Any talk yet about what happened to Given? Is he back in the Terrace firsts or playing against Grammar?

Yeah he played 10 on the weekend. With dalgleish outside him at #12. Why wasn't this change made weeks ago. My god, GT were so unlucky to not come away with the win on saturday, they played the entire game in the churchie 22 but that rugby i guess. Well in my personal opinion i think Dalgleish will run circles around Aiono this weekend can't say the same for the rest of the team. However i will always stay true to the red and black. GT by 5.

On a side note the churchie boys that ran up too Dalgleish were laughing and smiling while dalgleish tried to shove them off to be by himself, however the churchie boys were good mates of his that he had played with before for GPS and QLD so it was in a joking mates way. He was absolutely devastated but he should definitely not feel that he let down the team at all he was the best man on the field by a long way and without him would have been a different game. He played the best game of the season at #12 want to see more of it this weekend

You've stated that you think GT will win. I'm not disagreeing with you entirely but what are their strengths and what do you think they'll have to do to come away with the goods?

as I said in my post im backing GT to win purely on my love for the red and black. I do think the teams however are pretty fairly matched really however alot of people will disagree. We all know that grammar will go out there and play good rugby the question is will terrace? Gt are off and on. if you have watched them this season you would have seen that. They were the better side against Ipswich only lost by 2 points. Probably not the better side against Toowoomba but almost scrapped a win. Played reasonably well against BBC for there win. Against Nudgee they were only down by 2 points with 5 to go in the first half then heenan got injured and nudgee saw their weakness with the replacement and put 6 try's through him. The game against state high was simply appalling and there was no excuse for it. and last weekends churchie game they were by far the better side on the day just didn't convert to points. I'm not saying GT should have won any of these but I'm saying they are still a reasonable side who had the potential to finish mid table. Grammar don't want to go into the game too easily otherwise they could end up like Terrace against State High. One thing that we can all learn from this season is that previous results mean absolutely nothing. it all about what happens on the day.

Very valid point. I believe that a game such as this coming one is not determined on past endeavours but more a challenge of who comes prepared to fight for the game both mentally and physically. With grudge matches, past results are almost a detriment and can lead to complacency. I'm sure GT will not want a repeat of last year's horrific loss to BGS and I am certain that the Red & Black will aim to give Grammar a run for their money. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, GT (as underdogs) will go out hard and put up a strong contest. But I still don't think that their team has the depth and consistency to match the men in blue. Nonetheless, the Spring Hill Cup will be a feast of opportunity for both sides to showcase their talent and competitiveness.

I agree with ippylad93 on that call, GT should have recognised that Dalgleish is better where he has more time and space to run the ball rather than being a distributer. Given Filt Dalgleish's spot at 10 quite nicely and the combination between 10 and 12 seemed to be much more effective than in previous weeks. The 10, 12 and 13 for GT on the weekend seemed to display a solid line of defense, no line breaks were made through this area and on a number of occasions Ioane came off second best when trying to take them on.

Dalgleish played the best game that i have seen him play all year where he was matched up against churchie #12 Gunn. I believe the GT coaching staff will be kicking themselves to not have made this change earlier on in the season. Given directed play around the park, putting forward runners into holes and was incredibly unlucky to be called up for atleast 2 forward passes which would have been flat at worst. On both of these occasions could have seen GT rewarded with points. There has been a lot of talk about GT supporters complaining about Refs but i can't help to understand where they're coming from. The Ref kept Churchie in the game and it seemed that whenever GT got any momentum the Referee would turn things against them, extremely unlucky IMO.

As for the final play of the match which saw GT with a try and Dalgleish with a much pressured kick 5m in from the sideline, i must say that the Churchie supporters showed a vast amount of respect. You literally could not hear a sound throughout the ground. Once he had kicked it and the Churchie supporters started cheering, a number of churchie players turned to them and told them to be quiet as Dalgleish was almost brought to tears. He was absolutely devastated and both the GT and Churchie players made him their number 1 priority to congratulate on the game. It was a great display of sportmanship and ended with Given where he then walked off with his arm around Dalgleish which i would assume he was trying to cheer him up. A good game all up, GT incredibly unlucky to not win the 2 points but congratulations to Churchie on their first win.

