question from Sydney..any news on why Cornelson missed selection for the schoolboy touring side after playing against Tonga?

An answer from Sydney: if he is not injured it is probably because Korcyzk did better starting for Oz A v Tonga than Cornelson did from the bench for the main team a few days later.

One of the problems for the Oz team v Tonga in my eyes was that, Rorke excepted, not many of the tight five guys were much good in power running - knocking blokes over, ball in hand.

Cornelson weighs only 90kgs and though the other locks, apart from Rorke, are not much heavier, and are stringbeans themselves, they probably thought Korcyzk was more robust in his game against Tonga than Cornelson was in his.

PS is there anybody on this thread a Nudgee person? Has Tuttle ever played flyhalf for the team - or even for part of a game? Or has any other Qld player chosen to tour for Oz Schools played the position?

I ask the question because Horwitz from Scots in Sydney was dropped from the squad and McIntyre, who played 10 for the main team v Tonga (with Horwitz on the bench), is apparently the only flyhalf in the touring party.

If they wanted to omit Horwitz they should have included Greene, who I rate highly; but even if not him, they should have picked a specialist 10 as a backup.

It was no surprise that the Blue and White beat GT today, however I like many thought it would be closer. 50-13 was a pretty accurate account for the game because I thought terrace played poorly. Ill be the first to admit the refereeing definately went the way of Nudgee but it wouldnt of changed the outcome. Paddy James was by far the best on the field and a special mention to #12 of terrace for his defense. Bad news for GT with #13 going down in the first 5 with what looked like a broken arm. What were the other results?

Yup GT were plain not up to it today... Nudgee scored almost right away and then for about 20 minutes you thought GT was going to make a game of it... However at 5-3 Nudgee just broke the line too many times and punished a poor GT.

I'd summarise most of the game as the difference between the two teams being the way they handled the second phase of play. On numerous occasion both schools broke the line but Nudgee just hammered home the advantage every time by spreading the ball quickly and taking advantage of some poor scrambing defense from GT. On the other hand, after almost every break GT plain coughed up the pill with boring one man out plays. Not once did they move the ball wide in the second phase, and Nudgee were often short too.

The game was probably summarised nicely at 25-3 when Nudgee took the ball from a set piece and with a nice mid-field switch gained an extra man out wide and scored in the corner. It's just not good enough to have your defensive line broken simply from a backline switch. GT need a lot of work on their attitudes and intensity.

EDIT: I'll just add, the tackle on GT's #13 was enormous! Massive hit, stopped him dead in his tracks and put him out. It was GT's best line break of the game and it was totally shut down by Nudgee's 14 who I believe is in grade 10. GT's #13 was in serious trouble and was called upon to tackle because no one in the GT team was smart enough to make him go down and stop the game. It's schoolboy rugby for crying out loud, the ref will stop the game for a serious injury.

TGS 26 d IGS 22. Good quality game. A nail biter finish as IGS on the line and looked certain to score to win the game and knocked on and that was it. Pretty bed for IGS rugby as they did not win 1 game the entire day with some pretty big scores recorded. The 15Aside were undefeated up until today and TGS won convincingly 41 to 17.

The game wasn't stopped - Terrace appeared to play for about 4 minutes with 14 men before a replacement could be made. Naturally, it resulted in a Nudgee try.

Credit due to Nudgee however, they play rugby the right way. Barge it up in the forwards and spin it wide in the backs, the Wallabies could learn a thing or two from this. Thought it could have been closer but Terrace played awfully, especially after the Heenan injury.

Of the 4 or so contenders I've seen play this year, Nudgee is the best. Better forwards than IGS, better backs than most others. Would be surprised if they don't somehow end up on top again.

Terrace were disappointing.
Best player for GT - Kris Larosa.
Best player for NC - Paddy James

Whilst Terrace didn't have the best day today, it looks like we are now in for a huge contest for the GPS premiership, with two teams out in front on 8 points (IGS/NC) and 3 teams on 6 (TGS/BGS/TSS). Also the teams on 8 points also have a bye to come, so it looks like with 4 rounds to go the premiership could be any of those teams!

I don't see Ian Jones' champion team above.....oh thats right 1 draw from 4 games may not be enough to win the comp this season....

Yes, all 5 teams have dropped one game. Just looking at the games ahead between these 5 teams:
NC have IGS, TGS and BGS to come for their last 3 games
TSS have TGS, BGS in the next 2 weeks
BGS have TSS and NC to come
TGS face TSS, NC
IGS only have the hurdle of NC

Hmm, how many joint premiers could we have?

TSS got up over State High 46-12 today, fulfilling most people's predictions of around 35 points.

From a Southport perspective, the team can't afford to play anything below their best in the next two weeks against Toowoomba and Brisbane Grammar, but it is difficult to gauge a performance against a team like BSHS that is weak this year.

I guess they just did what they needed to, not an exciting game by any means.

Just on the topic of other age groups, the 13A's is interesting with Churchie/Terrace the only undefeated teams with state high/Igs having 1 loss each. Odd that nudgee arnt doing so well with 3 losses
