"8 Richard Brown - 7/10 good game beat defenders in close, tackled well"

minus 3 points for giving away 3 stupid penalties. Had a couple of decent runs but thats fundemental. In my humble opinion, once again Dick proved he doesn't deserve a gold jersey.

Standouts:

Burgess
Slipper
Hodegson

Dissapointments:

Rocket
Dick

P.S. Chuter is a cheap c***

Barnes controlled and won a game in the wet in the NH. With a bunch of strangers against a side who play together and in these conditions every week. I'm impressed.

Shit Hot: Van, Simmons, Burgo, Slipper, Edmunds, Turner, Mumm, Twelvetrees (perhaps I was brainwashed by commentator)
Met Expectations: Barnes, Higgers, Hodgson, A Finger, Davies, McCabe
Shit: Dick Brown, S Ma'afu, FingerS, Hynes

Wasn't that the expectation of Brown anyway?

15 Peter Hynes - 6/10solid, played as expected, looked for space and kicked averagely
14 Rod Davies - 4/10 average, missed tackles, dropped the ball, got smashed in contact
13 Pat McCabe - 5/10 solid in defense, failed to beat a defender
12 Anthony Fainga'a - 5/10 solid in defense, failed to beat a defender
11 Lachie Turner - 6/10 had two chances, scored one try
10 Berrick Barnes - 7/10 solid, played as expected, he will play the numbers and is conservative, but he kept the play in their 22 wherever possible and closed out the game, missed too many penalties
9 Luke Burgess - 8/10 solid busy, probably MOTM, the guy is a pest
8 Richard Brown - 7/10 good game beat defenders in close, tackled well
7 Matt Hodgson - 5/10 OK, missed tackles, bad hands
6 Scott Higginbotham - 4/10, pretty invisible, failed to take his chance
5 Rob Simmons - 7/10 Good game
4 Van Humphries - 7/10 ran the line out well and worked hard
3 Salesi Ma'afu - 6/10 solid scrummaging once they got their hit right
2 Huia Edmonds - 6/10 shame he gets his plaudits for doing stuff not linked to tight forward play
1 James Slipper - 7/10 good game, becoming a very solid individual

Mostly agree fp, although they seem a little higher than your usual standards!

I'd have to take a mark off both Ma'afu and Brown for the penalties they gave away, some of them were retarded...

I think this game mostly proved that the starting side is pretty much right at this stage - with some minor tweaks to required for the bench. I must say that I was quite impressed with Edmonds. He plays like those talented but fat 5/8s and centres you see in 3rd grade club rugby.

I think Hynes proved yet again how reliable he is.

Nothing wrong with putting a reliable player on for the last 20 minutes against England I say.

Reliable? Well that's Turner, and he's got more x-factor than Hynes imo

Brown must've been fucking atrocious to be seen as a disappointment in that game

I think Hynes is more than "reliable" he is one of the few players we have that has vision out there.

Turner is a worker, limited in part, but a bloody good player. He had two opportunities last night, scored from one and nearly scored by one he created by his pace. I would be happy with either on the bench.

But I also reckon Brown was pretty good last night and probably our most effective starting backrower. I was more disappointed with Hodgson who had a major opportunity to impress and didn't and Higgers - he was invisible for long patches

Oh gee, if this were a were a case of parochialism don't you think I would have highlighted more Reds players?

Barnes missed a opportunity to stamp his dominance and make a challenge for Giteau, I'm not saying he played badly, but it definitely was not a great controlled performance by any means. Likewise with Burgess, his running game might be effective in the last 20min against tiring defence, but not as effective in the first 20min.

Slipper was the only one who really belied reputation by proving his a effective scrummager even against fresh front rows

Barnes was Barnes, many dislike his conservative approach, but that is the way he plays.

He will direct a side around, try to make space for his runners and if nothing is on, will attempt to lock them in their 22.

I reckon he will do very very well in the NH after the RWC if he wants. His style suits close, hard fought matches of trench warfare
