French wouldn't be in my top 5 based on the quality of locks running around and those boys selected above him in the GPS teams but stranger things have happened. He does go to Terrace so I guess that does make him awesome.

Ease up on the sarcasm light. French is a quality second rower and the lineout is definitely his forte, has been supreme so far against BBC and Churchie.

As to the debate between Eason, Placid and Greene, the answer would appear to be none of them. With the form that Dalgleish has shown, he is definitely the answer at 10.

I find these threads weird as some of the best players in the comp/state hardly ever get a mention but its great to see that you have mentioned Cooney and Bunting, 2 quality players who i would agree with making the QLD 1 Team

Bunting went to TSS in grade 10 and played 16As but left the next year as he did not enjoy the school. Last year as an u17 he was in the GC Breakers Premier Colts team and made QLD u17s, very good player and I would expect him to make 1 of the 2 QLD teams

All im hearing about is GT GT GT. Enough already, Nudgee is clearly the most prominant rugby school based on premierships, even before scholarships were introuduced. Again i would like to say that the two trials are promosing results and they will be a moer formidable team then last year, but IT IS JUST TRIALS. Those schoolboys out there from any GPS school needs to realise that posting constant biased comments is doing your school no favour. Can we please talk about some other schools, for instance hows IGS shaping up this year, have heard alot about GT but little, if not nothing baout them apart from results.

I can't see any problems with the GPS I team or any real shock omissions. The Chairmans side is also very strong.

Well i think the best example can be seen with Darcy Eason playing at 10 for GPS 1. His good reputation is the only reason he is in that side.

He played GPS 2 and CSS last year, I think they are rewarding consistency and reputation with his selection. I don't see how they could have picked anyone else to be honest, and thats not even a bias opinion. He is, for the moment, the best 10 in the competition, its up to the others to prove they are better.

Say what you want about trials, but any time two of the top guys in their position go against each other in any sort of game I'd expect them to give it a red hot crack, and Dalgleish easily performed better on the day.

Completely agree with 'the sabanator'. James Dalgleish outplayed all the five-eights out at Northgate a few weeks ago. This just goes to show as you said 'light' that "they are rewarding consistency and reputation with his selection."

Jonah Placid and Issac French have pulled out of trials, jonah with injury and issac to go on tour with gt instead. dissapointed, would have liked to see both play. Eason playing 9 for school trials so far wouldnt be helping his chances for getting picked at 10. most exciting battle will be Andrew Manu (SEC & AIC 1) v Francois Postale (NC & GPS 1) for the hooker spot, expect some big collisions from them.

These kind of selections happen every year, both guys will be up some stiff competition for the QLD 1 jersey and at this point it could go to anyone. I haven't figured out a favourite for it just yet, we would be stupid to write off Billy Thompson from Downlands.

In regard to Placid pulling out I am rather disappointed, his skill from the back would have really improved the Chairmans XV chances. Regardless it gives the young villa lad a chance to run on so no complaints from this side of the fence. I don't think Greene will have it all his own way at the trials, Banks is a very capable and the AIC lads have big raps on Wilson Bennett. You may remember from last year all the GPS lads up in arms over Hunt and Greene, both who ended up being beaten to the 15 jersey by relative unknown AIC boy Jono Kent, Kent went on to higher honours if my memory serves me right.

We would be foolish to write off AIC or CSS boys in the positions which there are no dominant GPS standouts.

PlayedinHeaven, you are right. That clash will be exceptional, will be interested to see if Cody Blackhurst puts his hand up for selection from GPS 3 and also what Dimitri Loukaris can do for the Chairmans side.

Goal kicking and speed only get you so far and they can protect him at 15, not so much at 10 when the whole opposition back row is gunning for his head. The reason Kurtley Beale was so successful as a schoolboy 10 was that he had incredible agility and creativity, when you put these together with good speed and a solid defence you have a very good schoolboy 10, he operated at a level that was freakish and compensated for his size. He certainly wasn't as small as Greene and that worked in his favour when he played at 10. I would be surprised if the selectors try moving Sam to number 10, it's either a choice of him or Placid for the 15 jersey, the 10 is open for contention but Eason looks to be the number 1 contender.

I don't get why everyone seems to be of the opinion that Sam Green is small. He's turning 18 this year and he's got to be around 85kg now. I heard today he was sub-70kg when he first played 1st XV rugby back in 2010, and three years later he's still thriving. He's a tough player with the best kicking game in GPS, if not QLD. He's got tremendous pace, experience and playmaking ability. Anybody who writes him off this early will be eating their words very soon.

exactly, looking past this overriding terrace sarcasm, these players relatively good chances (although noting isaac has opted out we wont know for sure - imo he was in with a good chance)

very good points, once more the politics of representative selection come through - shunning the players with real ability who have trained and become better the opportunity to play

BBC went down to BSHS today by two trys. Both teams were short GPS trialists but afforded an entertaining game regardless. An ugly win and will do no one favours in picking the better of the two teams for the season as the variables involved are purely speculative given the abscence of first-string players. BBC had some exciting backs that were unlucky not to post more points than they did. BSHS by comparison did not have equal talent at 10, 12 and out wide. The centre was outstanding in the collision and salvaged respect for the BSHS backs. BBC in the forwards need to man-up more and take control at the breakdown. Clearly BSHS's second string forward contingent had moments of consolidation and drive, but didnt really stamp their authority until the second half when changes were made at flanker and second row. Two more tries resulted from SH forward pressure. BBC backs could have won this game on their own merit if they went more to #14 on the outside who clearly left the field for dead when put in space. #14 was key to a winning result. BSHS #18 off the bench in the second half made a difference to forward composure and took a ball from the line-out for a 40m dash to score, that was the game changer although two more trys (one each) from both teams came after, the BBC players lost faith following #18's runaway.
