The NFL option sounds a bit too much like the Grand Prix 7s to me. Lots of use of words such as 'we think, we hope'

I like the APRC option that is referenced in WCRs article. I think you've mentioned this one before. It appears these backers are interested in the grassroots as well as the pro level.

The difference with this one is that its a combined effort by both Premiership Rugby (the group that administers the Aviva Premiership) and the NFL itself. Plus, any move toward such a competition is conditional. They have to top at least 30,000 at the event in order for potential backers to look to get on board. Grand Prix was a start up with none of the same elements.

That said, I'd like both of these to get up. With the NFL concept to be based on the East Coast, APRC could look toward the rest of the USA. If the NFL backed concept proves successful then the APRC could provide an established set up for more owners to buy into. Alternatively, this concept could lead into the APRC getting up. My understanding is that they are both talking to very much the same groups.

They want to import the front row and the halves and then fill the other positions with former college football players who they will teach rugby to in 2-3 weeks. What. A. Fucking. Joke.

There's at least 100 elite-caliber college and men's club players not involved with the Eagles right now..shockingly enough they actually play rugby!

To top all of this off the Eagles have been trying to convert football players to rugby in short time windows for over a decade now AND IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK BECAUSE GRIDIRON IS NOTHING LIKE RUGBY AND ACTUALLY REINFORCES MANY HABITS WHICH ARE INCREDIBLY DETRIMENTAL ON A RUGBY FIELD.

Basketball, Soccer and even Wrestling cross-overs convert with a much higher success rate. I actually had a nice chat with Gary Nucifora last night about this. He experienced the same exact thing when he was coaching at Yale/in the states.

As long as these short-sighted idiots are the ones holding the cash rugby in the USA needs to really take off we are pretty much fucked.

The root of the problem is developing players at the age-grade level anyway. Luckily this is beginning to grow but it will be years before the results really start to show. But this fetish-like obsession with converting gridiron rejects to rugby has been historically proven to be stupid as well as an insult to all of the incredible athletes actually playing rugby at the highest level available in their country.

If any of you are in my 40 or so twitter followers you would have seen me ranting about this in 140-characters-or-less the other day.

Whatever they decide. They should make sure the National Rugby Union tournament isn't in force competition with the NFL. that means Sundays definately out & so to Is Monday & Thursday Night.

Actually Rugby would fit in well a season that starts in February & finishes sometime in Late July (Time for NFL training camps)

Make it on sync with the Super Rugby competition.

I know USARugger is ranting about trying to convert NFL Players to Rugby.. You'd be better served trying to convert NFL Fans to Rugby Afficanadeos. & the season can't be played in the NFL FALL!!!

I just wish the Worlds Evilest Media Mogul in Rupert Murdoch couldn't see how teams like Japan, Canada Argentina & USA couldn't feature in a seperate Super Rugby conference would be an absolute goldmine. The Traveling conditions of teams wouldn't be that much more difficult if you tweaked the usual 3 week tour of the republic would now be the 5 week tour (3 in Africa, 2 in the North Pacific) as your usual roadtrip away.

Also I believe there will be a big power struggle with the IRB & SANZAR in the next 5-10 years. Obviously both are aware about the sleeping Giant-ness of the USA & turning into a World Rugby superpower.

The fight for the USA in the Heineken Championship or as a Super Rugby franchise will be a North vs South, East vs West battle.

The basis of the plan would be that the competition would run during the NFL offseason . There would be no conflict.

USA is too big to get included in any existing comps. Domestic league is the best/only answer.

The promo is from 1998 when they first tried it. Have a tournament in August and looking at holding a series next year.

I wonder how the Wallabies would do in an NFL game ?
Probably all be killed.... .

are they just as padded? If so, then don't see harm.

try it the other way tho, they play a hard game without pads. They might be rolling around like soccer players..
