We took a punt on heading to BSHS v TGS. It was that or ACGS v IGS. The punt paid off deluxe. What a game! BSHS jumped out early. Got the feeling TGS felt they had the game in the bag. BSHS 10 was super in first half. They led 16 to 5 at the break. In the most free flowing game I've seen this year TGS stormed back with plenty of tries to lead 31 to 16. BSHS scored to quick tries getting back to 31-28 down. TGS added one more to finish 36-28. A great arm wrestle and contest. Superb running rugby. Ten tries scored all up. Two BSHS kids in front were students of the game. Had stats and history covered. Very impressive. Only 14 penalties in the game they said. Ref is a super 15 TMO apparently. He certainly added value. Best players TGS: 4,7,9 ,15 BSHS: 6,8,10

Any news about NC against Downlands? Did they rest their whole 1st XV and if not, were there any injuries to anyone? I've heard rumours around the town that the final at Ross Oval is expecting 5000-1000 spectators to witness the NC vs BGS clash.

Bolt by saying that you didn't give credit to the replacement #5 that scored a try in that #5 jersey in the first half and featured strongly in others. The replacement was informed by the coach that he was nolonger in the 1st 15 after game 6, doesnt fit the structure and is too inconsistent. To date he has played in every game bar 1 (injury), starting in 5 of them. He didnt know the calls but he was fantastic support play and hard running throughout the game. Every player including Joe has been a victim of the coach's psychotic antics. If your sources are as good as you say (a few pages back) and this coach is not reappointed next year I'll eat my hat. But my sources tell me he'll be back. #5 ball in hand ran with it as many times as 8 and 7 and together the forwards defended admirably as they have all year. On the other hand #10 was good in the first half which is the better focus but in the second half the backs let in several tries that lost the day from a come-behind and that is all that matters. TGS #15 and backs switched on and turned it up in the second half, with some mighty good running from kick returns. Beautiful to watch. And nice to see Corne Uyc at the tuck shop and cheering for TGS behind the goal post with his crew. HAH.

Nick Anderson made his return and first official GPS start this year against GT in the 2nd XV. Coming on after halftime, he played exceptionally well, not showing any signs that his injured shoulder was limiting his ability. However, I doubt that Damon Emtage will select him in the 1sts for the final as it may disrupt a winning team. Sure, Anderson's impact is massive, but a change to the front row that consists of Harper, Blackhurst and Fatseas, may not benefit Grammar. As for Marsden, he sat out the game against GT and with the recent injury to Lewis Radford, the wing position looks a bit weak at the moment. Zach Laud filled Radford's position quite comfortably while Dan Forsyth did a decent job in replacing Marsden's speed and agility out wide. If the two usual wingers for BGS are out next week, Zach Laud and Trey Kemp or Dan Forsyth will have a tough job in retaining Grammar's strong wide attack. This may be an issue, but Zach Laud and Trey Kemp's defence is quite excellent and will most likely be able to shut down NC's 11 who seems to be one of the best players in the competition.

I doubt one guy would have made the difference - the lineouts didn't win or lose the game. Would have been good to know this before kick off though and pay closer attention to it. Some serious coaching issues obviously. Saw Noon wandering around before the game. Surely they can get him back??
TGS#15 was awesome. He was jeered when under the high ball on the half way line. He heard them, waved at them with his right hand and caught the ball at the same time with his left. Plugga would have been proud. They crowd jeered louder as a result and he then stormed 30 odd metres before being cut down. The defence was flimsy and the crowd when quiet in a second. Excellent to watch.
BSHS #10 packed up at half time. TGS exploited the weak mid-field defence and kept waltzing through it. The BSHS 12 defended well inside him, but had no idea outside.

As for Marsden, he sat out the game against GT and with the recent injury to Lewis Radford, the wing position looks a bit weak at the moment. Zach Laud filled Radford's position quite comfortably while Dan Forsyth did a decent job in replacing Marsden's speed and agility out wide. If the two usual wingers for BGS are out next week, Zach Laud and Trey Kemp or Dan Forsyth will have a tough job in retaining Grammar's strong wide attack. This may be an issue, but Zach Laud and Trey Kemp's defence is quite excellent and will most likely be able to shut down NC's 11 who seems to be one of the best players in the competition.

