Poor discipline cost Nudgee . Gave away too many penalties. Bye bye Premiership.
Congratulations State High.
Other games, BBC came from behind to win a close match.
IGS were disappointing today and TSS dominated Grammar.
This aged well. Bye Bye Premiership

Reds U'18s have been released. It seems to me there has been some lazy recruiting with familiar old names and new additions to spice up the roster. The Reds systems have been seen to be struggling, especially against powerhouse teams like NSW, who continually dominate the Reds u15's-u19's sides. These systems tend to have an invitation-only trial, already made up of their two teams. This lack of integrity in recruiting new members seems to represent their performance against these NSW sides. Why don't Reds systems have an open trial for both GPS 1stxv and 2xv trials for a spot in both Red and Grey teams? Players from the 2xv competition from schools such as Nudgee, who have players like Charlie O'Connell, Finn O'Reilly, Oliver Clarke and other schools such as Jacob Job and David Colivalu from BBC. Cameron Phillip and Harry Solafa from Churchie should be allowed a shot in the Reds systems. But however, their representation of playing in a lower standard competition of 2xv disallows them from a shot. Why is the Reds system so lazy?

Hmmm, some interesting, but business as usual results today, from the current Reds Academy program v NSW.

Selectors might need to try something different, talent identification needs to look beyond last year's team sheet and emails from little johnny's Daddy and GPS rugby directors.

A Reds T-shirt, coffee & donuts with a clipboard in hand just ain't working, just ask Eddie. The NRL seem to be good at identifying talent.

I posted on the u16/19 thread that the basic skill level of the u19’s was poor. Others were suggesting the younger teams had this same deficiency. This poor skill level goes right up through the super rugby teams to the Wallabies. Watching Portugal play in the World Cup was a delight with their skill level. A complete overhaul of coaching is needed in Australia across all levels to improve this from junior coaches that bring these u15/16 and 19 players through right up to the Wallabies coaches. Unfortunately the next 5 years will be a hard slog to get this right.

If we are talking about footy players who are going to be promising for the 2024 1st XV season, then, the words Nick Weir certainly have to leave your mouth. A championship junior bull rider from Far Northern Queensland (Laura), theres no doubt this kid has what it takes. Although, being out for the majority of last season after a hip drop to end a dominant 45m ball carry against the mighty TSS U15 side in round 2. This country boy certainly has some mongrel, not even being phased from the immense injury sustained. However, this kid is honestly one of the best defenders i’ve ever seen at any level of footy! Coaches have told me he achieved his strong defensive game from his time wrangling cleanskin scrubber bulls from the ages of 8 to 13 up in the top end. Before moving to Upper Brookfield to attend Gregory Terrace in Spring hill. He may be feared purely due to his tackling ability but this tight head prop has some silky hands and a strong kicking presence to go with it aswell.
