I'm keen. Mrs the Aussie isn't. Plus he'd have to play for someone other than the Renegades which is just not on.
My young fella is seven and is also playing soccer this year. He had played four season of tackle rugby now but wanted a change. Im abit dirty about it but but needs to put on a few more kegs before he can be really competitive at rugby, so soccer will be good for him. One of the dads of another boy in my sons team used to play first grade rugby against me for about a decade. We both never thought wee would see the day when our kids were kicking a round ball!
Yep as long as they do sport. If you force them into rugby they'll easilier get a hate for the sport. Mine was getting tennis classes from age 3. They had to stop the classes at times for him to suck his dummy a bit and then carry on. He just came to me one day and say he dont want to play tennis anymore and havent touch a racket since. As a three year old he could hit 7 out of 10 balls back over the net and his tennis coach told me she have never saw this kind of talent in her life. Cars passing by would stop and taking photos of him.

for anyone that isnt playing this year, hornsby has a chronic shortage of front rowers in all positions and as i only have the energy to last for half of fours i thought i would ask if there is anyone out there who would like a game or if you know anyone just drop by www.hornsbyrugby.com.au and sign up, 200 bucks rego and insurance and next home game at waitara oval on the 18th.

Dropped in on the last few minutes of the reschuled Oakhill v Liverpool game yesterday, and the results speak for themselves:

Second Grade: Oakhill 31 - 10 Liverpool
First Grade: Liverpool 38 - 0 (zip, nada, nil) Oakhill

Now, either Oakhill only showed up with 1.5 teams and blew their wad in the first game, or they're stacking their 2nds in order to try and defend their Noice Cup win of last year. Neither would surprise me, but I find the latter more likely because its in their nature.

I can't understand 2nd grade stacking. That is so pissweak. And who would want to play for their 1sts? Are they all hoping they'll play well enough to get a run in 2nds? Softcocks.

Yeah pretty much. The usual sledge when playing Oaks 1sts is "Keep playing like that and you might get promoted to Seconds!"

They will, of course, claim that they're the ones with a Second Grade title for 2008. I will, of course, claim that their First Grade finished DEAD LAST in 2008, though really they should have finished second last except all the points they got docked for their shocking discipline.

Broer those teams sound like Pommy Poofball teams. :nta:

Happen a lot in my days, the seconds stronger then the first. Happen usually when a coach picking fancy names for the first team and the seccies playing with the lot doing the hard yards for the club. The seccies usually tend to have a much better spirit to the fancy first team lot in my days who have big heads but no drinking manners.

Noddy - you heard anything about Golden Oldies this year?

Yeah...apparently Waverly will be doing something a little similar, not on purpose though. Supposedly their 1sts and 2nds have had a lot of players decide they don't want to put in the effort any more, and as a group chose to run around "for fun" in 4th grade - they will be the strongest 4th grade in 2nd div. For example, the team will probably include the 5/8 who has been the Subbies rep 5/8 for the last few years...if nothing changes, their 4th grade is liable to be stronger than their 1sts.

In the past we have had a bit of a problem with that. For the last few years ours 3's have been led by a bloke who sees training as optional and if it is on, only involves a long game of touch and a quick bit of contact work. However because you dont need to be at training to get a game you get alot of very handy footballers that just cant commit. As a result they have made the grand final every year since I joined the club in 2004.

The same will probably happen this year with our 1's and 2's now being required to train twice a week.

Did anyone see the Subbies vs Country game?

Just heard that our Seconds got thrashed by St George 30-odd to 3. Presently our Firsts lead 26-14. Shame I couldn't make it today but yesterday some COMPLETE FUCKWIT in our financial area COMPLETELY FUCKED ME and a few blokes on our team by not providing the right functionality to one of our Kiwi stores. I started at 9AM Friday and finished 6.30AM this morning. And the fucking fluffybunny didn't even have the nerve to stick his hand up and accept responsibility. Needs a good glassing...

Had half a game in seconds today playing lock which was good. Coach took me off at half time and said I needed to work on my fitness a bit more (I told him I had none to begin with before the game started). We got hammered (firsts did as well) as we were a thrown together team of whoever turned up. I am hoping I can get a 9-5 day job so I can attend training as it is very hard to train when I am getting up at 4am. I had fun though.

