A lot of people talking ACGS up this year-it will be very interesting v NC. I say NC by 20.

It will be fitting if BBC win well tomorrow -they are the only school not to lose a trial or a match-and lets face it the trials were real matches -certainly that R1 match between TSS v NC- that i was at -was treated as a real match. As was the r2 matches.

Hey Countryjack. I haven’t seen too many people talking up Churchie. Whilst they have been reliable for a contest, (apart from the red card jokes at Gt,)Nudgee have been the more solid outfit and should have an easy finish to the season running over the top of a smaller pack , with Churchie’s less fleet footed backs. Nudgee forward pack have in my opinion , still not come up against a truely well drilled pack and that has been the secret of Churchie s success. Still their well drilled pack , will not be sufficient and Nudgee should run away with it. They should be brimming with confidence.

It would only be if Churchie decides to dish out Another stubborn viking spirited, Jack “loss” style shock defeat to Nudgee , but on main oval, i think that magnificent playing surface of that ground ( hats off to the groundsman for the finest playing surface other than maybe the Gabba in Qld ) plays right into the hands of the Nudgee backs and at the 60 min mark they should have a field day.

Still something tells me there is some surprises left in this season with one round left. I won’t write the Vikings off but expect an easy Nudgee win. Congrats BBC- at least I can say that with certainty.

The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that Rugby, for lack of a better word, is good. Rugby is right. Rugby works. Rugby clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Rugby, in all of its forms, Rugby for life, for money, for love, knowledge, has marked the upward surge in mankind and Rugby, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called Rugby Australia. Thank you very much.

A Team looks into the Abyss and sees nothing staring back at them. At that moment a Team finds its character. And that is what keeps them out of the Abyss

I tend to agree with Cruiser. Churchie are quite solid but I think Nudgee have a bit more steel (Anacott) to their pack and their back line is very strong, albeit BBC worked out how to turn them after about 33 minutes last Saturday. This should be a good game nonetheless, and like what Magnus the Viking did to the English when he fronted up on their turf, Nudgee will go there to dominate.

Terrace have shown pretty good form this season, as well as being consistent and so I'm going to go with them over Ippy. I'm not confident of this pick as Ippy do have some dangerous weapons but Terrace have been consistently good.

Brissie Gammar should be proud of their form this season. Hopefully they build on this for next season. I think they will do Toowoomba.

State school seem to be hitting some form at the moment and I think they will rough up the BBC boy's Justin Bieber style haircuts, but I think BBC are too professional, too determined, too well drilled and too good to drop this game. They deserve the outright Premiership and they will take home the Cup on Friday. I think they were the better team than both Nudgee and TSS and so they deserve sole custody of the Premiership cup at BBC for the next 12 months......until Nudgee take it back in 2021!

Spot on and good luck to all teams hopefully no injuries in the last round - it’s been an enjoyable and close competition - BBC lucky to get the win last week saved by an ankle tap and a few great defensive efforts really.

I have watched the TTS V NUDGEE in the wet on Jack “ Loss” oval tonight and between the 51 and 57 minute mark TSS scored three tries to completely over run NUDGEE in the 60 min trial. The facts are the NUDGEE forwards were out petrol and regularly late to the breakdown and could not go with the obvious fitness of the TSS pack. A second observation was their line out which was an glaring weakness. I don’t think it’s improved much.

Dial forward to last Saturday, and BBC put the accelerator down at the 50 min mark, and it was all over. NUDGEE bought on reserves and obviously had improved match fitness since TSS, but once again the forward pack looked out of juice around 50 min , and were called on to defend their line in the last 10-20 minute, with that kitchen sink being thrown at them. They defended valiantly but took big punishment from the waves of BBC raids right on the line. I was tired just watching them.

With tomorrow being the next game (Friday) they have only had 6 days rather than the usual 7 to nurse their bumps and bruisers and a big game like last Saturday would suck a lot of nervous energy in the lead up, the tough game ,a hard season and largely a pointless game against Churchie tomorrow . In their minds , last week was the grand final and they lost so ,might not be ON for the game.

Churchie on the other hand has a lightweight, very fit and mobile and possibly the best drilled forward pack in the competition. They took both TSS AND BBC ( in the wet) to the line , proving more than a handful. We will put Gt down as one of those days, but they have handled the IGS pack with ease, and I cannot name another pack that gave them trouble.Tomorrow it will be 27 degrees, but 30 plus on main oval with moisture evaporating. My reading is , if ACGS can stay in the game early and absorb the initial NUDGEE onslaught, the 50 min mark will prove the test for NUDGEE and I will predict seeing hands on hips and knees, cramps in hamstrings, and last to line outs from the big forward pack.

The NUDGEE pack are not to be trifled with, but they are No energiser bunnies. The Churchie back loose three are fast and super fit , and in the Liam Wright , David Pocock mould. The School has demonstrated they can produce them. That’s a massive psychological advantage they will have when the clock ticks 50 min.

