It’s not going to happen as AIC isn’t just a rugby comp. ATC are the school most likely to join AIC as they currently compete in most sports.

Downlands could be brought into First XV as an associate member. Would be highly competitive from the get go.

Downlands attempted to come into the AIC a number of years ago. They even offered to travel every week for the first 3 years to sweeten the deal and not every AIC school was in favour, so it never eventuated.
Re: Downlands, not sure how many AIC families/schools would want to head up to The Fridge for a game on the weekend, a trip to Tivoli upsets enough from what I hear!?
Also, would Downlands want to join AIC? Not sure of their other sporting programs - I assume they compete locally in the Downs area etc. but currently despite not being able to claim GPS membership, their rugby program can offer access to playing GPS teams every weekend (on their bye rounds) and the exposure that comes with that. It helped Mac Grealy make a name for himself and he didn't have to leave Toowoomba to do it.

You are correct. It was mentioned in an earlier comment too. There is a whole set of “criteria” that has to be met and across the entire sports/co-curricular offerings. Not just Rugby. Their current arrangement with GPS hasn’t appeared to disadvantage them either over the years either.

Ahh this was once the 'Downlands to TAS' circular argument. Not sure what the results have been like but I suspect the 'GPS bye round v Downlands' and trials against Ashgrove are probably a better deal for Downlands' rugby programme who can compete against the scholarship kids.
Having said that, while the AIC comp gets its eyes picked out by the GPS arms race (imagine paying 40k school fees so your kid's school can buy a 1st XV), every school had won a 1st XV premiership in the first 20 years. This is a great thing. For context that took 100 years in the GPS and there are schools that probably won't win ever again. In the Sydney GPS there are schools that don't even play 1sts or 2nds anymore.

Look, I’ll beat my chest and scream "KIHA KAHA" all day long, but let’s be real without my King Keanu Bothma and Diesel (The Truck) Hauff our team is basically as useful as Keanu on the Milton Mangos on Friday Night (Blinded).
We were predicted to make top 3… yeah sweet dream . Ever since we vsed Ashgrove it’s been a downhill slide steeper than the hill arriving to Wynumn bugs Rugby Club. Going into this game its pretty even anyone can take the win home but rumour has it is Seb Kracht the Wing to Lock Hero is due for Surgery because his back is quiet literally broken after scoring a try against every team this yr . Then Villanova rolled us 33-7. We got turned into highlights for the novanationvnc25 on insta and aic.rugby.highs on tiktok. The King, Keanu Bothma, our scrum-half general, is out. No direction, no magic, no cheeky chips behind the line. Eddies reckon this is their shot. But don’t get too comfy Max Bolton our prince, our fullback flyer, fresh off QLD rep duties and back from the Villa vortex, is strapping up. He’s got the vision, the boot, and the heart of the Gorilla Inside of him. And standing tall in the middle the engine room is the Truck himself Diesel Hauff, our No. 8 unit. He doesn’t step defenders he relocates them. Full throttle. No brakes. So yeah, the King’s resting. But the Prince flies and the Truck rolls.…but our King Keanu’s out, so none of this even matters.

Now, the Eddies Wolfpack are circling, hungry and ready to upset the Gorilla.
Looks like the Wolfpack is about to hunt, Eddies by 7 id say will be a cracker.

Hey there Old Skool,
looked a little bit like they were trying to copy St Laurence’s with the bag pipes. I know they have been doing it for years. Maybe an attempt at mind games. Clearly didn’t work though as the boys from the 4178 were very ordinary in front of a packed old boys day crowd.

I would have said the other way round Marist look like a team of champions that have relied on some very good individual skills. Where Padau have been a champion team with a couple and V good players but mainly winning on the back of good team structures and grinding down teams.
Looking forward to the Structure of Padua vs the eyes up rugby of Marist.
I'm backing Padua to win this one.

Couldn’t disagree more. Marist are far more a “champion team” than a “team of champions.” Last year’s Marist 1st XV had all the individual brilliance but couldn’t put it together as a team. This year’s side have been brilliantly coached and they’ve all bought into the game plan as a team.
I'm seeing structure in both sides - and that comes from coaching. It's going to be good.
The one difference I see is that Padua kick for position - with both sides able to bomb hard from long range. A high scoring game?
