I think pick and go was asking about why Terrace was not playing Sydney GPS schools while on their Southern tour.

A couple of guesses - most of the teams they played are/were Christian Brothers schools - so easier to organise. Also in past tours when they have played Sydney GPS schools, i think they have been belted and not gained too much from the experience.

what do you mean you think they have been belted? because they have won both games and quite convincingly too

Missed the Point buddy, he means in previous tours not this tour. Just thinking as well, GT might be performing well because cas schools might have rep playera out, in saying that goes the same way for GT

Pick and go is correct. I was referring to past tours. QLD teams have traditionally been on average a year younger than the NSW school teams. This can be a huge difference at this age and probably why some QLD GPS schools choose not to play Sydney GPS schools in pre season trials.

This might not be the right place for the discussion, but I think if you look at the number and quality of professional players that have come out of the QLD GPS system a convincing case could be made that QLD has the higher standard of competition.

While the point that NSW students are generally a year older is valid, the number of current Wallabies and Super players out of the QLD GPS system is ridiculous. Combine that with the fact that the most of the past few years I'd say QLD GPS has had the best teams in Australia, I'd say the QLD GPS competition is slightly superior to the NSW comp.

oh right my bad, well the gt boys come back from a relatively successful tour with 3 wins and 0 losses, cannot compare these wins to other teams considering all teams they played were missing 2 or 3 players, but this was also the same case for terrace, the only comparison that can be made is the win against waverly a team that put 40 points on marist

which other teams went on tours this holidays? i don't see why churchie went on a tour so early (last december)? does anyone find this term 3 start to the GPS season great because of the huge build up to it

Light, Dark Shark, The Sabanator and Lee Grant as probably the most accurate and knowledgable posters on this i would like your opinion on who you believe would win out of Scots and Nudgee?

I don't mean to sound ignorant or anything, but the QLD GPS competition in recent times has been stronger than Sydney GPS. Just last season nudgee college beat Riverview (premiers 3 out of the last 4 years) by around 30 points, not to mention the ratio of aus schoolboys that generally favours qld (and by partial extension, gps). That said ippylad, the nudgee team at present isn't quite the team of recent years, despite some exceptional talent. I draw comparisons between this years churchie team and scots college of recent years, although they've produced some exceptional talent, they haven't been able to close out some of the games that they probably should have won on paper.

yeah completely agree with you tarabs, i looked through the sydney GPS 2012 thread and it seems like apart from there 3 or 4 grade 11's that played Australian Schoolboys last year they have some major holes in their team. QLD GPS is definitely quite superior even though NSW have a whole year on most players. Do you know what happens if players in NSW are a year older, because it is an U18 competition they would be turning 19 that year does that make them ineligible for their GPS teams?

i hope GT went down south for a boost of confidence ahead of GPS season, because if not, they have wasted their money and certainly haven't challenged themselves during the tour. they'd be better off playing some local rugby union clubs in brisbane or playing some of the AIC schools..

Hmm making comparisons with GPS schools to AIC schools hey, GT should be winning those games quite easily. Also Marist only had one qld schoolboy this year so not a very good comparison to make

ok i'm not sure what you just read, but he said you couldn't make any other comparisons apart from comparing GT and Marist. Then you say GT should be winning those games easily; if they can beat a team that put 40 on Marist I think they would do just that. You proceed to say it is not a good comparison to make because marist only have 1 QLD schoolboy, but so do terrace. A generally poorly thought out comment.

Yeah i did read that wrong, my fault. Would be good to see if GT could play Marist would be interesting to see the outcome. Also just some quick notes for you ippylad93, marist only lost by 20 to waverly, st edmunds beat waverly, then marist beat eddies in the AIC so it would be interesting to see GT play Marist

Can we wait till the season starts before we start comparing individual GPS teams to AIC teams? I don't see the point in this exercise.

Who's injured/out for round 1 games?

Nudgee play BBC, at BBC.
Churchie play TGS, at Toowoomba
TSS play IGS, at Ipswich
BGS play BSHS, at Northgate

I imagine Oppenheimer (ACGS) won't be playing after being injured at state trials, can anyone confirm if Tuttle (NC) and Greene (BBC) are in the same boat? Surely there are a few others.

Anticipation is at a fever pitch after the extended absence of GPS rugby.

Nudgee vs BBC - NC by 10
Churchie vs TGS - TGS by 5
TSS vs IGS - TSS by 15
BGS vs BSHS - Grammar by 5

GT vs Downlands - GT by 14

agree with this post, however these games are going to be quite close and upsets from any of the teams you have picked to loose wouldn't be an enormous surprise.

Tuttle played today at nationals according to other threads so i'd imagine he'll be ready for round 1

I take it no-one wants to think there will be any a@#e kickings in this first round. Nudgee by 30, Churchie by 20, Terrace would be insane to play full side, Havent seen TSS play this year so cant comment. BGS by 10.

Churchie would not want to let the ball get past the flyhalf.