Pretty sure Marsden will be playing- should be a handful for the Nudgee defence. Zach laud or trey kemp to fill in for Radford. Both strong in defence but Grammar will lose some speed on that wing.

Possibility that he would be on the bench then run on at half time to replace any weak forward. He has told me he is keen to play and position in forwards, not just front row. If Gilbert is injured (he seemed like he wasn't playing 100% after a big hit against GT), then Anderson could play flanker - he certainly has the speed.

True he was asked to run-on for the 3rds (several players no show) but he was only expecting to turn out for the 2nds as he was advised on Thursday & Friday. The 1st coach on the day advised him that there was a change to the run-on team and that he was replacing his friend at #5. The Coach should respect players' personal issues. Rather than support the poor guy (Kendall) in his time of need, the coach just ditched him. Cold and cruel. The replacement did not agree with the way it was done (as he witnessed the entire incident unfold in the change room) and tried to give the jersey back and attempted to return to the 2nds to allow his friend to resume his place in the team. The coach divided the boys and destroyed the team ethic and dynamic before the team ran out on the field. Upset that their comrade in arms was unceremoniously dumped in the presence of all his mates, was too much for any young student to take. I hope your sources are correct. Kendall is a highly respectful and a talented student. He has amazing integrity and like many other players this year, he has put up with a lot on his plate both on and off the field. He did not deserve to treated like dirt.

Agree, one guy may not have made the difference but ... it was a good fight and I'm glad that the game was worth your trip to Fursdon Rd. I saw TGS play Sunnybank earlier this year and I loved the spectacle. Toowoomba is a class act. Maybe they will do the unthinkable next year like BGS. Hope BGS take it out this year. Its good for GPS, change the monopoly.

Yep, it's been 20 years since BGS had any premiership in the 1st XV and 40 years since an outright. Seems like there needs to be a shakeup in GPS rugby. I hope too that TGS have a big turn around as they haven't won a premiership since 1956 or an outright one since 1948. I've been disappointed with BBC's performance this year - they haven't really made any improvement in a few years and really seem like they have the facilities to get a good team going despite their traditional low standards in rugby. I really would want a big turn around from them. GT look like they have some potential in younger years, especially in grade 8. They have recently changed their selective entry to include sporting ability despite their Headmaster's strong objection to sporting scholarships - seems like a stepping stone to them - would be good to get great rugby played by all schools in the competition with State High looking for a drastic improvement next year.

This saturday is sure to be a cracker, with 10000+ expected at ross oval. I believe grammar will need to improve alot and adapt to the situatation their in if they want the premiership. As for Nudgee, if they play to their potential, i cant see grammar posing any worries, especially at home. Nudgee have been in this postion many time before and they should be composed and alot more relaxed than grammar (1992 was the last time they won and 1972 as outright premiers!). Greene vs Tuttle will be prove to be quite a spectacle.

The only real issue about this would be the regularity of a tied top of the ladder - it could all get too confusing and hard to organize. Has anybody got any thoughts about how the new arrangement of sports are going? I certainly think a longer preseason in rugby got more opportunity for equal opportunity.

I would love to see it! Maybe only if their was a tie between 1 or 2 though. I would also love the game this weekend to be advertised thoroughly and maybe even moved to a bigger venue like Ballymore or even Suncorp Stadium! I know that wont happen because it is unfair for Nudgee but wouldn't that be awesome to see a final premiership decider on such a world renound field.

Personally I see Radford as some what of a liability for BGS. He has an AFL frame of mind, especially when receiving kicks, which means there is more chance of the ball going to ground. Also, his defence is very very suspect and coming up against someone such as Tenakanai this would be visible to a blind man. If anything, this will help the team. Apart from the first round against BSHS, Radford's input has been minimal and his physicality has been appalling. Laud/Kemp/Forsyth (if those are the main 3 candidates) will hopefully step up to the plate. Every other fixture will be lacking crowd numbers with a game like this.