Sharpen the sprigs & invite the Renegades to the office for rucking practice ?

That's classic IT - sales screw things up and the techies have to turn water into wine.

We: "So why isn't the financial package upgraded?"
They: "Because the spec didn't cover New Zealand."
We: "Really? Because under section 2.1 Inclusions it specifically states all regions"
They: " ... "

Well the Jane McGrath Foundation day was a huge success, except we cant find anyone to play our 2nds, the zone wont let them fill the vacancy in the first grade comp like they did last year, apparently the other clubs are a bit scared of losing points.Softcocks if you ask me.

Back to the day..... We played our local derby game against Broulee and totally dominated the game from the kick off. We finally started to play structured rugby and players learnt not to be so selfish. Our forwards worked in little pods and the backline attacked the midfield before moving the ball wide.It was only as the score mounted that we fell into our old habits of one out stuff. We also started the 2nd half a bit slow.

A grand victory for the Batemans Bay Boars to the tune of 62-5, very pleasing as we can improve even more and have a few players to come back in the side.

The aftermatch dinner was attended by 160 people and guest speakers wewre Marlene Mathews(olympic sprinter ), her husband John Patrick Oshea( the Former Welsh captain and Lions player) he had some pretty good tales to tell, and the great Stephen Larkham who will probably have RSI after the 100's of signatures he did over the day and night.
Hope to make this an annual event.

Nice one Boarman. Thats a good turn out and a good result.

We had our ladies day yesterday at High's oval in Centennial Park. Not very clever given the races, swans and tahs were all on in the area but we only get access to the ground during school holidays. We still managed to have a fair turn out and a decent day of results led into a very big night.

5ths, 4ths and 3rds all had good wins, 2nds had a 5 all draw and the 1s went down by 12 in a game that saw 80 points scored. The colties also went down as they were clearly distracted by all the young ladies they had brought along.

I have managed to weasle my way into playing 10 and scored the longest range try of my life off an intercept. I was wearing a pair of white boots for the first time which obviously tricked the oppo into thinking I must be quick and only one person chased.

Whats the hardest thing about wearing white boots? Telling your parents you are gay, although they are Palu's old boots.

:nta: I would have thought it was your parents telling YOU that you're gay.

:nta: But if your parents dont know you are wearing them then how would they know??

My one makes more sense. Normally its rollarblades but works for white boots as well.

Yeah the shame of your parents seeing you in them before you've come out of the closet I meant.

Training tonight in rain that varied between "driving" and "gentle" = nice wet pitch. Mostly fitness work which reminded me just how out of shape I am, but the team run on Thursday should provide a bit of decent Firsts v Seconds competition.

Our game has been moved from Saturday to Friday night out of respect for the diggers, and the venue switched to Chatswood which is good because I don't reckon the council will open our ground in this weather. Weak pricks - that soil needs aerating...

Thursday training was good, and teams announced - despite missing last week's humiliating loss to St George (27-3) I was reinstated to starting prop for Seconds to alleviate some of the set piece woes. The 145kg lad who I was propping with wanted loosehead so I obliged. Been a while since I played THP and I found it hard. When 145kg lad popped his shoulder, I switched to loosehead, and everything fell into place.

However, I had to get the ref to pull them up on the call though - the opposition THP was not even doing a touch (which I didn't bother to mention) but the worst bit was them launching at "pause". They weren't threatening at all but that couple of extra seconds prevented me from dominating their feed until late in the half when we drove straight over them and rolled forward about 5m. That was gravy! I came off at halftime and went back on with 10 to go, but uncontested at that point which was a shame.

Game itself: Chatswood came out at 100 miles an hour and put the first try down within 5 minutes. From that point we actually got our hands on the ball and started hitting it up one-out. The offload game was killing them and we were up about 26-7 at halftime having nabbed the bonus point not long before halftime. After the half we copped a few injuries and the subs (who weren't all at training) weren't as focussed. And we didn't have a decent reserve halfback though the fill-in (one of our props) did a good job. Chatswood finished stronger and it finished 38-17. Good result for us but we're up against Liverpool next week who will in no way be pushovers.

First Grade won 74-3 after conceding the first points. It was about 6 tries to nil at halftime, and the lights went out right on 9.30 as the final whistle went which made cleaning up the ground extra fun!