If those three, can starve the NUDGEE backline, and the big Churchie centres get off the defensive line fast and hassle the questionable hands, of the NUDGEE mid field, they maybe able to nullify Nudgees obvious pace on the wings/flanks.

Knowing the temperature and humidity tomorrow, I think fitness will be a test, and if NUDGEE can put a cricket score on CHURCHIE after what they went through against BBC 6 days ago, I think they will definitely deserve second, cos it won’t be that easy.

If however Churchie win, I think Like last year they will be classed the dark horses , finishing either Joint Premiers or 2nd with Southport. Have a think about that.

Igs v Gt . I think IGS is due a win although Gt have been the improvers. They are however a one man band with VAHU ??? Spelling sorry? Being head and shoulders above in class, vs the rest of the team. Igs should hold their heads high and take on GT with the confidence and swagger they showed before the NUDGEE game. They look like a confidence team - when they are confident they are hot, when the lose confidence they are not. IGS forward to much to handle for Gt - igs by 14

BBC v BSHS - my heads say BBC My heart says BSHS. May the GHOST OF WALLY LEWIS shine on BSHS . BBC by 40

BGS v TGS - BGS is a better team than wooden spoon. TGS impressed against BBC and demonstrated that they too have a good team bubbling underneath. BGS has the attitude to avoid the spoon and beat Tgs on their day, but it won’t be their day. TGS 7

TSS- WAXING THEIR BOARDS AND CHEERING ON BSHS and CHURCHIE for a slice of premiership. It won’t happen. congrats BBC.

The Churchie captain George Stoddart has good rugby pedigree too with his old man having played rugby when he was at Nudgee in the 1980s.

Nudgee made a couple of defensive errors both sides of the half and were held up 5 or so occasions over the line by BBC, which is not to take away from BBCs win, but rather reflects how determined they were to win. I think BBC also had slightly better fitness in the closing ten minutes. It was close in a way, but it was also calculated, patient and dominant when it needed to be by BBC. It really needed an extraordinary game and effort to beat this Nudgee team. I don't know to be honest if Churchie has this extra high octane in their rugby tank to roll Nudgee, but Churchie's one advantage could be their state of mind for this match. If Churchie win, and BBC lose and they share the Premiership. Nudgee will be deflated after last week and will need to climb a hill to get back to where they need to be mentally for this grudge match. Should hopefully be an entertaining match and good luck to Churchie.

Aussie Luke- George’s father was Tim Stodart from the Churchie 1987 1st 15 , is my mail. Happy to be corrected. George is one of the classy back three that will worry slow lumbering forwards. Him and Wilson are very under rated loose fowards imo as is the half back who has an obvious rugby brain.

I only said this as I read this in the CM story I post below re Stodartt. It could be a mistake at the CM, but it sounds like his old man went to Churchie rather than Nudgee from your account which is probably more accurate.

George Stoddart’s nine year rugby career at Anglican Church Grammar School will come to an end on Friday when Churchie try and douse St Joseph’s Nudgee College’s faint hopes of a joint First XV premiership.
Nudgee must beat Churchie and hope Brisbane State High School upset Brisbane Boys College to have any hope of sharing the title with BBC.

But 15 proud Churchie boys will be standing in their way, with Stoddart in the front line and his halfback Sam Farrar scheming around the fringes.
For captain and No. 8 Stoddart it will end a wonderful association with the college after he watched his brother play for the Firsts while also hearing stories about his go-getting father playing in the famous Nudgee colours during the 1980s.
“I have been with the Churchie rugby program since year four and it made me a much better player,’’ said Stoddart, an Easts rugby club junior.
“The resources, coaching staff, gym – it is a really good place to work on your rugby skills making you a better player and a man.’’

Farrar, who played Firsts last season with Stoddart, said Churchie was a professional and structured program which got the best out of the boys.
“It really maximises our abilities. The opportunities I got from coming to Churchie were immense.’’
Stoddart said he always remembered looking up to the 2014 team and wanting to don the same First XV jersey.
“As a young boy, you wanted to pull on the jersey, do the same thing they did,’’ Stoddart said.

Then there was a moment during lower secondary school when Stoddart realised the clock was ticking on his dream and that if he wanted to follow in the footsteps of brother Ben and dad Tim, he had to get cracking in the gym and on the training park.

“I realised I had to step up my rugby, work on getting bigger, work on getting stronger and try and get fit,’’ George said, noting he was inspired by his brother playing Firsts.
The result is an outstanding No. 8 who will again proudly lead by example when Churchie run onto the park for the final time in 2020 against Nudgee at Churchie.

What a joke that all first XV games are being live streamed this afternoon apart from the BSHS v BBC game

I would love to understand on what grounds the muppets who made the decision not to grant approval to live stream the game was made on

Good luck to all the teams playing this afternoon and especially to those young men who are pulling on their school jersey for the final time

BBC HM made another request this week to BSHS -but this was rejected.
You will have to make do with the Onion TV production on NC v BBC for the Appleby trophy..
Congrats to all teams for a great season and brilliant rugby under difficult circumstances. Finish strong.
