QLD GPS Rugby 2019

Seems a real issue across lots of schools that rugby numbers are well down. Soccer and Basketball numbers very strong. Really think the years of ARU, Wallabies and Reds disasters has taken its toll, as kids dont dream of being a wallaby these days! Throw in last years serious injuries and it all adds up to less kids wanting to play rugby. I really think the ARU or whatever they are called need to try and adopt the NZ schools model and try and enhance what is being done at school boy level. Need to get GPS rugby back in term 2, then go into a state based or regional comp for say under 15 and above with all teams playing for state and national honors (opens only) . Got to keep league out which is now being played at AIC schools in term 3. Might be too late for test now though, once it gets a foot in, will be hard to compete with!
Nz schools are struggling with participation numbers I believe and also big issues with some schools recruitment stacking teams. If coaches and selectors are doing their job well the cream gets the chance to rise to the top regardless of which school wins comp.

In a wrap up of the tipping season unfortunately All Over It tipped this weekend and won over all. A few people chased some upsets, hopeful that would get them over the line, but alas it didn't work.

Thanks all for being involved. Hopefully we can do it again in 2020, I'm thinking of making a few changes to make rounds like the last one more exciting. I ran a line in the Premier tipping comp about five years ago that worked quite well. Any feedback will be taken on too.

Well done All Over It. 30/36 is impressive in anyone's eyes, especially with two draws in the season.

For me the $64,000,000 question is not whether the best team won the comp(IMO -BBC were the best team I saw this year and if they played TSS 10 times would have won 9) but the real question is:
-how the hell did ACGS beat IGS at IGS on old boys day?

Very well said. I have real concerns

^ Honest answer, Churchie very good at playing tight, pick and drive style rugby, IGS aren't and it completely wears out their forwards.

But also what you get with IGS.

From memory lost to Churchie early in 2017 then turned around and beat TSS.

2018 nearly ( probably should have ) beat TSS at a stage in the season when they had very little joy.

Where are the GPS 2019 school leavers playing rugby next year? A few of the Nudgee boys tossing up between Brothers and UQ. Reesjan off to the Brumbies as we know.

I read Churchie only won a couple of games against Nudgee in the lower grades on Saturday. They used to be a lot stronger than this. The Nudgee 16As are very strong putting 45 points on Churchie. Not sure BBC or TSS 16As are very strong and so I think it will be Nudgee as strong favorites for the First XV again year. BBC lost to State High.

IGS had lost their big prop injured prio to the game and then lost their 1 and 2 before Half time. Walker played at 15 which kept him out of the frae for much of the 1st half. He moved to 10 in the 2nd and started to weave his magic. By that time the Churchie forrwards had taken control and won enough ball to stop IGS catching them. Only just...

In 20 years time when people look at the First XV results for 2019 and see that TSS were undefeated Premiers I wonder how many people will say "Oh yes but BBC were the better side". Seriously BBC supporters it might be a long time if you ever win an outright Premiership if you keep going with this drivel of "Look we didn't win but everyone knows we were the better side". Doesn't do much for the kids in the team's expectations either. Just accept it and front up next year. In 2018 TSS lost the Premiership in the last minute of play for the year at Nudgee..highly disappointing but bounced back in 2019. It happens.

Democracy in action.

For what it's worth, here were my votes and how they differed from the "consensus"

15. Dion Samuela
14. Trezman Banjo
13. Jack Howarth
12. Lukas Ripley
11. Hamish Roberts
10. Reesjan Pasitoa
9. Kalani Thomas
8. George Gibson
7. Ngiyaani Waters
6. Jock Thompson
5. Marlon Jones
4. Wilson Blyth
3. Zane Nonggorr
2. Harry Vousty
1. George Blake

I don't think the result was too badly schewed, in the end. Obviously the TSS boys got around their team but all the other schools had that option too.

Can somebody list the team selected for those that are not subscribed to the CM? Thanks.
