I guess the Downs team at the Qld State Champs will be strong next week.

I understand Churchie only sending out their seconds this week to play Downlands 1sts.
Best Downlands 1st XV in many years, but a bye's a chance to rest so who can blame them.

In that case, churchie will egt smashed, downlands have had some good results, and have a well drilled team.

Well interesting round of fixtures this week.

NC V GT

Nudgee will be too strong for GT, who's main problem is that they're forward pack/backrow can't get over the advantage line consistantly, bar their number 4? I think it was him anyway, good player. GT will show up with a bit of fighting spirit for the Catholic Derby, but nudgee will get home by 25, with GT keeping in touch in the first half.

BBC V BGS

This is a danger game for BGS who are looking very strong and full of confidence after last week's exhillarating win over IGS. BBC, whilst not particularly strong, have been competitive enough in recent games, and from my memory Grammar don't have the strike power out wide to really put the weaker teams away, and instead will be relying on there forward pack, which is missing the bloke that got sent off last week. There will be 5000 or so watching this game if you factor in the fact that people will be there before the Reds, it's old Boys weekend at BBC and I think they have sold ~300-500 tickets to the game just for that, plus people like me who will be there to watch with the school but sitting elsewhere for the main game. College will be fired up (it's a home game so the pipe band is playing). But Grammar should get home by 15, unless we see a repeat of the Churchie game last year. Also Peter Jaffe returns to the starting lineup.

IPPY V TGS

Ipswich will be filthy after losing by one point to Grammar, so expect the concerntration at training this week to pay off on the field against TGS. Ippy by 20.

TSS V BSHS

Cracker of an attacking game coming here, but recent State High Showings haven't been of the same standard as the last few years. I'd pick TSS by 15 again.

Looking forward to this weekend lads.

It is a shame Downlands't get a chance against Churchie 1st XV. Understandably they don't want injuries or worse still a loss. It is a short season and these kids need game time. I hope we don't have GPS teams dodging Downlands when they have a strong team. They suffer plenty of losses and still keep coming back each year.
In answer to Jets, Yes Downs will have a good week next week.

Do you know the squad list?

Agree Silverback. Downlands always fields competitive sides & inevitably have 1 to 2 reps in the state scoolboy sides, a point missed by these 'armchair selectors'. Downlands has the benefit of a top coaching staff & seem to have the knack of identifying their top players in the under 14s & nuturing them through the grades. This is evidenced by their set pieces & knowing each other's game in the Firsts. This was first done by John Elders a former England coach who coached at Downlands in the 80s. He coached perhaps one of the best schoolboy sides in Queensland that included Tim Horan, Brett Johnstone, Brett Robinson, Garrick Morgan (all Wallabies) & Peter Ryan who would have being except he went to the Broncos.

The U18 Downs squad is mainly made up of Downlands kids as is usually the case. The forwards are all Downlands who have one of the best if not the best packs goung around this year. The inclusion of an outside centre from out of Toowoomba will boost an already slick and skillfull back line. As can be expected there have been a couple of withdrawals due to injury but the squad should still be very competitive at the championships.

Looking forward to the Grammar 1st XV extending their so far 100% record against BBC on Sunday. They'll be out to set the record straight after a disappointing trial loss earlier this year, and after an upset victory over favourites IGS they'll be coming out firing. BGS by 17.

35000 people to be there during curtain raiser... That will be epic. Can't wait. Even though I expect the College to lose ( we won in the trial but a lot has changed since then and grammar from memory did exactly what they should do in a trial match - trial people ) the atmosphere will be intense for a gps game. See you all there

Leave the jibes out from both sides and the chat will fizzle out. Congratulations Nudgee, any other results from this weekend fellas?

Disappointing loss to terrace today, could've gone either way really, the score doesn't reflect the efforts of the boys - from either side.