The boot of Sam Greene and some spirited Brisbane Grammar School play has earned BGS a hard fought 26-23 victory over a well drilled Southport School side. With both sides taking a “points first” approach, one would be forgiven for thinking that this match would be one for the purists. This was hardly the case,

Big call ippy lad. There are a couple of pretty handy TSS backs still digging themselves out of the turf at northgate!

I'm afraid that if he is overlooked by schoolboy and rep selectors that he might be lost to rugby league. In all honesty he's a splitting image of Ben Barba in his performances throughout the season, arguably with even better footwork.. The Bronco's released Barba from their junior academy at 16 or 17, and with his recent form for the Doggies it can only be assumed that they would be regretting letting him go.

If Marsden does turn to League, I think the Bronco's would be keen to nurture his talents and try to develop him.

What are you talking about? Marsden has no background whatsoever in league, having played Union since early primary school. This is a ridiculous suggestion, I can't see him turning to league on his own initiative.

Can confirm it was genuine. It was disappointing to miss the kick, but churchie seemed to be good blokes about it

Yep, confirmed, I just watched the tape. 3. Jack Leamon and 13. Jaidon Schafer from Churchie gave him a genuine hug. Good form.

Nudgee or grammar or southport for the premiership?

I'm tipping nudgee with a close win over grammar. Under 5 points

Nudgee at Ross would have to be favourites
I'll have to agree with this; the sheer number of NC supporters would have to at least give them a five point advantage. The word around grammar suggests a massive turnout of BGS boys coming to watch. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Agree Nudgee at home must start favorites. Interestingly though it was 1972 when BGS last won the trophy outright (40 years) and 1992 when they last shared the title (20 years). They are due again!

After that clutch (and I can't say the word clutch enough) performance by grammar, I can only say that there is a god in heaven, and his name is Matthew Marsden. Grammar's string of clutch wins against BBC, Churchie and now Southport can only say great things about the strength of this year's First XV; Nudgee had better watch out, because Grammar is coming home with a vengeance.

Its heinous that you put the win in the hands of Matthew, while he was that scored the try it wasn't a 1 man try and to not give props to the rest of the team is blatantly dumb.

You need to stop posting on behalf of Grammar so often because half of what you say is inaccurate.

^mate he scored the winning try, which he has done on more than one occasion. its okay to give the kid some props. Also, he hardly puts the win on the one kid; mentions him once...

heres a youtube vid of BGS v TSS... only shows bgs highlights & camera is pretty shaky. Does showcase Greene & the BGS backline quite nicely though

Obviously Matt Marsden deserves a lot of credit (starting with a well-deserved U16 QLD White jersey) for the freakish and spectacular performances he has been putting in week-in, week-out, but I do agree with Yoloruggers when he says that it was a team try. Sam Greene had a spectacular match, keeping BGS in the hunt with penalties from all over the field, whilst marshalling an outstanding backline performance leading from the front. Josh Birch and Lakehm Aiono provided some brilliant midfield solidity and support play across the board, and the entire forward pack more than matched their opposites. We often talk about the "superstars" from teams- Greene, Cornelson, Blackhurst, Aiono, Birch etc.- but it's players like Dalton Cox (BGS #5) and Patrick Morrey (BGS #7) who really don't get the accolades they deserve. Their contributions, amongst the entire 1st XV squad, have helped provided the platform for Grammar success this season.

Sticking with my pre season pick of NC, hope Grammar are thinking about and building towards NC to much and get rolled by GT. Has been a great comp so far, would have been a cracking comptetition if BBC didnt lose so many players to injury because they would have been another team who could beat anyone on their day... high quality footy alround so far though. No 80 point score lines is only good for the competition. even though BSHS and GT have been getting beaten they have been playing some good footy and scoring some points. Who are the contenders for GPS player of the year? Tuttle, Greene?
