G’day Terry,
Mate, this was hands down the most exciting result of the weekend, and probably the most surprising too. For a Grammar side that hadn’t notched up a win since 2022 in the GPS comp, to go into what’s arguably their toughest pre-season hit-out and not get absolutely pumped is bloody brilliant. Word around the traps is they were even held up over the line in the dying stages against Nudgee. That’s not just impressive, that’s a statement.
Now I always figured BBC would be one of those teams this year look good on paper, plenty of promise, but never quite firing on all cylinders. You’d expect Nudgee gave them a bit of a reality check, and them to come firing agasint grammar in the second trial. But for BGS to come out and hold BBC to a draw? Mate, I nearly fell off my chair.
There’s something different about Grammar this year. You can tell. There’s been a shift not just in results, but in attitude. Full head change, as they say. They look like a team that actually believes they belong now. They’ve got the hunger.
I know they’ve got young Elijah Breen running around at 15 or 10, hes a real slippery customer, footwork like he's dancing on coals. But I’m wondering, was there anyone else who stood up on the day? Any big forwards laying the platform? Any hard-nosed defenders giving the BBC backs nightmares? Keen to hear if anyone else caught the eye because if Grammar’s got more than just Breen pulling strings, we might be seeing a serious grammar team FINALLY!!!
Cheers, D.B
