You can't criticise a back for having a low tally though Dan. You can only tackle blokes that come your way. Not like he could go 'looking for work' like a loose forward.
.
We're talking about the 10-12 channel though Barbarian... usually a 12 works in tandem with his 10 for at least some of the defensive work.

Anyway, point being it's a bit rich to be talking up Cooper's defensive work on the back of 2 tackles like some have here.

Just watching the replay - at looking at the defensive set up. Mid-field scrum just in the Argie half (was after Simmons got help up after the drop out.

Izzy at FB, Quade is back on the side line where the kick is likely to go.
Foley, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Tomane open side.
Kurindrani blind side

QC (Quade Cooper) playing on the wing would explain the tackle count (altopugh I've already seen him make a couple so maybe the stats aren't that accurate?)

I thought McCalman was really good. Every time he got the ball he made ground, including a few great runs off a backpedalling scrum.

He's our best 8.
.

Agree. And remember it was Benny's first game back after missing the last couple of rounds of Super Rugby with a cheekbone fracture.

Just another example - around 47 mins in - Argies have around 8 - 10 phases, and don't do a great deal. Izzy back, Phipps behind the line, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) on one wing, QC (Quade Cooper) on the other with Tomane inside of him. Foley pops up on both sides, rushing up and misses a couple of front on tackles that doesn't do much damage because h he's getting them behind the advantage line and slowing them up for otehrs to get there.

I must have missed something ,can i ask how Joe Tomane got to play ? i thought Cummins was called up to replace Horne ? Tomane did his selection chances no harm i thought ,, seems to be a result of all the competition for places , get a chance .. take it ,, what about Drew Mitchell as well thought he might get a go ,,

Think he was at 15 in defence for most of the game, which explains the low count.

Last one, unless anyone asks for more. 51 mins Argie lineout in their own half.
Foley at hooker. Moore lifing at 1. Hooper at 5/8
Kuridrani, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Tomani in the mid- feild. QC (Quade Cooper) on the open wing back for the kick
Foley and QC (Quade Cooper) stay on their wings through the phases

Not in a Bled match with no game time for weeks

I'd rather throw him into the deep end and see how he handles the pressure. It will do him a world of good before the RWC. He was absent for compassionate ground, no injuries, so his fitness should be good.

Yep, very interesting. I recall seeing Phipps standing at #1 in one lineout the other night also. Saw a few similar variations during the AB v SA match also. It definitely something that a lot of teams are doing and I dare say that a little more thought is going into the various positional changes than simply trying to hide someone in defense ;)

I would think on the form of the last two weeks, Tomane & Horne deserve to start. Speight's circumstances have put him behind those two, Australia vs USA would be his next chance of starting I reckon

Actually, most of the points you have made criticising Cooper have not been backed up by facts. Maybe you should consider reserving judgement or checking things out a bit better before you post.

I just posted his awesome defence stats, so if you have some that say different then I'd be happy to see your "facts" on the issue.

I think that this is really just a case of you not liking the facts when they don't support Cooper.

As for reserving judgement, until when exactly?

You all think I badly have it in for him, but I honestly don't. I don't like him much (mostly for his Nasser inspired tendencies I've pointed to) , but I don't actually hate him. But I also don't think he's done as much this year or last to earn a Wallaby jersey as guys like Foley, Giteau, To'omua and Lealiifano. If Cooper had been setting the field alight for the Reds these past two years, then fine, but he hasn't has he?

Is that really so terribly wrong and unfair that anyone who dare speaks a word on Cooper's deficiencies must be roundly attacked by you and his other groupies?

Instead of these vague motherhood statements like "mostly for his Nasser inspired tendencies I've pointed to" how about you actually point to something specific.

Because you just throw around generalizations as justification for your dislike.

That's where I disagree. Horne was Horne in game 1. Meaning he was solid without being very threatening. Tomane was quiet apart from his try - where he showed how valuable pace is. On defence he looked lost at times - he will get found out against the AB's.

Speight has pace like Tomane and defends just as good as Horne, if he is fit enough then throw him in.

Although I did forget about Mitchell - he might get a start too.

I know people think Quade cops it unfairly, but Hooper has been nothing but good for the image of the Wallabies up until this point, whilst Quade frankly hasn't. To be fair, he did seemingly learn his lesson for a while there, but the context of the location of the tweet and the guy who wrote it made it somewhat explosive in a way that grainy footage of a histrionic south american falling over was not.

I had no intention to wade in until this comment. Hooper has had his own poor behaviour issues as well pal (see Byron incident, and dealing with McKenzie fallout). We get that you don't like Quade and that's fine, but don't make some half arsed, inaccurate comparison just to feed your vendetta.
