Oscar Boyd and the Nudgee back row dominated. It was a masterclass for the first 30 mins of the first half. Clear unofficial champs this year!
