Today I went down to BBC to watch the 2 sides with all the hype - BBC 13A and Nudgee 14A . Let me tell you they did not disappoint.
The 1st xv game was poor.
The BBC 13A won 45 to nil and their back line is the best under 13 back line I have ever seen. Brilliant passing and running
The Nudgee 14A won 30 to 14 and played sensational attacking rugby. Speaking to a Nudgee parent the 3 new boys who came in this year Tau tau is a monster , Small a workhorse and the winger from Bundaberg is lightning.

Just shows you 4 broncos and a cowboy( Nudgee ) will beat 3 broncos( BBC)
Exciting juniors around.
Lots of mistakes in 1stxv match but Nudgees defence was brutal.

Yes, some great rugby from these boys - hopefully someone can get in their heads early at this stage of their schooling and make sure -
1 - they make the most of the opportunity that has been afforded to them at these schools; and
2 - someone in rugby secures them in rugby.
Unfortunately it appears all too often that these boys are only interested in a pathway to the NRL, and don't really give a rats about their school nor rugby.

And by the way, it was great to see the Nudgee U13A boys applauding the BBC boys today as they did their warcry - pity one of the more vocal Nudgee parents didn't take note - 45-0 isn't all the ref's fault mate !

Very happy for the college, but the logical side of me thinks that we should be selecting from the bigger and older Sydney GPS Schools if we are looking for a school that will win this.

I was in T'ba for a Christening and got to slip away to the 1st XV match. With a little bit of luck, this could have been Toowoomba's game. I was impressed at the way their forwards never gave up and just kept coming and coming. TGS backs handled well and looked dangerous on the flanks but some angle changes may have upset Churchie's jockeying cover. BBC, NC and TSS would be well served to get hold of the tape because TGS demonstrated very effectively that by having coordinated defence structures including very good talk and linespeed, Churchie can be pressured into error and put off their game. Perese was so well contained he was swearing his head off and gave away a stupid shoulder charge penalty which saw him binned for 10. Ponga scored one but was similarly contained for the most part. Churchie were shouting at each other and desperately looking for the page in the script where it says " Churchie turn up and put 50+ on a hapless opponent." TGS #1 seemed to delight in reminding Churchie that things were not going to plan. For me, the match got decided when Churchie scored with Perese off. Had TGS managed to get their aggressive pick and drive punching forward for a try at this time, there may have been much gnashing of teeth at East Brisbane, in fact such is the investment in the Churchie team I hear it actually affected the Dow Jones index. The lack of ACGS composure under this TGS blowtorch truly indicated that these guys are beatable - but it is something their opponents must believe and execute for 70 mins. So if NC are listening, (or TSS or BBC), pressure on Churchie 9 to slow down ball to the Churchie backs, short grubber kicks in behind the backline towards the sidelines with a good chase, esp towards Churchie #11's wing and, concentrate on front of lineout throws or short lineout structures with dummy jump decoys as Churchie contest full lineouts well at 4-6 through their #7 who stole a few. The simple thing is to play these guys as if they are 17-18 yo ( which they are) and therefore liable to make errors when pressured or drawn into displays of machismo which distract them from their game, despite all the hype on these pages about their superstar status. This pressure will only increase now as they enter three weeks in a row of threats (NC, TSS BBC) against a backdrop of the academic pressures of term 3 and QCS.
Well done TGS, a heroic effort - no disgrace there and well done Churchie, you resisted a major challenge.

Good post. Admittedly I predicted a blowout, but those country boys, including IGS, have a tendency of really giving it too, on paper better city teams, when least expected.
Kudos to TGS and IGS this week. No talk...all action by both teams (at least on this forum).
I think its a 3 horse race from here in (NC, TSS, ACGS) but would not be surprised to see GT make a strong challenge for the title. I think at least once this season BBC will live up to the hype (I'm thinking ACGS).
There is still a lot that can happen in this season and NC vs ACGS vs TSS vs Spoiler Teams means its still "game on" I don't expect anyone to go through undefeated this year.
Most contested Schoolboy comp in OZ year after year.

Yes, some great rugby from these boys - hopefully someone can get in their heads early at this stage of their schooling and make sure -

I can assure you Vegas ALL of these boys are committed to their school. With regards to rugby, all but 4 of the boys play club rugby (1 club league & 3 no club). It is just a fact the it is only the NRL clubs that show any interest in boys of this age and their development.

There were a few boys in that U14 game that were in the ARU U15 Gold program this year. It was a cracker of a game to watch, hard to believe these boys are 13/14 years old with the skill set and the ferocity of the hits. BBC really took it to nudgee in the second half and won that half. The 15A game next door was a cliff hanger as well with BBC repelling a late nudgee surge to hold on to a win.

I have heard that a certain school in the Qld GPS competition for 2014 is not fielding any teams below "B" grade because these lower grade teams do no count towards aggregate points for the season.
Shouldn't schoolboy rugby be about PARTICIPATION?

I attended the IGS v TSS 1st XV game this weekend. Certainly not a spectacle of schoolboy rugby that GPS allude to.
The referee certainly played a significant role.

In case anyone was interested how schools are going across the board, here's the placings after Rd 3 for 1st XV, 2nd XV, 16A, 15A, 14A and 13A respectively:

ACGS - 1st / 2nd / 2nd / 1st / 8th / 7th

BGS - 7th / 5th / 5th / 8th / 8th / 7th

Interesting to note that in the 15A competition, ACGS, BBC, BSHS, GT and TSS are all tied first on two wins.

Not quite a true reflection as bye rounds by some teams not taken.into account. - eg NC 14a's.

However. TSS and Acgs look stronger in the older age groups but fall a long way in the younger ages. And opposite for BSHS.

That reply now rates as the most laughable I have experienced on the forum. Mate these rugby stats are vetted by the respective schools and the site lists and acknowledge amendments. Which stats do you know are missing? Or is that claim on the same basis as your statement that GT and TSS won more games than NC etc in 2013?

Umm ok. You mean each schools rugby director sends a text to the guy who sends it to the papers?

Not many rounds ago this forum talked about 16b results from last year and we couldn't find certain results. They're missing.

No, the rugby directors send it to the QLD GPS Portal and it is posted on Sat night and then reviewed during the week and amendments made.

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon, so here are the official 2013 16B results. Note that IGS did not field a team for the whole season and BSHS did not field a team for the last round.
