Preaching to the converted. RWC impact on the Non Converted

Here in Jarseland, nearly every second of every game has been watched, discussed, and watched again along with the rest of old games on the Rugby Channel Fox sports 3 either live or recorded on IQ.

With the Junior Jarses playing, La Jarse and self, coaching, refereeing, administrating, cooking BBQ for canteen, watching and taxi driving for training and games, too much of Heaven's game is not enough.

The RWC has been awesome, but we don't have too many non rugby acquaintances, so for us it is hard to judge the impact of the cup on the non believers.

While fellow Gaggerlanders are probably not a very representative sample, we do have some netizens in other non rugby countries, that may also want to comment on how effective the RWC has been in "growing" the game.

Have I said how much we are loving RWC?

It is being discussed but there's no suggestion the AFL and NRL die hards are any more interested in union now than they ever were.
Mind you I have heard no mention of this from anyone, including the media: http://www.australianrugbyleague.com.au/news/article.php?id=1447

Really good question Huw but it's really difficult to judge. Sorry to say this but it is a question that will only be answered if you lose to the darkness. Most people at work or in the pub care if australia are 1) playing 2) winning. Even at work, where we have a team in subbies, all but very few are not interested in RWC, just the Australian participation. don't think this is the breakthrough that ARU want -unless you win.

But will Wrexham embrace the Red Dragon??

There seems to be more coverage of the Wallabies this week in the commercial TV network news. Whether this continues depends on how the Wallabies go this weekend. It also helps that the NRL and AFL have finished their seasons so they need to fill their minutes.

Different over there mun. tribalism much worse. West distrusts North hates south, cardiff hates Swansea hates Newport. english speakers hate welsh speakers. two things unite us. welsh team (at least until the match starts) and hatred of orcs. Once sat at a welsh game next to someone who said just one thing through the whole thing 'Neath, Neath Neath....... gotta love it. So, if Wales lose, Wrecsam will still be Wrecsam and still part of wales and it will still be the national sport

Yep.

That's kinda what I meant.

My original comment was in jest btw.

I realise the divisions within Wales, and varying support for soccer and rugby between north and south, north east and south west etc.

I used to go heavy drinking with a couple of Irish boys, a Scot from Aberdeen and and a Welshmen. Even though one of the Orish lads was from Munster he wasn't into rugby, and the Welsh lad preferred Glamorgan cricket and the Swans!!

The Scot just preferred LSD.

I REALLY hate Swansea

BTW, just saw the IRB rankings on Gwlad.

1(1) NEW ZEALAND 90.62
2(3) AUSTRALIA 87.21
3(2) SOUTH AFRICA 84.34
4(6) WALES 83.21
5(8) FRANCE 82.68
6(4) ENGLAND 81.58
7(5) IRELAND 80.65
8(7) ARGENTINA 80.28
9(9) TONGA 76.63
10(10)SCOTLAND 76.20

Nice to look at, but the doubling of pts exchanges during the RWC is too extreme. Throws out some weird shifts in the table.
Tonga are not the 9th best team in the world.

For instance if we win we go above South Africa to 3rd even if we haven't beaten them (even if we did score more points).

Yeah that Tongan one is a load of crap. They don't take into account France threw the game. You can't say Tonga is better than Italy, Scotland or Samoa.

I have no qualms about the Welsh being ranked higher than the saffas and new zealand (as long as it's below us)

Haha. Love the inter-Wales rivalry between Cardiff and Swansea FC.

Whilst Tonga may not deserve to be ninth in the world over an extended period of time I like the double points for victories within the RWC.

Ninth for Tonga is about right to mind. Along with Scotland, Italy and Samoa, they were the next closest team to make the final 8 so good on them.

Ah qwerty, the old We'll-throw-this-game-in order-that-the-world-thinks-we're-a-bunch-of pricks-just-like-the-soccer-team theory. But apart from that you are right. Tonga's rating is anomalous. And why am I crapping myself about the frogs tomorrow if we are really better them?

i was more thinking, we beat the kiwi's, you beat the frogs, we beat you and incase ur still not above the ABs then they lose to the french to come 4th...

Nah, Wales to win through a Gorgeous George North try in extra-time, cementing his place in Welsh folklore.

Maybe. Or just a Hook drop!!
